On our way to Germany for our Rhine Cruise, we stopped off in London for a night. We'd been told by a friend that the area between Kings Cross and St. Pancras has been re-developed and as we were staying near the latter, we thought we'd go take a look-see. The area has been named Coal Drops Yard/Pancras Square and is former derelict railway land, presumably used to store coal and other goods that had come into London by railway. To say we were amazed by it, is an understatement. I just loved the way the moden architects had added-to and transformed the existing railway buildings, including the roof between what were formerly two separate coal drops. Also the overall development is superb, with lovely shops, bars, restaurants and a concert space. We actually saw a concert on the evening we were there and it was great to watch a band in these surroundings. Sadly, on that evening, there'd been rain showers, so the photos I took of the area weren't in sun. Still, very much worth experiencing though.

The W57 tetrahedron building at 625 West 57th Street, designed by Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG), offers 709 residential rental units and 45,000 square feet of commercial retail space (scheduled to open in early 2016)

It seems like this little retail space in Bay Village has been empty and locked up for years.

This is one of the neon installations at 2 Pancras Square next to St Pancras station. A temporary pop art display in the vacant retail outlets while they seek tennants. Certainly a lot more interesting than viewing empty rooms.

A view of the retail are of the Harper Street redevelopment wher the old terraced housing opposite Middleport Pottery on the corner of Harper Street and Port Street in Middleport, Stoke-on-Trent.

I spent a pleasurable time talking to one of the ladies from Gilders Wheel Gallery, a group of four ex gilders from the old Royal Doulton pottery works, and walked away with a rather nice, Autumnal themed, framed print, a gift for my daughter.

Please see the description for the associated shot "The other side of what's become of the Potteries" for more information.

The mill was built in 1851 by Jacob Snyder, the village's namesake. Its water-powered turbine provided electricity not only for the mill but for all of St. Jacobs. In 1981, the mill was turned into retail space, housing craft shops, galleries, and a museum.

The construction on a mid-rise seven-story luxury apartment complex on two blocks overlooking Minute Maid Park is the latest in the flurry of housing activity in downtown Houston.

One of those blocks was the location of the Ben Milam Hotel, which was demolished two years ago. The apartment building at 500 Crawford is expected to have 400 units. The design will mirror the style of the Astros' home, with a stone, stucco and decorative iron exterior, and the units will be noise-free.

The apartment high-rise, dubbed Block 52, will include a 589-space private parking garage situated above the retail space and below the residential units, as well as two floors of amenities, including a resort-style, rooftop pool.

Sunday was a dull day at this parade of shops, which was imaged for my Dull Places Set here on Flickr.

Dull Places is about places that we move though without taking account of our surroundings.
