Peripheral Response is a responsive installation, which responds to the presence of the viewer by articulating robotically through tapping the floor. The installation is based in an exploration of an epidermal space, where information skips through biological systems metamorphosing through chemical, electrical, and mechanical articulations. The objects within the installation are inspired by scientific drawings of the sensory receptors in the skin, located in the Peripheral Nervous System, and are dispersed through out the room. As the viewer moves about the space, the objects individually and collectively begin to articulate and respond to the viewer’s location, using both sonar and infrared.
