So a month or so ago the afghan eyes I have for Millie poked out her eyelashes. And thinking it would be easy to glue them back in I attempted to fix them, no luck. My hands tremble far too much apparently to handle such delicate work, and now she's stuck with no eyelashes.
So I figured maybe someone knows of a company that sells good quality blonde/light brown eyelashes, because getting new ones might make it slightly easier, seeing as how her old ones had been reused before.
Also, some general tips on applying eyelashes would be appreciated, I tried with tooth picks and such but no luck.
As per contest guidelines, here's an image of all pieces necessary to build Ailun, Sureka, and Danmar or the Kaita Senta, though some pieces were not required for the latter. I think you can tell where it got complicated... but I like how it worked out. Ailun's simple torso and limbs provided the perfect base for Senta's torso, while the others provided enough pieces to fill in the gaps.
If I happen to win the contest and BobtheDoctor is building my Kaita or anyone else wants to try, I have shots of the skeletons of Sureka, Danmar, and Senta available on request. Just so you know.

Having sat at Dollands Moor since Saturday 23 May Euro Cargo Rail locomotive numbers 66202 (GB 92 70 0 066202-7), 66249 (GB 92 70 0 066249-8) and 66233 (GB 92 70 0 066233-2) continue on their way to Toton dit behind 66069, one possibly requiring the repair services of Crewe IEMD. The convoy were also photographed later on route by Bill Bass at Oakleigh Park, by Tom Merrill at Egmanton and by class_70_jamie at Huntingdon .
DB Schenker Rail (UK) Ltd's class 66 (JT42CWR) number 66069 in English, Welsh and Scottish Railway maroon livery with zigzag gold band, large number and EWS logo is photographed working 6E26 from Dollands Moor sidings to Scunthorpe Redbourne sidings on 25 May 2015. This service returns empty FIA 'Multifret' twin intermodal flat wagons used to transport steel for export in billet form from Tata Steels Scunthorpe complex on South Humberside in Lincolnshire (see Andy Pictons photo) to a freight yard at Ebange in Eastern France via Dollands Moor and Calais Fréthun through the Channel Tunnel (click here for the route). Laurent Knop photographed Euro Cargo Rail's loco number E 186-317 at Valenciennes (Nord - department 59) hauling loaded wagons working from Calais Fréthun to Ebange on 2 April 2014. Nicolas Tomaszewski also videoed a loaded train passing Beuvrages hauled by Euro Cargo Rail's E186 162-4. Once in Ebange the steel is used at Tata's Hayange rail mill to produce rail for SNCF's LGV Est européenne construction programme to extend the French high-speed rail network.
66069 (works number 968702-069) was built by General Motors Electro-Motive Division, London, Ontario, Canada in 1998 and unloaded from the Heavy Lift Ship MV "Fairlift" at Newport Docks on 5 February 1999.

An officer of Rochdale Borough Police poses with his motor vehicle outside police headquarters.
The force was based – as were many at the time – in the local town.
We think this image dates from World War 2 as the vehicle’s headlamps are shielded for us in the blackout.
Does anybody recognise the make of vehicle?

