Riga Motor Museum was founded in 1989.
It is located a few kilometers from Riga city center, houses the largest and most diverse collection of antique vehicles in the Baltic states and offers a truly interactive, fun and educating journey into the world of motors. The museum is considered as one of the most remarkable and most modern museums in Latvia, and a must see tourism attraction when visiting Riga.
Riga Motor Museum was opened after a large-scale reconstruction on the 2nd of July, 2016. The museum has gained broader and modernized exposition space, a comfortable and enjoyable environment for visitors, as well as accessibility for everyone. At the same time we have preserved the museum’s historical architecture and the specific Motor Museum’s atmosphere. The author of the reconstruction project is “Projektēšanas birojs ARHIS” Ltd. Reconstruction works are carried out by “Skonto būve” Ltd.
The new exposition tells fascinating stories about unique vehicles, renowned individuals and important milestones that helped to shape world’s automotive history. Visitors explore and engage with the story using modern and diverse multimedia and design features, as well as participate in several interactivities. The author of the design project is H2E Ltd.
The museum showcases more than a hundred unique antique vehicles and the collection is enriched with several significant acquisitions. The museum’s café, kids fun zone, hands-on exhibits, temporary exhibition hall, educational workshops and other entertaining events ensure a day well spent in the new Riga Motor Museum.
Right behind the tree - The building of the Brotherhood of Blackheads is one of the most iconic buildings of Old Riga (Vecrīga). The tallest building is St. Peter's Church is a Lutheran church in Riga.
In June 2010, the Spruce Summer Garden Festival was held in Riga. The festival was dedicated to the 500th anniversary of the Christian tradition of installing a decorated Christmas tree.
Variously decorated Christmas trees were installed in four districts of the Old Riga. They stood until the beginning of New 2011.

Riga was founded in 1201 and is a former Hanseatic League member. Riga's historical centre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, noted for its Art Nouveau/Jugendstil architecture and 19th century wooden architecture.Riga was the European Capital of Culture in 2014, along with Umeå in Sweden. Riga hosted the 2006 NATO Summit, the Eurovision Song Contest 2003, the 2006 IIHF Men's World Ice Hockey Championships, 2013 World Women's Curling Championship and the 2021 IIHF World Championship. It is home to the European Union's office of European Regulators for Electronic Communications (BEREC). In 2017, it was named the European Region of Gastronomy.
In 2016, Riga received over 1.4 million visitors.The city is served by Riga International Airport, the largest and busiest airport in the Baltic states. Riga is a member of Eurocities,[the Union of the Baltic Cities (UBC) and Union of Capitals of the European Union (UCEU).
Von den fünf die Düna überspannenden Brücken in Riga ist die 625 Meter lange Vanšu-Brücke die dominanteste und auch imposanteste. Die im zeitgeistigen Stil des Brutalismus errichtete Brücke war zum Zeitpunkt ihrer Eröffnung 1981 die längste Schrägseilbrücke Europas. Weithin sichtbar ist der 109 Meter in die Höhe ragende Pylon, an dem die Spannseile befestigt sind.
Während der sowjetischen Zeit Gorki-Brücke genannt, trägt sie heute den Namen Vanšu-Brücke, der schlicht und einfach Kabelbrücke bedeutet. Eigentlich sollte sie längst saniert sein, doch noch im Jahr 2019 verspüht sie den morbiden Charme ihrer Entstehungszeit.
[NL] In 2022 vierde InterRail het 50-jarig bestaan. Dat werd gevierd met een kortingsactie: 50% korting op maandpassen. In een impulsieve bui besloot ik ook een pas te kopen. Deze gebruikte ik hoofdzakelijk voor mijn enkele reis naar Estland. Op de 6e dag van mijn reis naar Estland had ik een rustdag in de hoofdstad van Letland: Riga. Deze dag gebruikte ik om onder andere het Letse spoorwegmuseum te bezoeken. ’s Avonds maakte ik nog een wandeling en maakte daarbij wat foto’s, onder meer van het passerend treinverkeer op de brug over de Westelijke Dvina.
Het passagiersvervoer per spoor is in Letland niet bijzonder divers. Ten tijde van opname waren de enige raampjestreinen die van Pasažieru Vilciens. In 2022 bestond het materieelpark louter uit oude Sovjetproducties, maar anno 2024 zijn de eerste Škoda 16Ev-treinstellen ook ingestroomd. Op de foto zien we echter een zesdelige ER2T, eentje met de oude kopvorm, onderweg naar eindbestemming Riga, op de avond van 26 augustus 2022. Verder zien we op de achtergrond van links naar rechts de werkzaamheden aan het station van Riga, dat wordt voorbereid op Rail Baltica, de markthallen van Riga en de Letse Wetenschapsacademie.
[EN] In 2022, I made an Interrail trip towards the Baltic States. On day 6, I had the entire day to spend in Riga. After dinner, I made a walk towards the other side of the Western Dvin/Daugava. The sole passenger operator in Latvia, Pasažieru Vilciens, uses USSR rolling stock only, back in 2022. Now, in 2024, the first Škoda 16Ev EMU’s are in service. The photo shows an unknown ER2T EMU approaching its final call, Riga Main Station, on the evening of August 26, 2022.
[DE] Im Jahr 2022 habe ich eine Reise mit Interrail gemacht. Am 6. Tag war ich in Riga. Nach dem Abendessen machte ich eine Spazierrunde entlang des Dünas (Daugava). Ein Abendbild bei der Eisenbahnbrücke war natürlich eine Pflicht. Ein unbekannter sechsteiliger ER2T-Triebzug, mit Ziel Riga Hbf, überquerte die Düna am Abend des 26. August.

Exhibition “United Buddy Bears Riga 2018”, Dome Square.
During Riga City Festival in Dome Square everyone was able to greet the 149 United Buddy Bears that were there until August 22nd, 2018. It was their first visit to the Baltic States and was a gift from Germany to the people of Latvia for the country’s centenary.
“United Buddy Bears” are symbols of tolerance and understanding between nations. With this motto the 2 m high bears from Berlin travel around the world and since 2002, when they were first displayed in Berlin, they have been welcomed with enthusiasm by approximately 40 million exhibition visitors in 30 cities on all the continents of the world. Each of the 143 bear figures symbolizing countries has been painted by a popular artist from the corresponding country.
The special mission of the “United Buddy Bears” is to help children in need, so in Riga “United Buddy Bears” in conjunction with the Children's Hospital Fund raised donations for the little patients for whose treatment there is inadequate public funding.
