The former tenement house, now an office building, is a typical example of eclectic Art Nouveau. The facade of the building is dominated by eclectic motifs, but the decorations richly use Art Nouveau ornamental motifs (masks, plant garlands, etc.)

De komende maanden staan weer in het teken van vakantie, en zodoende staan er dan ook een aantal leuke tripjes op de planning voor deze zomer.
Als 'voorafje' werd er een week afgereisd naar het onbekende Letland. Buiten andere verplichtingen aldaar was er uiteraard ook de tijd om te besteden aan de hobby, die daar in Letland toch nét wat interessanter is als hier.
Het Letse spoorwegbedrijf LDZ is alleenheerser op de Letse sporen. Het bedrijf beschikt over een relatief grote vloot ex-sovjet materieel. Net zoals in veel andere Oost-Europese landen wordt er veel geinvesteerd in het upgraden van de materieelvloot. Toch zijn er nog genoeg typische sovjet-treinen te vinden. Typisch voorbeeld hiervan zijn de bovenstaande twee treinen van de serie ER2.
Beide treinen komen uit dezelfde serie, toch zijn de uiterlijke verschillen duidelijk te zien. Dit kan kloppen, want de ER2-serie is geproduceerd van 1962 tot 1984 (!) Leuk detail is dat alle 850 treinen in Riga vervaardigd zijn.
De foto toont de ER2M-60501 en ER2T-711509 welke te Rīgas Pasažieru stacija (Riga Passagiersstation) staan te wachten om te vertrekken. De linker, de ER2M, mag als trein 6222 naar Aizkraukle vertrekken, terwijl de ER2T (rechts) de andere kant op vertrekt in de richting van Saukrasti mag vertrekken als trein 6140.

Riga Free Port (Latvian: Rīgas brīvosta) is a major port on the east coast of the Baltic Sea, located in Riga, the capital of Latvia. It stretched for 15 kilometers along both banks of the Daugava within the city limits, the area of the port is 1962 ha, water area - 6348 hectares. Navigation is carried out year-round. Most of the cargo turnover is made up of transit cargoes from and to CIS. The main objects of cargo handling are coal, oil products, timber, fertilizer and container cargoes. While the Ventspils Free Port and Liepaja Port specialize in export, a significant part of the activities of the Freeport of Riga is import. At the beginning of the 2000s, the goods arriving at the Riga port amounted to 70 percent of the incoming freight turnover of all the Latvian ports taken together.
In 2012, the Freeport of Riga took the 4th place in overall cargo turnover among the ports of the eastern Baltic (after Primorsk, St. Petersburg and Ust-Luga) and 3rd place in container freight turnover (after St. Petersburg and Klaipeda).