There is a large park in development a short bike ride from my home. It has been renamed Parc Frédéric-Back last year in memory of this great animation film maker and environmentalist. Like a lot of parks in our town, and likely elsewhere in North-America, it is gradually being laid out in the heart of an old quarry later turned dump yard and covered with landfill.
The surrounding area has been poetically renamed “environmental complex” but underground pipes will be required for another generation before all gazes emitted from the refuse have left the soil. In order to open the park, the pipe’s valves have been covered with truncated painted spheres that are sprawled around throughout the first section to be open to the public. As most of the park lays lower than the neighboring borrows level, a little hill has been created so pedestrians and cyclist can have a larger horizon and see outside the quarry’s site.
I’ve been photographing the process of this redevelopment since a couple of years from the path around the site but have failed to find a way to capture the curious view of all these round things around the hill that satisfies me.
When I got to the top of the hill before sundown Friday, I noted a young woman with a camera on a tripod pointing over the vegetation towards a series of these spheres. I thought for a second she may have found a better view point than I did. As I walked her way, I noted that I could see a still of her face in her digital SLR’s back LCD monitor. I soon found out Shena was shooting for a very different purpose than I initially imagined.
She is originally from Minnesota and came to Montreal to study at the Circus School a few years ago. After she graduated, she went on tour for two years with the crew of Montréal based Cirque Éloize’s “Saloon” production. Although it is a much smaller circus than the famed (and now turned mega corporation) Cirque du soleil, its productions are quite interesting.
Shena’s act was a Cyr wheel number. If you’re not sure what this is, you will find a link to this multi-talented artist’s web page in the first comment box. She told me she also does lasso tricks.
It turned out that she just had her hair cut and was doing her own portrait with a professional grade camera so she could update her public image. She stands as her own agent.
When I asked if I could attempt to do a portrait of her myself and explained that it would be part of a stranger portrait gallery shared on Flickr, she told she also used to have a page herself. It’s still actually still online. She was definitively serious about it for some time. You will find a link to it below as well.
Interestingly, this was the second time I approached a photographer with a tripod in a park. The other one, Bob August, the stranger # 80 of my first 100 series, is also on Flickr.
Both encounters were memorable and provided interesting portraits.
I’d like to thank Shena for posing and wish her success in finding her next engagement.
Shena l’a alimenté sérieusement pendant quelque temps.

