in the late afternoon we found this female Tiger walking on a sandy road while she was marking her territory ( Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve, Madhya Pradesh, India )
It is the same female as in the image in the first comment box.
After a while she lied down and started flehmening.
The Flehmen response (also called the Flehmen position, Flehmen reaction, flehming, or flehmening) is a behaviour whereby an animal curls back its upper lip exposing its front teeth, inhales with the nostrils usually closed and then often holds this position for several seconds.
It may be performed over a site or a substance of particular interest to the animal (e.g. urine or faeces) or may be performed with the neck stretched and the head held high in the air.
Flehmen is performed by a wide range of mammals including ungulates and felids.
The behaviour facilitates the transfer of pheromones and other scents into the vomeronasal organ located above the roof of the mouth via a duct which exits just behind the front teeth of the animal. ( Source: Wikipedia )

The National War Memorial (also known as The Response), is a tall granite cenotaph with acreted bronze sculptures, that stands in Confederation Square, Ottawa, and serves as the federal war memorial for Canada.
Originally built to commemorate the First World War, in 1982 it was rededicated to include the Second World War and the Korean War. In 2000, the Canadian Tomb of the Unknown Soldier was added to the memorial site and symbolizes the sacrifice made by every Canadian who has died or may yet die for their country.

I normally see this behavior in the fall during rut season. However, we saw it a couple of times during our last moose outing.
A male lion (panthera leo) exhibiting the Flehmen response. Whilst this may look like a threatening baring of teeth, the purpose of this action is to draw the scent of other lion's urine into the Jacobson's organ. This facilitates recognition of other pride members and/or a lioness in oestrous. Photographed in The Kalahari, in Botswana. This night storm had *a lot* of "upward" lightning or GCs (Ground-to-Cloud lightning). This one stems from a wind turbine which is on the peak of a mountain under the cloud layer. NW parts of Athens are also visible.

I was delighted to see this, my first female Black Redstart, perched on the buildings enclosing a cafe courtyard near the harbour front at Poole. In Britain a few pairs of Black Redstart nest on cliffs but most nest on buildings in towns and city locations as well as rural areas.

A rogue wave surprises me at Tungeneset Beach in Senja, Norway. I keep my eye on them but they still manage to get my feet wet sometimes. Just three weeks ago, but it seems almost forever.
Just before capturing this shot, the ocean was violently pounding the rocky outcrop with wave after wave. And, a few birds were flying about looking for a place too perch. When the waves suddenly subsided and colors began to appear, one bird found an ideal place to roost. Its response to what had been otherwise violent was quite measured. Now peering out at the ocean and it's less harsh nature, the birds demeanour appeared more calm toward the nature of its surroundings.
This Rock Pipit pauses briefly in its search for food amongst the seaweed and shells at Lepe. Seaweed is not mechanically cleared from the beach here, providing excellent foraging grounds for birds.

This White Stork was happily feeding when a Buzzard appeared drifting low overhead. The Stork's reaction was this threat response, surprising really as it's much larger than the Buzzard.
Lions aren’t the only ones that do it, but in my opinion they do it best. They smell with their mouth using an olfactory sense organ they have behind their front teeth. They scrunch up their face to restrict their nostrils, expose those large canines and “sniff” the air with their mouth. It’s called the Flehmen Response, or simply, Flehming. Lions have community mailboxes which I’ve mentioned in previous posts. It’s a tree or bush where they deposit a message with their urine. Maybe something like “I’m patrolling and will protect my territory.” When they come to the mailbox, they will invariably demonstrate a Flehmen Response to make sure they don’t miss any messages. I’ve also seen males do it around females, obviously interested in something other than territory. (Panthera Leo) (Sony a1, 400mm lens @ f/6.3, 1/500 second, ISO 1250)

Treecreepers, I find, are tricky to spot and photograph being one of our most well camouflaged small birds as well as fast movers. I had brief glimpses of this one spiralling up and around a massive Oak tree in a Hampshire wood.

