in the late afternoon we found this female Tiger walking on a sandy road while she was marking her territory ( Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve, Madhya Pradesh, India )
It is the same female as in the image in the first comment box.
After a while she lied down and started flehmening.
The Flehmen response (also called the Flehmen position, Flehmen reaction, flehming, or flehmening) is a behaviour whereby an animal curls back its upper lip exposing its front teeth, inhales with the nostrils usually closed and then often holds this position for several seconds.
It may be performed over a site or a substance of particular interest to the animal (e.g. urine or faeces) or may be performed with the neck stretched and the head held high in the air.
Flehmen is performed by a wide range of mammals including ungulates and felids.
The behaviour facilitates the transfer of pheromones and other scents into the vomeronasal organ located above the roof of the mouth via a duct which exits just behind the front teeth of the animal. ( Source: Wikipedia )

A male lion (panthera leo) exhibiting the Flehmen response. Whilst this may look like a threatening baring of teeth, the purpose of this action is to draw the scent of other lion's urine into the Jacobson's organ. This facilitates recognition of other pride members and/or a lioness in oestrous. Photographed in The Kalahari, in Botswana. I used to believe in so many things. I don't so much any more. You cannot rely on people for the most part. Everyone wants to share their opinion with you now and tell you that you are wrong. I truly believe that social media has killed us. We say things to people online that we would not say to them in person.
No respect.
Happy Fence Friday
PS. photographers and musicians are cool.
The lip curling you see here is known as the Flehmen Response of rutting Deer. It is a behaviour where an animal curls back its upper lips exposing its front teeth, inhales with the nostrils and can hold this position for several seconds. Lions aren’t the only ones that do it, but in my opinion they do it best. They smell with their mouth using an olfactory sense organ they have behind their front teeth. They scrunch up their face to restrict their nostrils, expose those large canines and “sniff” the air with their mouth. It’s called the Flehmen Response, or simply, Flehming. Lions have community mailboxes which I’ve mentioned in previous posts. It’s a tree or bush where they deposit a message with their urine. Maybe something like “I’m patrolling and will protect my territory.” When they come to the mailbox, they will invariably demonstrate a Flehmen Response to make sure they don’t miss any messages. I’ve also seen males do it around females, obviously interested in something other than territory. (Panthera Leo) (Sony a1, 400mm lens @ f/6.3, 1/500 second, ISO 1250)
The non native Chinese Water Deer is in decline in its Asian homeland but thought to be increasing in the UK thus being of conservation significance. About 10% of its wild population is now found in England concentrated in the Norfolk Broads, Cambridgeshire Fens and Bedfordshire.
Spotted first some distance away at Welney, as the day drew to a close this member of a group of three came closer and closer and could be seen grazing in the beautiful evening sunlight of an exceptionally warm last day of February.
Smaller than a Roe Deer but bigger than a Muntjac this species have no antlers but the upper canines of the male are greatly elongated to form tusks visible in this shot ( females also have modified upper canine teeth.)
Thank you all for your kind responses.
Despite the murkiness of the shallow water at Inchmery on the south coast the red legs of this Redshank are still visible beneath the surface.
Thank you all for your kind responses.
We have been hosting one of Miss Lily's friends she met at Uni in the UK. The timing hasn't been great as Miss had a thesis due and exams. On Sunday, he had to put up with the old farts while she studied and we took him to the place close to my heart to show him our Victorian Coast line- Phillip Island. It was safe to say he was impressed.
This was taken at Kilcunda, just upon sunset and I leached the last bit of light by sitting the camera on the steps railing to get a longer exposure. It was a stormy day but we were lucky with the weather.
There is alot of talk on social media about the role of the vagus nerve and it's use in helping with mood and anxiety. The vagus nerve acts as a communication pathway between the brain and the body, influencing mood, stress responses, and even the immune system.
I think if I could go for a walk along the beach everyday, I would be able to resent my vegus nerve to something more approaching calm.
Benbulben is known as County Sligo’s 'Table Mountain' and is part of the Dartry Mountains. Benbulben was formed as a result of the different responses to erosion of the limestone and shale of which the mountain is formed. A hard and resistant limestone forms the upper cliffs and precipices. Benbulben was formed during the Ice age, when large parts of the Earth were under glaciers. It was originally merely a large ridge, however the moving glaciers cut into the earth, leaving a distinct formation, now called Benbulben.

While moving through the countryside, I put my zoom out the window and shot the trees flying by me. (I will add at this point that I was NOT driving) I then added some colour in Lightroom by way of the gradient filter. I am not much of a Photoshop person.
Took a quick shot of the spot mirror view as I pulled Engine 1 out of the station for a fire alarm activation. Thought it looked pretty cool!
A strange name for a terrace (town house) on Markyate's High Street. Behind the Georgian facade you would find walls going back to the mid-17th century. The gate does also tell you that small coaches or at least horses could be accommodated in the backyard. Before the railway arrived, almost all the houses in the village were in some way or another related to the support for travellers on their way between London and the Midlands.

A White-tailed Deer (Odocoileus virginianus) buck from Willacy County, Texas.
The peculiar expression on the face of this whitetail buck is known as lip curling, or the Flehmen response. When a buck encounters doe spoor during the rut, he will pause and essentially taste her urine, passing its sent through a structure on the roof of his mouth known as the vomeronasal organ. This organ will detect pheromones and communicate to the buck if the doe is approaching estrus. The organ apparently works best while tilting the head back and curling the lip as demonstrated in this image.

Yesterday I learned about "the most ridiculous philosophy". *__*
The Greek philosopher Zeno argues that an object cannot occupy two places at the same time. Therefore, at any particular moment during its flight the arrow is in only one place. But to be in one place is to be at rest. So, a flying arrow is actually always still.
This argument was not refuted until the 19th century, by application of the theory of assemblages and the theory of the functions of the real variable, which clarify the nature of space-time continua and of continuous functions.
from Greek Philosopher: Zeno of Elea
THANK YOU VERY MUCH for your kind comments on my former images!
No thinker simply repeats borrowed thoughts. New thoughts, however, risk resistance. They push against gravity. The more novel, the more profound, the more untested by time, the stronger the resistance. Who are you to think differently than we have always thought! Aquinas himself faced this very challenge. As a wise sage, he went into the deeper recesses of his mind and brought out something old and something new (Matt 13:52). Faithful to tradition, highly respectful of it, he was also innovative. A new and brilliant synthesis was born.

The delince of the small Montana village of Comertown, founded in 1913, began over 100 years ago, not that it was ever much beyond a few buildings and a post office.
The railroad coming through attracted homesteaders and farmers hoping to take advantage of the locality. But the land proved to be too dry for much more than ranching.
Residents began moving away almost immediately. The post office closed in 1957. Today, one or two of the houses are occupied.
The cemetery rests upon the hill beyond town.