Bright sunshine on a beautiful Autumn day persuaded me to drive to Fraserburgh and re visit its magnificent fishing harbour for the first time in a few months, hence today Tuesday 13th November 2018 I visited and captured as many trawlers and scenes that I could, I had a great couple of hours.
Fraserburgh Harbour is situated in Aberdeenshire in the North East corner of Scotland and is ideally positioned for the fishing grounds of the North and East of Scotland, as well as being in close proximity to the North Sea oil and gas fields and the emerging offshore renewables market. The location also makes it well placed for trade with Scandinavia and the Baltic sea ports.
The Port caters and provides facilities for:
Safe Berthing with a 24 hour advisory service
Fishing, Cargo, Oil Related, Offshore Renewables and Ship Repair
Fuel, water, electricity, Stevedores available as required
Extensive local supply chain
Haulage - UK and Worldwide
Fraserburgh Harbour Commissioners are committed to providing first class services to the fishing fleet. This commitment has been demonstrated over the years through deepening projects which have provided safe berthing facilities and two of the most up to date fish markets in the UK. Both markets, which are completely chilled, are capable of maintaining a temperature of +1ºC allowing landings of fish and nephrops over a 24 hour period, five days per week with the fish being kept in prime condition for the sales that take place at a later period. The markets cover 3100 square metres and can handle 6,000 boxes of fish daily. The very successful summer and autumn squid fishery takes place a few miles from the port and vessels often choose to land through Fraserburgh Fishmarket. A Wi-Fi internet connection was recently installed in the market and is available for all users.
The harbour houses a number of full time crab fishermen who operate throughout the year. The vast majority of crab landed is trucked to markets in England with the balance processed locally. Many of these smaller vessels also take part in the seasonal mackerel fishery with line mackerel also being landed and sold through the Fishmarket.
Fraserburgh Harbour is also home to a number of the large pelagic fishing vessels who class Fraserburgh Harbour as their “home” port. These vessels can be seen moored in the Balaclava basin between fishing seasons for mackerel, herring, blue whiting etc. The harbour and bay are designated and approved pelagic landing areas seeing large quantities of herring and mackerel landed during the season with demand coming from local processors as well as continental buyers. Catches can be landed direct into the Lunar Freezing factory, one of the most up to date and modernised processing factory in the country, which is located alongside the pier in the Balaclava Harbour. These catches can be landed either by lorry or by pipeline on specific berths straight into the factory.
The Harbour offers fresh water, shore power, waste disposal, oil reception facilities, etc all essential services for the fishing fleet.
Information on these can be obtained from the Harbour Office or from the Marine Watchtower.
Google and Wiki have the folowing info on this fine town.
Fraserburgh (/ˈfreɪzərbrə/; Scots: The Broch or Faithlie, Scottish Gaelic: A' Bhruaich) is a town in Aberdeenshire, Scotland with a population recorded in the 2001 Census at 12,454 and estimated at 12,630 in 2006.
It lies at the far northeast corner of Aberdeenshire, about 40 miles (64 km) north of Aberdeen, and 17 miles (27 km) north of Peterhead. It is the biggest shellfish port in Europe, landing over 12,000 tonnes in 2008, and is also a major white fish port and busy commercial harbour.
History
The name of the town means, literally, 'burgh of Fraser', after the Fraser family that bought the lands of Philorth in 1504 and thereafter brought about major improvement due to investment over the next century. Fraserburgh became a burgh of barony in 1546. By 1570, the Fraser family had built a castle (Fraserburgh Castle) at Kinnaird's Head and within a year the area church was built. By the 1590s the area known as Faithlie was developing a small harbour.
In 1592, Faithlie was renamed Fraserburgh by a charter of the Crown under King James VI. Sir Alexander Fraser was given permission to improve and govern the town as Lord Saltoun. At present this title is still in existence and is held by Flora Fraser, 20th Lady Saltoun and head of Clan Fraser. The Royal Charter also gave permission to build a college and university in Fraserburgh allowing the Lord Saltoun to appoint a rector, a principal, a sub-principal, and all the professors for teaching the different sciences.
A grant from the Scottish Parliament in 1595 allowed the first college building to be erected by Alexander Fraser, and in 1597 the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland recommended the Rev. Charles Ferme, then minister at the Old Parish, to be its first (and only) principal.
