Always a solid ALCo pair and a very useful train for heading south out of Delhi, sadly it went over to Bhagat Ki Kothi WDP4 operation around 2008. 17316 was withdrawn as 'overaged' in October 2011, 16840 has subsequently been rebuilt as a WDM3A.

WP 7161 is a Chittranjan Locomotive Works (CLW) built engine, inducted into active service in 1965, this locomotive was homed at Saharanpur Shed and gave distinguished service to IR before being phased out from active service. This Locomotive is christened “AKBAR”, after the great Mughal Emperor.
YDM4 #6644 departs Kund on 18th November 2007 with train 164 08h00 Madar - Rewari Passenger. Yes, this was taken whilst riding on the roof. Speed increased to 75kmh between stops. The worst bit was arriving into Rewari, where a huge asbestos platform canopy slightly overhang the coaches! We had to shift rapidly to dodge that particular obstruction!

WL 15005 (Sher-E-Punjab) At Delhi Cantt. Station.
It was on 3rd October 2007, there was a fatal accident when a boiler tube failed on WL 15005 while it was hauling the Palace on Wheels, two footplate crew died as a result of their injuries incurred while bringing the train to a halt. It has been languishing for years in the dungeon as it had been sealed as a case property by the police. Thanks to Vikas Arya, who brought it back to life once again. He filed an application in the honourable court in Feb'10 stating that the locomotive was a National Heritage and the only such class of locomotive in India and if left unattended, a priceless piece if history will be lost. To our good fortunes, the learned judge in the very first hearing could gauge the significance of the matter and released the stay on the locomotive in April '10.
IZN WDP-4D #40137 led 14321 Bareilly - Bhuj Ala Hazrat Express overtakes Delhi - Rewari Passenger at Patli.
Indian Railways WDP-3A 15544 approaches its destination at Rewari Junction at the business end of the 07:05 DLI-RE Passenger 54085 from Delhi Junction. This Tughlakabad [TKD] locomotive was delivered from the IR Diesel Locomotive Works [DLW] in February 2001. The train's 82 km journey south via Gurgaon had included 16 intermediate stops and was scheduled to have taken 2 hours 40 minutes.

Indian Railways WDG-4 12221 eases a double stack Gateway Rail container train from Gujarat into Rewari Junction. The train was probably conveying imported goods that had arrived via the port of Mundra or Pipavav and the train had travelled via Phulera and Ringas Junction. The Gateway Rail service was heading for the company's ICD terminal at Garhi Harsaru near Gurgaon.
Update June 2020: With electrification of the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor [DFC] well underway, electric-hauled operation of these double stack container services on the Rewari-Madar section should commence shortly. The contact wire height has been set at 7.45 metres and the catenary height at 8.65 metres.

Blue-White Tughlakabad WDP3A Ready For Departure With Rewari-Shri Ganganagar Express !!
Tughlakabad WDP3A 15529 at Gurgaon with train 54412, the 06:45 Meerut Cantt. - Rewari Jn Passenger. Wednesday 21st March 2018.
Miraculously, for a Rewari line commuter (or any other train around Delhi for that matter), it was only about 20 minutes late. I doubled back on a WDP1 but it transpired I could have stayed on for a longer run with 15529 and had more than the pitiful 18 kilometres off the beast, with another WDP3A back into Delhi too. But I'd had my fingers burnt by a WDP4 on a stopper the previous day and was being cautious, or possibly a desperate ned!
WL-15005 Sher-e-Punjab: This locomotive hauled the last broad gauge steam train on the Indian Railways. This historic run was between Ferozepur to Jalandhar on the Northern Railway on the 6th of December 1995. This locomotive which mainly hauled Mail/Express trains & christened as "Sher-e-Punjab" was initially allotted to Southern Railway where it was based at the Shoranur shed. Subsequently it was transferred to the Northern Railway where it was based at Bhatinda shed, then Ludhiana shed at Ferozepur shed from where it finally retired. The 09:05 Rewari Junction to Phulera (RE-FL) Passenger 59720 via Ringas Junction commences its journey in the care of Abu Road's 16810R. The journey of 216 kms involves 26 intermediate stops and would take 5 hours 20 minutes. This former WDM-2 locomotive was rebuilt at DLMW Patiala in May 2016.

Indian Railways WDG-4 12412 was providing the 4500hp of 'grunt' at the business end of this lengthy train of washed coal being transported in sheeted BOXN-HL open box wagons recorded just to the north east of Ringas Junction station in Rajasthan.
This BG cross-country route from Phulera via Ringas to Rewari was converted from Metre Gauge not long ago and in the days of MG operations, there was a level crossing [L.C. 105] at this location. Only the abandoned crossing keeper's building was still in situ, a single track underpass now being provided beneath the BG line at this point.

All was not well with it and the load on the engine violently and somewhat randomly surged - entertaining and quite enjoyable. Lucknow machines generally have a poor reputation amongst us ALCo fascists and this met with the low performance expectations!
I'd made tentative efforts at getting this little branch in for a number of years without success, wish I'd done it in the Metre Gauge days when I had the chance. It made a pleasant rural respite from the rancidity of the Rewari - Delhi line commuters of overcrowding, frustrating delays and the rank lineside suburbs of filth. The train was 90 minutes late in, 65 late out and then sat for an hour outside the junction station of Garhi Harsaru. I'd like to say inexplicably sat but it is sooo easily explained by apparent feckles insouciance; just one Passenger and one small freight were allowed to pass.
Today is a special day for me as my all-time Flickr stats broke one and half million views. Now there is no grand prize for breaking 1.5 million views, but there is still a sense of personal accomplishment in the fact that the people took some time out of their busy lives to check out something I created.

Dayaram (left) and Rewari Bai belong to the primitive tribal group (PTG) and residents of Jagatpur village in Chhattisgarh, India. In the forest, Dayaram and Rewari Bai along with other traditional forest dwellers, collects and gathers firewood, Mahuwa, Tendu leaf, Mushroom, and dry Shaal-flowers /seeds. While the dry wood comes in as a handy resource in cooking, Mahuwa, Tendu leaf, Shaal seed/flowers fetch their much needed money to meet some of the basic needs. I had made some profile of these people while working on an assignment to capture the forest rights campaign supported by PACS-DFID (www.pacsindia.org/about-us/dfid-india).

The Rabari Herdsman take the last pose during leading his cattle move to another region through arid, dusty country in Kutch, Gujarat.
The Rabari are one of the largest tribes and arguably the most wandering people living across the barren desert in Gujarat and Rajasthan.
Members of the Rabari or Rewari live throughout the Rajasthan, and Gujarat, states in India. There are many other Rabari families who also live in Pakistan, especially in the region of Sindh. Rabaris are also known by other names such as Desai, Dewasi, Hiravanshi, Rebari, Rebadi, and Rayka or Raika.

What I suspect really will be my last ever WDM3A journey in India: Ludihana based WDM3A 16305 stands at Bathinda with train 54782 Rewari to Bathinda passenger on 13th March 2025. Another train had just arrived on the adjacent platform and passengers were in a real hurry to catch connections, dispensing with trivial amenities like footbridges to change platforms!
Something that I thought I’d never see - an Indian Railways track worker in hi-vis! Meanwhile, countrywide the general population crosses the railway line millions of times a day! Rewari, 15th December 2024.

Driving on the national highway, I got down to click this large herd of cattle who had the most majestic horns. As it turned out, their herdsman made a much more interesting subject. Loved his traditional attire, cool attitude and warm smile.
