On Wednesday, the 23rd, Reach Fellowship International hosted the First Inaugural Gender-Responsive Conference within the Contra Costa region.
More than 80 people attended and over 10 political delegates were represented: such as, Supervisor John Gioia (who also presented on the topic of "Where do we go from Here") & his staff ; the staff of Congressman Mark Desaunlier's office—Shanelle Scales; the staff of Senator Hancock’s office—Terri Waller; the staff of Assemblyman Tony Thurman—Abel Pineda; Richmond City Manager, Bill Lindsay; Richmond Mayor Tom; Richmond Councilwoman Gayle Mclaughlin; the staff of Chief Philip Kader--the Contra Costa Probation Department; the staff of Sheriff David Livingston--the Contra Costa Sheriff Department; and Berkeley City Councilman Kriss Worthington & his staff.

Responsive Textiles was created in relation to the idea that clothes are a second skin to the body, and therefore they should be as unique and human as we are. This is why designer and founder, Kristine Rodriguez, personally creates the fabric and structure of every garment by hand. Each piece is a product of labor, love and conceptual thought. As Rodriguez explains, “My priority is exploring a concept and telling its story through the knitted stitch. The garments that result are RESPONSIVE to this goal.” Her line of woven knits for women will be launching the S/S 2015 line on the runway at FWSD.
Building a responsive design is easy. Making it performant takes more time and care. The biggest performance challenges lie with media. For many organizations, these challenges will force them to retool the way they handle images and video. In this session, we’ll look at the options for how to handle responsive image and video. We’ll talk about guidelines for implementing responsive media in your organization as well as the one immutable rule for responsive images.

Awesomecross was an event that tested the correlation between the performance technology of the new BFGoodrich® g-Force™ Sport COMP-2™ and the amount of fun drivers have behind the wheel. The responsive course reacted to tire performance and driver mood and expressing the connection between the two in real-time.
Each Awesomecross vehicle housed small lights in its wheel wells; the lights glowed red, with varying intensity depending on the g-force that the driver was experiencing. The colors of the lights on the course also displayed g-force in real-time, with varying heights and degrees of red. It created some amazing photographic opportunities and challenges.

On 23 - 24 November 2022, UN Women hosted the regional conference on “Transformative financing as an accelerator for gender equality: drawing from gender responsive budgeting experiences and lessons learned”. The event brought together high-level government officials and practitioners from Ministries of Finances, line ministries, national gender mechanisms, local government representatives, Supreme Audit Institutions, civil society organizations and media, and provided a platform for exchange of experiences in the implementation of gender responsive budgeting.

it frustrates me how the homeless in central london are treated most of the time like they are invisible. i have witnessed this with my own eyes sitting next to a homeless person and seeing how humans treat the needing.

Philip Beesley and collaborators will construct a responsive forest of light within the new atrium that borders the south flank of the old Royal Conservatory of Music building. Curtain-like layers of vertical cables carrying chains of microprocessor-driven lights will stretch in a path within the space. Local sensors will be fitted into this aerial ‘textile,’ providing arrays of signalling that track the viewers walking through the atrium. Rippling patterns of softly glowing lights will stream out from the positions of individual viewers, producing waves of empathic motion organized much like water-borne waves that might emanate out from pebbles cast in a pond. Responses to multiple occupants will create complex inter-rippling patterns. The effect is suggestive of the Northern Lights, translated into a tangible interactive experience. This installation will attempt a visceral, wonder-inducing experience of the imprint of your own body within the space, sending out ripples and amplified within an ethereal cloud of light. The influence of multiple individual bodies will stretch above and around the viewers.
PBAI, under the direction of experimental architect Philip Beesley, creates kinetic environmental sculptures, transforming static spaces into dynamic responsive generative surfaces. These projects are a hybrid of sculpture, engineering, and architecture that include flexible structural meshwork densely populated with arrays of mechanisms that interact with viewers.