In 1601, Fraserburgh became a burgh of regality. The college, however, closed only a decade or so after Ferme's arrest on the orders of James VI for taking part in the 1605 General Assembly, being used again only for a short time in 1647 when King's College, Aberdeen temporarily relocated owing to an outbreak of plague. A plaque commemorating its existence may be seen on the exterior wall of the remains of the Alexandra Hotel in College Bounds.
Fraserburgh thereafter remained relatively quiet until 1787 when Fraserburgh Castle was converted to Kinnaird Head Lighthouse, Scotland's first mainland lighthouse. In 1803, the original 1571 church building was replaced and enlarged to seat 1000 people. The Auld Kirk was to be the standing authority in the town up until the 1840s.
The Statistical Account on the Parish of Fraserburgh, written between 1791–1799 (probably 1791) by Rev. Alexander Simpson of the Old Parish Church, shows that the population of Fraserburgh was growing with peaks due to seasonal employment. He records a population of about 2000 in 1780 of whom only 1000 resided in the town.
There was an additional population of 200 in the village of Broadsea. He makes a point of the arrival of Dr. Webster in Fraserburgh in 1755 claiming that the population then only stood at 1682. By the time the account was written the population had increased by 518 souls since 1755. Rev. Simpson also gives accounts of deaths, births and marriages. Between 1784-1791, he claims to have an average of 37 baptisms, 14 marriages and 19 deaths per year. The statistical account mentions activities with the harbour. He describes the harbour as small but good, telling that it had the capability to take vessels with '200 tons burden' at the time the account was written.
The account also mentions that Fraserburgh had tried and succeeded in shipbuilding especially after 1784. His account finishes speaking of a proposed enlargement of the harbour. He claims that the local people would willingly donate what they could afford but only if additional funding was provided by the Government and Royal Burghs.
The second statistical account, written as a follow up to the first of the 1790s, was written in January 1840 by Rev. John Cumming. He records population in 1791 as 2215 growing to only 2271 by 1811, but increasing massively to 2954 by 1831. He considered the herring fishing, which intensified in 1815, to be the most important reason for this population boom. By 1840 he writes that seamen were marrying early with 86 marriages and 60 births in the parish in the space of one year. On top of this increased population, he explains that the herring season seen an additional 1200 people working in the Parish. There is also mention of the prosperity of this trade bringing about an increase in general wealth with a change in both dress and diet. Cumming also records 37 illegitimate children from 1837–1840 although he keeps no record of death.
The prosperity of the economy also brought about improvement within the town with a considerable amount of new houses being built in the town. The people were gaining from the herring industry as in real terms rent fell by 6% from 1815 to 1840. Lord Saltoun was described as the predominant land owner earning £2266,13s,4d in rents.
This period also saw the extension of the harbour with a northern pier of 300 yards built between 1807–1812 and, in 1818, a southern pier built by Act of Parliament. Cumming states that no less than £30,000 was spent developing the harbour between 1807 and 1840 by which time the harbour held eight vessels of 45–155 tons and 220 boats of the herring fishery.
A railway station opened in 1865 and trains operated to Aberdeen via Maud and Dyce, as well as a short branch line to St. Combs. It was, however, closed to passengers in 1965 as part of the Beeching cuts, though freight trains continued to operate until 1979, after which the station site was redeveloped. Currently, the closest operating station is Inverurie, 56 km (35 miles) away.
Climate[
Fraserburgh has a marine climate heavily influenced by its proximity to the sea. As such summer highs and winter lows are heavily moderated, with very mild winter temperatures for a location so far north. The differences between seasons are very narrow as a result, with February averaging highs of 6.7 °C (44.1 °F) and August 17.2 °C (63.0 °F).[6] As a result of its marine influence, there is significant seasonal lag, with September being milder than June and October has slightly milder nights than May, in spite of a massive difference of daylight. The climate is overcast and wet with 1351.8 hours of sunshine. Temperature extremes have ranged from 26.6.C (July 1995) down to -14.4.C (February 1991) 747.7 millimetres (29.44 in) of precipitation per annum.

