The embarrassing amount of empty Big Spoon nut butter jars we had came in handy when I had to pickle some okra. But now we're almost out of half-pint jars. Guess I'll have to get some more...

I love how my Mom reuses things to make garden stuff. This is a dustpan she made out of a broken handle and old tin cracker box.

Here's the whole dustpan.

I've all-but banished the regular plastic grocery bag from my life. I've got an ever-growing collection of canvas bags that I use to haul groceries, and I've even gotten to the point where it's automatic to take them to the store, but for the longest time I've been trying to find a solution to bringing home more fruit and vegetable bags from the produce section. Over the holiday break I finally found reusable bags designed for fruits and vegies! They're super-light so you don't end up paying tons more for your produce, and they're mesh, so the checker can easily see what's in the bag.

Although the subject matter is serious, some of the designs sayings are funny, clever, witty, humorous and sometimes irreverent - also available as magnets, zipper pulls and keychains.

It was in a storehouse wall that the dismantled altar was reused, and where I saw it.

Jacqueline Schaajje:

David also built a town. At the end of the 10th century it was destroyed, probably in the invasion of Israel by the Egyptian pharaoh Shishak in 925 BCE. In his temple in Karkak, Egypt, Be'er Sheva is mentioned as a conquered town by the name of Fort Abram.

From the 9th century BCE, Be'er Sheva was rebuilt and became prosperous. Its inhabitants practiced a heathen cult. One find, now in the Israel Museum in Jerusalem, is of a great horned altar which is made of hewn stones. This is contrary to the Biblical law which says that altars should be made of uncut stones (Deut. 27:5 and Joshua 8:3). The prophet Amos mentions Be'er Sheva in regard to idolatry (Amos 5:5 and 8:14). Probably during the religious reform of King Hezekiah the altar was destroyed and its stones were re-used (II Kings 18:4).

It's pretty simple really, The ReUse Project is about finding multiple uses for things and throwing nothing away that doesn't have to be. ReUsing is kind of like Recycling, only we arent geting rid of things, we are finding new uses for them.

Here are a few examples of how you might ReUse...

Example 1:

I was walking down the street the other day when i found ________ in the trash. I decided to take ________ home and turned it into _________.

Example 2:

I had _______ sitting in my closet for the last million years and I finally did something with it.

Example 3:

I got _________ for my birthday this year, and i really didnt like it, so i cut it up and turned it into _______.

There are many ways to ReUse.

This was made from a pair of overalls that my husband didn't really like. I liked the look of the pockets, plus I thought they would be useful for the bag, so I kept them. I handsewn the whole bag. I used cross stitch floss as it is sturdier then regular thread. I kept the rugged or raw edges of the bag and of the handle to keep with an authentic jean look. Once it is washed once the edges will fray nicely. I think I am going to give this away as a profile surprise or as an extra for a swapbot partner. It is nice and roomy, with a nice long handle. It would be very handy to carry around a project-in-the-works.
