North aisle west window filled with an ornamental design, composed of left-over traceries from the former east window which had to be reconfigured when George Gilbert Scott's apse replaced it in 1856.
St Peter's church in Hampton Lucy (on the northern edge of Charlecote Park) is one of the most outstanding churches of the pre-Victorian Gothic Revival, dating from 1822-6 and built to the design of Thomas Rickman.
The church consists of a spacious aisled nave with plaster vaulted ceilings and a soaring west tower. The chancel was altered on 1856 when George Gilbert Scott added the elaborate polygonal apse in full blown Victorian Gothic, a masterpiece in it's own right.
The most notable glass is that by Thomas Willement in the three apse windows from 1837 (formerly conrtained in one huge window before Rickman's east end was altered). Other windows contain glass by Hardmans of Birmingham. Some of the most attractive of all are the richly coloured and patterned geometric windows high in the nave clerestorey, casting their varied hues (especially blues and purples) across the vaulting on sunny days.
I was all ready for the Focal Point challenge. I had my set up, got my lighting then grabbed my camera. As I focused the camera, a little purple monster popped into view. "Get out of my shot Little Purple Monster", I yelled, and he sauntered off.
I dusted off the set and got rid of any tiny purple footprints and settled back down with my camera. A quick focus and there he was again, posing ... nude! "Thats NOT art" I yelled, "it's just gross! Now get off my set! and put pants on!!!"
By this time, Godzilla Kitties had destroyed my Tokyo and I had to reset. I glanced around in all direction and saw no purpleness. Quickly, I grabbed my camera, flew down to the set, focused and snapped! I was happy ... until I pulled up the shot on the monitor and saw this