By the spring of 1984 the pressure of a young family considerably curtailed my railway photography. Another aspect that also suffered was my record keeping of what I had actually taken and here is a case in point, a Agfacolour CT18 transparency of a Class 47 approaching Liverpool Street. The transparency mount has a date of February 1984 stamped on it so dating the shot to late 1983 or early 1984. The Class 47 has a Stratford “silver roof” and carries nameplates.
Any suggestions as to the identity of the Class 47 Gratefully received.
General consensus is this is 47579

It's possible that there may be a transatlantic cable landing point there too, as part of their backup systems, but that's not stated outright...
There is a major transatlantic cable landing station only a few kilometres away on Ketch Harbour Rd, and we'll check that out soon...
Went on a little foray to Bourton-on-the-water, where there is a model village, perfect to practice my non-tilshift tiltshift!
The last five months (May-September 2023) required me to move a lot for a variety of professional and personal reasons. It was the first time in several years that I entered airplanes without carrying my DSLR camera. This resulted in me tinkering and thinking with my mobile phone camera, surpassing my snobbish attitude towards it as means of photographic expression. Visiting an old favourite antique store of mine, I was exposed to wallet-sized black and white pictures, very fashionable in the 1920s-1960s. Phenomenologically, I thought, these little pictures carried significance similar to the one carried by the myriads of photos nowadays stored on mobile phones. I tried to combine the sensory experience of black and white with the ease of mobile phone shooting, itself resembling certain types of pinhole cameras. Themes are the same as in my earlier photography: decayed and rusty patterns of disintegration, emptiness of spaces, outlier figures of the everyday, street signs and letters, nonhuman friends, naturecultures, and psychopolitically haunted scenes. Places include: Canada (Toronto), Greece (Athens, Thessaloniki, Aghia, Larissa, Eleftheroupoli, Kavala), Scotland (Edinburgh), France (Paris), Belgium (Brussels).
Wright Gemini 2DL lowheight integral YJ59 BTX on it's private plate of AY03 MAX is today working the 197 races shuttle service on behalf of York Pullman and is alongside ex-Witchway Volvo B7TL Eclipse Gemini PJ05 ZWL on the X43 Coastliner Express from Bridlington to Leeds via Scarborough; This and 2764 are usually based at York but can swap between here and malton as and when required.
The start of July saw the peak season Coastliner timetable come into effect, however unlike in previous years the additional vehicle requirement fell not on Malton but on York. This is in order to run the limited stop journeys X40 and X43 which have been branded as Coastliner Express - but in another change is that the routes have been changed on both counts. Between Leeds and York the services are very similar to Cityzap in that aside from Seacroft they run non-stop not calling at Tadcaster or Copmanthorpe; then the route through and out of York is the same as before along Malton Road and not serving Stockton on the Forest. The next key change is that neither service calls at Malton, running around the town on the bypass instead - which for anybody who has travelled through the town on a morning will know that bypassing it saves a significant amount of time.
The X40 comes off the A64 at the Eden Camp junction whereby it then serves the attraction as well as close to Flamingoland before going on to Pickering where the next new change is, as the new X40 does not serve Thornton le Dale or Goathland and inatsead goes straight up the A169 - which means the X40 serves a different stop to the 840 which stops on the A170; unlike what the timetable states which once again is a misprint (an amazing misprint) the X40 stops close to pickering NYMR station. Once at Whitby the bus parks up for a few hours and the driver has a day at the beach before bringing everybody back again, almost like a coach operators' daytrip..... meanwhile further back the X43 carries on as usual along the A64 to Scarborough rail station, but then carries on to Filey and Bridlington taking the place of the discontinued 845 service which in recent months has been the sacrificial lamb of the Coastliner network when there haven't been enough buses available due to the 845 having been cut back to little more than a shuttle from Malton anyway - now there is only one Coastliner bus per day to Bridlington and it doesn't even wear Coastliner livery normally. This can all be traced back to the decision to purchase Volvo B5TL's for Coastliner after little more than a week with a demonstrator vehicle (this following a trial with a B5TL demo at Harrogate which had to be restarted after the trial vehicle broke down after 2 days and had to go back to Volvo for repairs). Right from the get-go the B5TL's have had problems with Coastliner from leaking sunshine roofs, then starter motors have failed, and more recently there have been total engine failures as pistons have broken through their casing. This has meant vehicles suddenly being out of use for a significant period of time, and there have been cases where the same 845 journey hasn't run for a week because there simply weren't enough vehicles. The CEO of the company won't even venture to malton depot to discuss these problems, though a further 3 B5TL's are due for delivery in September; and following similar problems with the vehicles of the same type at Harrogate Volvo have now decided to undertake full engine replacements under warranty of most of the batch both at Harrogate and Malton. ... meanwhile this extra work means York currently has 4 non-zap double deckers with both 2763 and 2764 being joined by 421 from Burnley (originally a Coastliner) and a vehicle from Harrogate which would initially be 404 (ex-Coastliner) then an ex-Midlands President, then also being joined by 440 (also ex-Coastliner)
In Albuquerque, NM, this may be described as a common view. However in March ! one block down from the home. Well it started out to be a normal day, like letting the dog do her thing, get the paper and start the coffee, as I opened the door heard a louder whoosh than normal, knew what it was already,, above my home 20 to 25 feet, ambling along slowly, this Commercial sized balloon with as the count turned out to be 12 morning adventurist. deposited on the ground Morning Visitors, stopped traffic, got camera /on / tis the moment, Enjoy !

“A.I. - About Apple’s Identity”