Apartment block designed in a brutalist style by architects Lyons Israel Ellis and completed in 1969.
A strange name for a terrace (town house) on Markyate's High Street. Behind the Georgian facade you would find walls going back to the mid-17th century. The gate does also tell you that small coaches or at least horses could be accommodated in the backyard. Before the railway arrived, almost all the houses in the village were in some way or another related to the support for travellers on their way between London and the Midlands.

During Swift Response 2023 exercise I was able to attend some practices at Bardenas Reales shooting range in Spain by USAF A10s. No real fire (not even BRRRRRRRT, because of the ammunition) but great flying demos, some of them for the media. A great day!

2Excel Aviation operates two Boeing 727s on behalf of Oil Spill Response, the largest international, industry-funded conglomerate, that will leap into action should an oil spill occur anywhere in the world.
For many, the presence of the OSR 727 in the flying display programme at the 2016 Farnborough International Airshow was an absolute highlight, and, with Dan Griffith at the controls in the left-hand seat, it was not hard to see why!
This shot shows a water drop utilising the aeroplane's spray system as the yoke is pulled back and the wingtips cut through the air.
This particular aeroplane was the last 727 built and was previously N217FE with Federal Express.

During the fall rut, Moose commonly display a Flehmen Response—or lip curl. The mouth is open with his head pointed high into the sky. Often, their eyes close, as in a trance. The whole event can last a roughly minute. According to Wikipedia, “The behavior facilitates the transfer of pheromones and other scents into the vomeronasal organ located above the roof of the mouth via a duct which exits just behind the front teeth of the animal.” If you are lucky enough to witness this, you just start clicking away.

Responses to this week's Macro Monday's challenge produced so many cool and interesting things one might put in a pouch. As I thought about how to approach the challenge I happened to think of of the earliest days of humans on earth. We had fire but couldn't actually make it on our own. Tribal shaman carried well insulated pouches containing a small ember to light the next fire. That concept seemed a little tough in the short time I had but may appear at some future date. Barring the burning ember pouch it occurred to me how helpful a pouch holding light might be for a photographer to take out and spread around as needed... So here it is my take on this week's challenge -- a light pouch. Happy Macro Monday!

The officers were satisfied. My manner had convinced them. I was singularly at ease. They sat, and while I answered cheerily, they chatted of familiar things. I talked more quickly --more vehemently; but the noise steadily increased. I arose and argued about trifles, in a high key and with violent gesticulations; but the noise steadily increased. Why would they not be gone? I paced the floor to and fro with heavy strides, as if excited to fury by the observations of the men --but the noise steadily increased. Oh God! what could I do? I foamed --I raved --I swore! I swung the chair upon which I had been sitting, and grated it upon the boards, but the noise arose over all and continually increased. It grew louder --louder --louder! And still the men chatted pleasantly, and smiled. Was it possible they heard not? Almighty God! --no, no! They heard! --they suspected! --they knew! --they were making a mockery of my horror!-this I thought, and this I think. But anything was better than this agony! Anything was more tolerable than this derision! I could bear those hypocritical smiles no longer! I felt that I must scream or die! and now --again! --hark! louder! louder! louder! louder!
"Villains!" I shrieked, "dissemble no more! I admit the deed! --tear up the planks! here, here! --It is the beating of his hideous heart!"
About Flickr - I can't get too upset about the new design. After an initial dismay (it is pretty heavy-handed) I found that I never really spent much time on the home page. I always go to the lightbox view of my contacts' photos, which allows me to "walk through" all your wonderful images. It's still there and still fine. Likewise for the Groups pages. I dunno, it's just not worth all the concern. And the "other sites" have very few people doing stuff like alt process.

Israeli officials have admitted that the wife of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Sara Netanyahu, heavily retouches her photos and has even credited herself as the photographer on official state photos.
The Times of Israel reports that photographers who work for the Government Press Office have objected to distributing photos edited by Sara Netanyahu.
The publication, along with other media organizations in Israel, has begun boycotting photos credited to the premier’s wife and any photo that appears to have been retouched.
