Managed to photograph this female Goosander at Llandrindod Lake, Wales.
Obviously in distress with a can ring pull around it's bill and finding great difficulty in feeding.
Probably due to some irresponsible person not using litter bins or not taking their rubbish home with them.
Reported to the Radnor Bird Group, who are going to try to capture the bird and remove the obstruction. Latest I have heard from them is that they cannot locate it.
It saddens me to post something like this, but maybe, just maybe one day some people may think about the responsibilty of their actions.
Many thanks as always for your comments and faves.
Much appreciated
Der DGS 43155 von Köln Eifeltor nach Verona Q.E. wurde am 18. September 2019 von der Alpha Trains 193 552 gezogen. Bei Vogl konnte ich diese Leistung von TXLogistik am späten Nachmittag des 01. Freight train DGS 43155 from Cologne Eifeltor to Verona Q.E. was hauled by Alpha Trains 193 552. At Vogl I was able to take a picture of this service from TXLogistik in the late afternoon of 01 October 2019. The Vectron with its side lettering points out the sustainability and CO2 neutrality of the freight traffic on the rail.
Lesser Jacana Microparra capensis
This little guy (weighing only 40 grams – 1.5 oz) is the smallest member of the Jacana family, and is an uncommon resident in the Southern African region. It is found most abundantly in the Okavango Delta region, and therefore is a rare sighting for a location so far east of the Delta.
As is the case with the more common African Jacana, the female is somewhat larger than the male; but unlike their cousins they are monogamous and the hatching of eggs and raising of young is a shared responsibilty of both parents.

Tucked quietly away in Lower Wharfedale is the small yet historic village of Hebden. Designated as a conservation area by the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority since 2006, Hebden lies on ground where there has been settlements since at least the Bronze Age.
in the 19th century Hebden was known for the mining of lead and the remnants of the trade can still be seen on the hills around the area. Many of the cottages were built during this period for mine workers.
From 1889 to 1974 the village was historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire eventually transferring, folllowing Government reorganisation in 1974, to North Yorkshire County.
Note the West Riding bridge marker, WR, still remains in situ. It is not a boundary markers, but a marker to denote that responsibilty for maintenance and repair rested with the West Riding Council. At the time not all road bridges were the responsibilty of the highway authority.
Its a busy time of year on Exmoor in many ways, each year the owners gather in their free living Exmoor ponies and present the foals for inspection, here you see one of the Exmoor stallions having a quiet reassuring word with one of his foals during his inspection, he took his parental responsibilties seriously!!!

To be somewhat more political than usual I am struck by the lack of responsibility of all those involved in the RoboDebt scandal currently being investigated. As a public librarian I had a number of very distraught people coming into the library, really worried about how to pay off these assumed debts. While as far as I know none committed suicide it would not surprise me if some of the most vulnerable may have under that added pressure.
How there was no advice as to the legality of the scheme, no mathematical ability to understand what averaging means and little real testing (pilot scheme) to gauge the effect on individuals is beyond me. The responses of senior public servants and politicians is incredible in their lack of accountability.
The whole thing smacks of deliberately kicking the unlucky even further down. It is another example of how individuals have to be very careful and fight injustices.
It was always taken for granted that we would have clean air and clean water. We know better than that now. We need to be wise enough to preserve the air we breath and the water we drink. I drank this water in cupped hands. It was very cold and simply delicious. These joys come with the price of responsibilty and respect for the natural resourses.

Casa Bartoli is the best Art Nouveau building in Trieste. Built 1906 by Viennese architect Max Fabiani.
After the Second World War Trieste was contested by Italy and Yugoslavia. When military government of Trieste ended in 1947 it became the Free Territory of Trieste under the direct responsibilty of the UN Security Council. The Allied Military Government was supported by British and American troops. It ran Trieste until it was returned to Italy in 1954.
There is a group in Trieste who think that this was the time when the city was best managed, and would like to see a retun to independence.