### Will Apple Listen to Mark Zuckerberg’s Criticism?
I Don’t Think So—At Least Not for Someone Enchanted by the Apple Vision Pro.
Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, recently appeared on a well-known podcast, where he criticized Apple for failing to release an innovative product since the iPhone and for experiencing a decline in sales.
Appearing on a podcast originating from Apple and then proceeding to criticize the company might seem like a lighthearted joke, but I believe he was serious.
Why? Because he now wields a weapon—the AR glasses.
With the support of various institutions and a team of highly skilled professionals, he has likely achieved some notable milestones. Yet, as someone who has been a devoted Apple user since the PowerBook 540c, I still do not sense any real craftsmanship or identity in what he creates.
This sentiment extends to other IT giants that currently dominate the world—Meta, Amazon, Tesla, Microsoft, and Google.
Just by listing their names, readers of this text are likely already picturing their respective CEOs.
In the past, I wrote that Steve Jobs was not an artist.
What he excelled at was weaving together scattered ideas from across the world, expanding upon them, and linking them to the future.
The true creator was Jonathan Ive.
A minority of people may share this perspective with me.
However, when I see these IT moguls quickly shifting their corporate stances the moment the possibility of Trump returning to power emerges, I feel compelled to speak my mind.
The AR glasses, the cars—everything they create lacks a fundamental concept.
Call it ideology or, in lighter terms, identity.
It is true that Tim Cook and Apple’s current team have become more prone to letting slip details about upcoming products before their official release.
I have always loved music.
Artists shut themselves in a studio, cutting off the outside world, pouring their anger, hatred, joy, and sorrow into each note with intense focus.
It’s as if they are entrusting something to their music.
And when they finally release their album, they explain the emotions and thoughts behind its creation.
(Prince, whom I admire, rarely spoke about his work, so understanding his art required engaging with the final product itself.)
Until an album is complete and released, artists say nothing.
It was those artists who moved me to my core.
The faint glow of Apple’s innovation still remains within me.
Not even last year’s widely criticized "failure"—the Apple Vision Pro—could extinguish it.
In fact, it shines even brighter than the iPhone.
Because beyond its cutting-edge electronic components, I can sense a concept, an ideology.
Unfortunately, I will never feel the same from Meta’s AR glasses or Tesla’s cars.
I have written at length, but here is the key article:
**Tim Cook Donates Over $1.5 Million to Trump’s Inauguration Ceremony**
🔗 [Gigazine Article](gigazine.net/news/20250104-apple-ceo-tim-cook-donates-1-m...)
At first glance, this might make it seem like Tim Cook, like other tech CEOs, has sold his soul. But that is not the case.
While Cook personally donated to Trump, Apple itself did not follow the same path as other companies.
Apple refused to bow to Trump.
If asked what Apple’s ideology truly is, I would answer this:
**Apple is a group of individuals who believe in themselves.**
Steve Jobs, watching from heaven, is probably chuckling at this overly serious text I wrote.
A company that does not pander to Trump—
That is Apple. :)

8mm film of our honeymoon resurrected after decades.
youtu.be/zH-dG7bMeL4?si=yLF5_f1m-LhAVdPp
We found the 8mm film of our honeymoon for the first time in decades, and burned it onto a DVD.
On June 6, 1993, we got married, and headed straight to Nassau, Bahamas, via New York.
Our destination was the pink sand beach where the late Princess Diana went on her honeymoon.
If you're heading to the Bahamas, this might be a good reference.
The hotel we stayed at was the Ramada Hotel, which no longer exists.
My wife is showing us the hotel room.
But now you can see the beautiful scenery in real time.
When I played the DVD that arrived, it showed footage of our arrival in the Bahamas.
Please take a look if you'd like.
This time, we asked Fujifilm to make the DVD.
I'll post the link below.

Notice regarding "Lot No.402_”.
From now on I will host "Lot No.402_".
The work of Leonardo da Vinci who was sleeping.
That is the number when it was put up for auction.
No sign was written on the work.
So this work couldn't conclude that it was his work.
However # as a result of various appraisals # it was exposed to the sun.
A work that no one notices. A work that speaks quietly without a title.
I will continue to strive to provide it to many people in various ways.

### **Synopsis**
Kei Kitami, a student preparing for university entrance exams, meets Kaori Kamimura, an event companion six years his senior, through social media.
Kaori has come to Tokyo with a dream—to befriend famous artists.
To achieve this, she needs the influence of Ryo Osawa, a well-known radio producer.
During a live radio broadcast, Osawa speaks directly to Kaori:
*"I have a wife and child. But still, I want to see you."*
Meanwhile, Rika Sanjo, Kei’s classmate who secretly harbors feelings for him, is closely watching Kaori’s every move...

