It was back to Basingstoke today (12/01/2025) for another look at the rail replacement operation with an impressive 13 departures an hour. A bit of a Barnes-fest certainly added brightness to an otherwise grey day.
GWR HST Castle set comprising power cars 43154 'Compton Castle' and 43097 'Castle Drogo' head south at Besford working the 2O78 12;42 Great Malvern to Weymouth, the Castle set working as far as Bristol Temple Meads where passengers transferred to a Class 165 for onward Travel to Weymouth.
The Set had earlier worked the 2Z58 10.41 Bristol - Gloucester and the 2V59 11.39 Gloucester to Great Malvern. 18th March 2022
On New Year's Day 2017, First West of England provided three new blue-fronted Alexander Dennis E40D MMCs for the Rail Replacement non-stop service between Cardiff Central and Bridgend in place of Arriva Trains Wales and GWR services.
Representing these, 33795 is captured in a wet Bridgend, turning from Derwen Road on to Boulevard de Villenave D'Ornon (the Inner By-Pass in old money) when setting off on another trip to Cardiff.
Two former Norfolk Southern GP38-2s rest at the Buckingham Branch yard in Doswell, sandwiching a GP16. Recently acquired from NS, these engines floated around in patched black paint for a while before mercifully being repainted in company colors. Their noses were chopped along the way, and today these engines are standard BB road power.

MTA Metro-North's West Of Hudson equipment is soon slated for replacement. I was told that come January, the MTA will release plans for their new fleet to replace the aging EMD locomotives. Operated and maintained by New Jersey Transit, these old rebuilt diesel locomotives are nearing their life expectancy of over 40/50 years. There was certainly a good variety of vehicles running through Basingstoke on rail replacement duties today (Good Friday 2023). The sun made an appearance which was good to see as well!

Metroline LT14 (LTZ1014) & VWH2107 (LK15CXA) arrive at Northwick Park Hospital on the Metropolitan line rail replacement service ML1 (Rayners Lane to Stonebridge Park).
Serving Northwick Park station was deemed unsuitable by TfL so the rail replacement route stops instead at Kenton and Northwick Park Hospital instead.
[EL-DE925] Here is a Setra S315NF belonging to Deeken seen on rail replacement duties to Emden at Leer ZOB. This bus was new to Transdev Nice, France.

Due to the failure of a Class 90, 321363 and 321306 were drafted in to work 1P49 to London Liverpool Street.
Trying to find a replacement for my long straight style. This os a good one I think. Neither of these are cheap though 😢

Rail replacement buses at Five Ways station, Birmingham, in February 1986. The leading vehicle, Metrobus KJW 301W, was disposed of in 1991 to another operator - Stevensons. All info cribbed off various other Flickr sites as I know nothing about buses!
State Line Tower in Hammond, Indiana was North America's largest mechanical interlocking. The plant was put in service in 1897 and retired in August 2000.