He is now 18 yrs old and totally awesome! These birds can live to be 80 yrs old! Big responsibilty for an one who buys a bird. Both him and sydney another bird at the zoo are known as throw away birds. They were given to the zoo because the owners had no idea what they were getting themselves into
Linus was jealous when I was taking photos of Fynn with his Christmas bandana. After a while Fynn had pity with Linus and decided to lend him the precious bandana but not without telling him that wearing a Christmas bandana is a great responsibilty. Linus was very proud of his new accessory although red is probably not the best colour for him and the bandana is slightly too small for such a big cat.
NZ Pipit ( Anthus novaeseelandiae ) I visited my old home at Motu yesturday hoping to find a bird common there in the seventies.
After searching all day and the weather turning hot and contrasty my wife and I finally found a pair of Pipit sitting on the beautifully lichened fence posts along the old Motu road.
These birds have plummeted in numbers in the last twenty years , the main culprits being Pesticides and herbicides on farms and roadsides by local bodies and councils and thoughtless farmers...
The practice of herbiciding large areas to resow is harming these birds enormously...
I know I go on but its so important for people to take some responsibilty before it's too late..
I understand when some of the railway lines were first layed around NZ up to 100 Pipits would ride the pressure waves ahead of the lumbering steel giant enjoying the "wind surf"...today I find it difficult to find an individual.....
Anyway on a brighter note,

Sindel is the daughter of Cronus, the leader of the Elysian Fields (where all the great heroes of myth reside after death).
Best friend of Persephone (Queen of the underworld).
One day they were bored and tried to joke around with the Ferryman. He got furious and as result refused to let anyone pass to the underworld. Wich caused a lot of lost souls to be stuck in the void.
Persephone refused to take responsibilty and accused Sindel of doing everything alone, because she was just a bored little spoilt brat. Sindel got a punishment; she was banned to the earth to live amongst the living for an undecided amount of time.
We are responsible for ourselves.I knew this, but got my head below the water line more and more each day for the last years. What I am learning now also? That it is not what someone is doing to you or not doing for you?It is how you
react and deal with their mistakes or silence or even their good things. Stress coming from inwards to others outwards, makes their stress more intense. To love Oneself is essential and a BIG job, through diligent ascension and behavior , one can face their self, with JOYOUS clarity.

The LTL Arden was designed due to requests from the MoD and DoD regarding Less Lethal weapons.
The ARDEN is lightweight, adaptable and incredibly short.
ARDEN is able to fire an assortment of LTL rounds, most notably the Electroticker.
When fired it sends a small, yet incredibly powerful rubber pellet downrange, when it strikes home it sets off a small charge inside the pellet, causing a massive electrical shock. (Effects on subjects may vary depending on the subjects health. SIA takes no responsibilty for any misuse of this weapons system)

Without a doubt, my favorite subject is the child. Spontaneous, unguarded, dramatic, children let their spirits guide them. What a joy to be in the presence of unfurling emotion. With those little hands, and wide eyes, and lips that quiver or draw thin, children use their entire bodies to be.
But their faces, especially, inspire.

Dear Senator,
Judge Samuel Anthony Alito represents everything that is wrong with this country. His rulings and statements on human rights, corporate responsibilty and religious freedom are out of step with most of America and constitutional law. His approval as a supreme court justice could be the final straw in the total anihilation of democracy as written in our constitution and intended by it's authors. We are heading down a road of national embarassment which is the equivalent to the years of legal slavery preceding the civil war that we still have not come to terms with and that will take many generations years to undo.
First time, shame on them. Second time, shame on us.

Nyamata Mission Church. Rwanda.
10, 000 Rwandans were butchered at Nyamata Mission Church from April 14 to April 19. The 1994 genocide took the lives of an estimated 1,000,000 human beings. Massacres as early as 1992 happened at this church. I was escorted to this memorial by a taxi driver who told me, only after we were standing in the darkness, looking at skulls and bones, that his parents were here, somehwere. This genocide must be studied, and not forgotten.
"No matter how idealistic the aim sounds, this new century must become the Century of Humanity, when we as human beings rise above race, creed, colour, religion and national self-interest and put the good of humanity above the good of our own tribe. For the sake of the children and our future. Peux ce que veux. Allons-y."