Main story
There are two reasons why a person faces the sea.
One to enjoy a slice of shine in the sea like children bubbling over in the beach.
The other to brush the dust of memory like an old man who misses old days staring at the shine
quietly.
Those lead to only one meaning though they do not seem to overlap. It’s a rebirth.
I face myself to change tomorrow a vague day into something certain.
That is the meaning of a rebirth.
I had a very sweet girlfriend when I was 18.
After she left I knew the meaning of gentleness for the first time and also a true pain of loss. After
she left # how many times did I depend too much on her # doubt her # envy her and keep on telling lies
until I realized it is love?
I wonder whether a nobody like me could have given something to her who was struggling in the
daily life in those days. Giving something is arrogant conceit. It is nothing but self-satisfaction.
I had been thinking about such a thing.
However I guess what she saw in me was because I had nothing. That‘s why she tried to see
something in me. Perhaps she found a slight possibility in me # a guy filled with ambiguous unstable
tomorrow. But I wasted days depending too much on her gentleness.
Now I finally can convey how I felt in those days when we met.

www.flickr.com/photos/stealaway/54271473379/in/dateposted...
gigazine.net/news/20250104-apple-ceo-tim-cook-donates-1-m...

Amazing to watch. This work is very physical and requires a lot of strength, along with the delicate touch of an artist. Their styles differed. Some were working from a drawing taped to the ice blocks, some from a drawing in their pocket which they consulted from time to time, and some were working freehand. Some were using a variety of power tools (chain saws, drills, grinders) and others were using hand chisels. Perhaps they used all of these at different stages of the sculpting. The unusually warm day in Toronto (+9 C. and sunny) made it more comfortable for the artists but challenging as the sculptures were melting as they worked.
A picture is crafted usually for 3 to 7 days, while some larger or more complicated require 10 to 14 days to make.
Please click on the images to enjoy their full size.
You will be amazed of the details, looks equally wonderful from distance and close-up. Many hours are involved to create this creartive piece. Beautiful picture with beautiful, solid black wooden frame, behind a plexiglass. Protected, yet lightweight.

About Quilling paper form of art
Quilling or paper filigree is an art form that involves the use of strips of paper that are rolled, shaped, and glued together to create decorative designs. The paper is wound around a quill to create a basic coil shape. The paper is then glued at the tip and the coil shaped, these shaped coils are arranged to form flowers, leaves, and various ornamental patterns similar to ironwork.
Then the sun came out. Another photograph was required.
My friend Jim bought some land south of Rochester years ago and has been working on it a bit at a time, planting trees, clearing underbrush, building a fine shed, and building a tree house for his grandchildren (who are in the same age range as were his daughters when he bought the land).
It is a simple but sturdy structure set about ten feet off the ground between four corner trees, with tarps for sides and roof. The Ondu 6x6 and I climbed up the ladder for a look.

