On Wednesday, the 23rd, Reach Fellowship International hosted the First Inaugural Gender-Responsive Conference within the Contra Costa region.
More than 80 people attended and over 10 political delegates were represented: such as, Supervisor John Gioia (who also presented on the topic of "Where do we go from Here") & his staff ; the staff of Congressman Mark Desaunlier's office—Shanelle Scales; the staff of Senator Hancock’s office—Terri Waller; the staff of Assemblyman Tony Thurman—Abel Pineda; Richmond City Manager, Bill Lindsay; Richmond Mayor Tom; Richmond Councilwoman Gayle Mclaughlin; the staff of Chief Philip Kader--the Contra Costa Probation Department; the staff of Sheriff David Livingston--the Contra Costa Sheriff Department; and Berkeley City Councilman Kriss Worthington & his staff.
It was amazing and we have received such positive reviews.

Responsive Textiles was created in relation to the idea that clothes are a second skin to the body, and therefore they should be as unique and human as we are. This is why designer and founder, Kristine Rodriguez, personally creates the fabric and structure of every garment by hand. Each piece is a product of labor, love and conceptual thought. As Rodriguez explains, “My priority is exploring a concept and telling its story through the knitted stitch. The garments that result are RESPONSIVE to this goal.” Her line of woven knits for women will be launching the S/S 2015 line on the runway at FWSD.
Representatives from Malawi, Mozambique, Tanzania, Zambia and Zanzibar gathered in Dar es Salaam for 3 days to pilot the use of the GPE/UNGEI Guidance for developing gender-responsive education sector plans.

When we create for the web, we participate in a kind of public art. We code, we design, we build for an audience, shaping digital experiences that provide a service, or that create joy, or that simply connect readers with words written half a world away. But in this session we’ll revisit what we’ve learned about responsive design, and ensure our content, not just our design, is readily accessible to them wherever and whenever they are. In doing so, we’ll look at some ways in which our audience reshapes the way we think about our medium, and see where they might be leading us—and the web—next.
Building a responsive design is easy. Making it performant takes more time and care. The biggest performance challenges lie with media. For many organizations, these challenges will force them to retool the way they handle images and video. In this session, we’ll look at the options for how to handle responsive image and video. We’ll talk about guidelines for implementing responsive media in your organization as well as the one immutable rule for responsive images.

UNESCO, with the Center for Mathematics, Science and Technology Education in Africa (CEMASTEA), financial support from the Government of Japan, and in partnership with the Institut de la Francophonie pour l'Education et la Formation (IFEF), the International Center for Girls' and Women's Education in Africa of the African Union (AU/CIEFFA), the Forum for African Women Educationalists (FAWE) and Microsoft, is organizing a regional training of trainers for representatives from the Ministry of Education and teacher trainers on gender-responsive STEM education in order to engage, inspire and empower more girls and women to undertake STEM studies.
The training adopts a theory-to-practice approach, drawing on UNESCO’s Cracking the Code report, the US Mission to UNESCO’s TeachHer initiative, and other resources and programme experience. The modules explore the situation related to STEM education in Africa, gender-responsive STEM education, gender-responsive pedagogy, gender-responsive teaching resources, and ICT integration in STEM education. The methodologies employ a mixture of interactive pedagogy including guided group activities, role play, group-based problem-solving and field visits, to build on participants’ facilitation skills.
The training of trainers is currently taking place in Nairobi, Kenya (3-14 September 2018). The regional training will take place from 22-26 October with national teams of 6 to 8 people from 12 French-speaking African countries (Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Comores, Chad, Côte d'Ivoire, Democratic Republic of Congo, Djibouti, Madagascar, Mali, Niger, and Senegal). A dialogue session on “Gender-Responsive Journalism for Reporting on Gender-based Violence” was organized by UN Women in Cox’s Bazar with the participation of local journalists, change agents, guest from local women’s rights and gender equality organizations and representative from Ministry of Women and Children Affairs. The main objective of the session was to promote media’s engagement in the 16 days of activism campaign and to discuss and raise awareness with local journalists about ways to promote gender-responsive reporting and address Gender-based violence through the media.

On 23 - 24 November 2022, UN Women hosted the regional conference on “Transformative financing as an accelerator for gender equality: drawing from gender responsive budgeting experiences and lessons learned”. The event brought together high-level government officials and practitioners from Ministries of Finances, line ministries, national gender mechanisms, local government representatives, Supreme Audit Institutions, civil society organizations and media, and provided a platform for exchange of experiences in the implementation of gender responsive budgeting.
