This table and chairs are my interpretation of a design by the late George Nakashima. First made when he was in an internment camp during WWII and refined through the 1960s, the design is timeless. In these uncertain times I often think as to how ephemeral our lives are. I strive to make furniture that will last 200 years or more. Long after my papers are no longer read and the patients who I have treated are no more, these objects will be part of someone’s life, still used and enjoyed. What better legacy can one strive for?

I'm pretty sure this was his last State Cup before he joined the U-17 residency program in Florida. He came back from Florida to play with his youth team one more time the following summer (Regional tournament), but it didn't go all that well.
I'm an agnostic on the question of whether he's the age his family and handlers claim, but I always found the suggestion that he was 2-3 years overage for his age group (he was supposedly "playing up" by 2 years) to be somewhat ludicrous. Hardly matters now that he's a pro, but I'm confident he was always "legal" within the stated USYS age group. In terms of size, physical development, and emotional development, he always seemed right at -- or a bit behind -- the guys he was playing with. Interestingly, the local paper I freelanced for did a long background article on Freddy around the time he played in the U-17 World Cup and interviewed a lot of his Potomac Cougars/Bethesda Internationals teammates and a lot of his opponents -- none of them had any problem believing Freddy was their age or a bit younger.