Half this image already existed in the clouds, all it required was a little cropping, mirroring and increased contrast to complete it.
There is a bit of background required to put this portrait in context. By mere chance, I discovered online that a fully-restored Boeing B-17G World War II heavy bomber was going to spend a week at the small airport in Kingston Ontario. Kingston is a beautiful, historic city three hours east of Toronto. It is also home to my son and his fiancée. While I wasn’t in a position to take a flight on Sentimental Journey, I was determined to see the plane, tour it on the ground, photograph it, and watch it take off and land.
When I saw it sitting on the tarmac of the Kingston Flying Club at the south edge of the airport, it was truly a thing of gleaming beauty. The plane is owned by the Commemorative Air Force, a nonprofit which is dedicated to preserving historic aircraft. It has chapters throughout the U.S. Sentimental Journey’s home base is in Phoenix Arizona but it tours and is available to the public every summer.
The man you are looking at was one of the volunteers who was available to explain about the airplane and answer questions and he was a treasure trove of historical and aviation information. Sensing my eager interest, he kindly made himself available to talk about airplanes and World War II and when I expressed interest in him, he also shared a bit about himself. Meet Bruce.
Bruce is a member of the Commemorative Air Force chapter in Indiana and he told me every year he likes to donate a couple of his vacation weeks to the organization. This summer he flew up to Toronto from Indiana on a commercial flight and met Sentimental Journey in nearby Peterborough Ontario. He spent that week hosting visitors and accompanying them on demonstration rides on the plane. He then accompanied the plane from Peterborough to Kingston where he is doing his last week of volunteering before returning to his “real life” in Indiana.
What is Bruce’s “real life?” Interestingly, it has nothing to do with aviation. He is a PhD research chemist at Purdue University in Lafayette Indiana. His work has to do with analyzing the quantities of medications in bloodstream samples and much of his work has to do with the pharmaceutical industry. He directs the university’s Metabolomics Facility (yes, that was a new one for me too.)
Understandably, most of our conversation was about Sentimental Journey and historic aircraft and it was clear that Bruce is a very informed student of history and lover of airplanes. He had a very warm, pleasant manner, which combined with is knowledge of the plane, made him the perfect tour guide. He had a very pleasant accent which I think was a mix of North Carolina where he did his PhD and Indiana where he lives currently.
When I explained my Human Family photo project to him, Bruce was interested and was happy to participate. We had a few minutes while other visitors were inside the plane and I suggested posing him inside the bomb bay, the doors of which were open and provided sheltered light on this bright day. We both had to duck to get into the bay and I took a couple of portraits with sample bombs hanging on the racks above his head. When I invited him to share a message with the project he thought for a moment and said “We should not glorify war, but we should not forget the past either. This plane serves as a memorial to the young men, often just 20 and 21 years of age who risked and lost their lives in these machines while serving their country.” He went on to reflect about the fact that many of the pilots, navigators, radio operators, and bombardiers were just kids and many of them had never been more than 25 miles from their Midwestern farm lives when they entered the military, were taught to fly and fight, and found themselves over the heart of Germany in the dead of night at 30,000 feet, dropping bombs and fighting for their lives. It is a sobering thought indeed. Bruce concluded with the comment “I wonder how many 20 year-olds would be able to manage that today?”
Thank you Bruce, for a fascinating conversation, a wealth of information about B-17s, and for participating in The Human Family. This is my 522nd submission to The Human Family Group on Flickr.
I hope you had a great two weeks of volunteering and return to your university job with fond memories of Canada.
You can view more street portraits and stories by visiting The Human Family.

It is required that you keep the original packaging of anything that you buy for as long as it is under guarantee…
So, we had quite a number of empty boxes in our attic!
From camera and computer-stuff!
Emptied it for our move to our new house and discovered this!
EMPTY! A wasp’s nest.
We knew we had them at some point, but they didn’t come into the house itself, so we left it alone.
I had never seen this!
It is fragile (broke in half when we tried to remove it from under a beam), feather-light and paper-thin!
Beautiful and delicate, I could not resist photographing it in MACRO!
Here are some interesting facts:
The queen will build her nest with a papery material that she makes by chewing small pieces of wood and she mixes these with saliva to form a kind of papier-mâché.
There is a difference in the nest of the tree wasp.
The papery outside is usually a dark grey whereas the common wasp will be beige.
The queen commences the nest by producing a golf ball sized sphere inside which she constructs a series of about 16 to 20 cells into which she lays eggs.
About 7 days later the eggs hatch into grubs, the queen will catch insects and feed them to the grubs.
When each has fed until it is full it seals its self into the cell.
In the nest she will raise a few workers and these will start to enlarge the nest and help to rear the next generation of wasps.
Nest construction starts in earnest in June and will usually reach its maximum in size in September, but may not end until late November if the conditions are right.
If lots of wasps and other insects are seen on shrubbery or flowers it is most likely that they are simply feeding there.
A treatment is not required in such circumstances, as it would only kill the wasps that are present at the time.
The size of wasp colonies will vary from year to year, but at its maximum nests may contain between 5 – 10,000 wasps.
Unbelievable!
Thank you, M, (*_*)