I seem to have inherited Admin responsibilty for the group "A night in rollers and lingerie" so I thought it needed an appropriate picture for the header.
The Monahans Sandhills State Park turns golden in the late light of the northeastern Chihauhaun Desert in west Texas, a scenic break from the surrounding scrub and pumpjacks of the Permian Basin. I stayed until the light faded yesterday (9-5-2018), hiking the dunes that are home to coveys of quail, roadrunners, whitetail deer and a variety of fauna. Beetles left lengthy stretches of tracks and coyotes yipped their evening roll call as the sun sank to the horizon. Wind was already erasing evidence of my trek as I returned to the rental car and the clouds that had boiled up in the distance had begun to flicker and flash with an impending thunderstorm.
Monahans Sandhills State Park is well worth the visit if in the region. Be sure to take the time to visit the visitor center during the day, as well, for the rangers there were exceptionally helpful and informative.
On the subject of photography in Texas state parks: If you are shooting for commercial/resale purposes, a permit IS required. Drone use is also banned, just as in the national parks, for many drone owners are simply irresponsible, both from a safety standpoint and from a privacy standpoint. If you attempt to fly a long-range drone into park airspace, they WILL track it back to its pilot and file charges. The ranger even told me of one in the past week that had been flown down in the middle of a group of scouts while he was giving a talk. Drones and the quality of their images/video have both improved dramatically since the home-builds I recall seeing years ago but as their prices have fallen, so has the common sense and responsibilty level of those that are now flying these tools. In today's "whatever I can get away with" society, I haven't much sympathy for the loss of such drones or convictions for their irresponsible use just as I have zero sympathy for the feeding or harrassment of wildlife. My two cents-worth...

For Isabella. A week ago, Ruth Ann and I met granddaughter Isabella (now 39 months) and Carol at Maymont, one of Isabella's favorite places to go. There are animals of many sorts, the main reason it is a favorite destination for Isabella. After seeing bears, buffalo, a fox, an eagle, a falcon, goats, deer, and so on, however, she said her favorite was the peacock; she's been pretty consistent in that in the time she's been old enough to name a favorite. This time, the peacock was in the rafters of the children's farm barn; it surprised me that I got anything I could use, because of the dim light inside the barn. [1/60, f4, ISO 640, 70mm, no flash]
Although now in (and surrounded by) the city of Richmond, Maymont was the Victorian country estate of James and Sallie Dooley. On the National Register of Historic Places, it is considered a significant example of a Gilded Age country estate. It has been a public park for over 80 years.
James Henry Dooley served in the Civil War and later made his fortune in railroading. The Dooleys bought the 100 acre tract of rolling land on the north side of the James River in 1886, and Mrs. Dooley guided the creation of the grand estate. The property includes the 1893 stone mansion; several other substantial buildings, including stone barns; a large Japanese garden complete with a large pond; and an Italian garden that includes a waterfall. Mr. Dooley died in 1922 and his wife in 1925; having no children, Maymont was left to the city of Richmond to be used as a park. It opened to the public just six months after Mrs. Dooley's death. The private Maymont Foundation was established in 1975 to take over operations and upkeep responsibilties from the city; as no endowment was left by the Dooleys, a prime role of Maymont Foundation is fund raising (Maymont has no admission charge, but encourages donations).

