31 recipes in 31 days. How glad are we that a copy of Vegan Vittles is being shipped to us this very moment? Really glad. I picked out this recipe from the library copy of Vegan Vittles ages ago, and Jess typed it into the ingenius recipe wiki she started for us to organize and save recipes. The job looked a little daunting as we split up the tasks for making the ribs. I made the seitan and she made the barbecue sauce.

 

I finished the seitan so quickly I couldn't believe it. I stared at the leftover oil in the pan and thought about the energy we were going to use baking them in the oven for 90 minutes and decided on the spot to mix up a second batch of dough with some experimental adaptations. The second batch got baked up with just Stubbs straight from the bottle.

 

To round out the meal we had corn and chipotle mashed potatoes. Levi bitched about me ruining the mashed potatoes up until I shoved a spoonful in his mouth. Then we sat down to eat and as I took photos the two of them practically made obscene noises they were enjoying the meal so much. Levi declared it the first meal he was going to give a full 5 stars. You have no idea how carefully he rates meals. It is like having a mini Tom Calicchio sit down to dinner, only he has Stacy Peralta hair.

 

Both versions of the ribs were five star quality in different ways. I will never eat a Gardenburger Riblet again.

My grandparents on my dad's side. These are zone plates, (details) of the two oil portraits my dad did of his parents.

Oddly, the servers didn't seem to speak Cantonese and would answer me in English or Mandarin. Best dish was the tofu skin rolls. Pork riblets with black bean sauce didn't have enough time on the fire to be tender.