How lucky are you?
Pretty sure there are people in the world who realize, truly realize, how lucky they are. I can imagine that there is a hidden tribe of people in the jungles of Borneo where 100% of the population are content and want for naught. Maybe they have little, need little and wake each day with joy for just being alive and a part of their humanity.
Problem is, here, in much of the rest of the world, our comprehension and insight is delivered to us by media. For the few who are lucky enough to travel abroad (and I am not referring to tour packages here), a deeper understanding of the bigger picture is more fact than 'television image'.
So, our Tribe of Contentment in the Borneo Jungles is mere fantasy...maybe true, maybe not.
Thus, for most of us, our only way to gauge "how lucky we are" is by what we experience in the reality of our daily lives. Man! How many times do I say, "God! I hate this fuckin' job!" or, " Is my teenaged son ever going to take some responsibilty?" or so many other trivial matters, each and every day.
But, you see, that approach, that kind of mindset is all wrong. We all know it. We all tell ourselves that we should focus on what we have and "how lucky we are". Sigh...sometimes, it is hard to maintain that focus.
How lucky are you?
Only as lucky as you want to be.
The first in a series...photos that is, not rants...phew!
Back to the art of fencing and the weatherproofing properties of paint. I got in closer for this patina shot. I liked the texture of the peeling paint under a steep sun on weathering wood at the abandoned feed lot. Some of the paint is actually sticking to the wood. I carefully wiped any Trump-19 from my camera after shooting this; did the virus singe this paint when I wasn't looking? This paint may or may not last the year; the wood, somewhat longer. It almost looks like this abandoned feed lot stretches out to the Rockies. As usual, I trekked out on the flats toward the Foothills for anything I may have missed by not thoroughly observing on previous passes. I even backtracked as I wandered. I found this detail shot and my trek became a bit of a release for me. Today is another crud day along the St. Vrain. Gotta do what I can while spring starts sprouting colors. I'll make another swing shortly on a better day.
As long as I found the abandoned feed lot, I decided to get detail shots I could as long as I saw no one around ready to give me a load of Don Corona Trumpandemic-19. At least two of the big Weld county slaughter houses are closed now due to serving up Trumedemic-19 to their workers instead of pork or beef. Our gov. had enough. I guess Smithfield plants are sending Trumporkolypse back to their owners in China. Here we go again, another round. Personally, as of today, we may be free of our last serious snow dumping, not so the Trumpocolypse. Boulder, CO set a new all-time snow fall record, and yet the gov. had to shut down the ski areas in the snow-laden Rockies to stop the spread of the orange contagion. Ever more Texans are doing the spreading, one Texan died in Park County. Texas is suing CO counties for shutting out non-residents. I thought Texas seceded?
I could no longer social distance at home last Saturday but decided that I probably had not contracted Donnievid-19. I never stopped and talked to anyone on my trek. I waited until Wednesday's senior moment at King Soaker's before shopping and will avoid shopping again until later in the week and practice my best dodge the virus moves; gov. ordered face masks for grocery workers for a period. I have not contracted Don Trump's corona by now, I must have dodged it one more time around. I have a couple of quarts of hydrogen peroxide horded for the duration of the Trumpandemic. The Germans horded TP, the Italians horded vino, the Frogs horded EU's condoms and the US horded mindless stupidity.
These corral fences ain't gonna keep that scurrilous Trumpvid-19 in nor out and sequestered to Pres. Agent Orange or even his FOX-Holer troops. His brain-damaged troops ought to be allowed to open the economy with a signed waiver of non-responsibilty for their subsequent causation of future dead. Let the courts finally open wide. I salute the efforts of us all for social distancing from the Trump Crime Family and it's ilk. I see no reason to coronate the Trump Crime Family instead of awarding them terms in prison. He already created his own entire corona-tion. Trump's and Jerod's daddies learned absolutely nothing in prison to pass on to their crime families. Maybe it's time for a return to the past and Trump-Jerod lockup? Admittedly, Trump is falling short of the million Boy George Bush slaughtered in useless conquest. I discovered the WHO - Trumpedemic problem; they failed to praise Trump the narciscist and cut him a check. He's having to rely on scamming the bailout funds for his filthy lucre.
What a president, after stealing 400 of the 500 ventilators Colorado was already buying is now pressing them into max use in FLA. I bet they will need them. What a peach... er orange. Indeed, summer is coming and we can all drink boiling water while contrails from Chinese aircraft dust us with Trump-19. Outstaters brought their virus to our ski areas but they are closed and we have already peaked due to a wise governor. Now we will have to ban the crime family and the Koch-owned Sen. Gardner from the state. We have a stable working governor instead of Agent Orange. I generally accost door to door thumpers or gift them with a bus tour to spring break in Mazatlan, Mexico and a cruise ship voyage back. Grifters all. Darwin requires his share and seems to be getting them.
This feedlot shot on my recent trek became a bit of release for me. We were just delivered another hammering of snow and another dud day. A cover of snow atop leftover corona will be our blow to the Trumpandemic virus. I've seen many things everywhere along my paths on display in the Rockies. My day stretched out nicely as I travel back and found other hits on rural routes on my way home and some captures I liked. I hookied over to Mac Lake for a look-see and little look-found. Even this day is stretching on. With so many snaps in my directories, pictures are everywhere if I break my safe home distancing.
