There was certainly a good variety of vehicles running through Basingstoke on rail replacement duties today (Good Friday 2023). The sun made an appearance which was good to see as well!
It was back to Basingstoke today (12/01/2025) for another look at the rail replacement operation with an impressive 13 departures an hour. A bit of a Barnes-fest certainly added brightness to an otherwise grey day.
Chiltern Bus YR59NPD is seen arriving into Redhill Station on Southern rail replacement between Purley and Horley. This bus is former HCT SD3 and Ex Powells 2903/89.

The Replacements were even better than I hoped they would be. Very worth suffering through a horrible rainy day to see them and also shooting quite a few bands I cared much less about this past weekend at Riot Fest. I didn't ever get to see them back in the day but this show was fantastic.

It was back to Basingstoke today (12/01/2025) for another look at the rail replacement operation with an impressive 13 departures an hour. A bit of a Barnes-fest certainly added brightness to an otherwise grey day.
On New Year's Day 2017, First West of England provided three new blue-fronted Alexander Dennis E40D MMCs for the Rail Replacement non-stop service between Cardiff Central and Bridgend in place of Arriva Trains Wales and GWR services.
Representing these, 33795 is captured in a wet Bridgend, turning from Derwen Road on to Boulevard de Villenave D'Ornon (the Inner By-Pass in old money) when setting off on another trip to Cardiff.
Two former Norfolk Southern GP38-2s rest at the Buckingham Branch yard in Doswell, sandwiching a GP16. Recently acquired from NS, these engines floated around in patched black paint for a while before mercifully being repainted in company colors. Their noses were chopped along the way, and today these engines are standard BB road power.
New York City Transit Authority (NYCTA) work trains are seen assisting with track replacement between W 8th Street and Ocean Parkway Stations on the BMT Brighton Line. Tracks are removed and installed in panels, with one of the cranes seen here removing the old panels from the structure and the other lifting new ones onto the structure. The trains also include crane cars, which are used to move the track panels from the crane pick area to the installation site and vice versa.
The weekend of the 20th/21st March 2021 once more sees Greater Anglia rail services suspended between Broxbourne and Stansted Airport, with replacement transport bridging the gap with the local stations inbetween.

The weekend of the 28th and 29th Janaury 2023 once more sees a suspension of Greater Anglia rail services, this time between Bishops Stortford and Stansted Airport/Cambridge North, with replacement road transportation provided.
At polar opposite to some of the larger coaches about, A2B Iveco Daily RJ72HYG heads along Stansted Road into Bishops Stortford nearing the journey end 29/01/23
I found a different style that doesn't have razor sharp glass on it! I got it painted, bedazzled and installed. I'm waiting for some wood to finish the roofs and to cover the wires with.

Seaford and District Volvo Fleet 828, W 828 PFB, about to turn left from Stroudley Road onto Fleet Street, Brighton on route to Three Bridges.
The Bank Holidays over Christmas 2021 saw a large rail replacement bus operation covering services between Farnborough, Woking, Weybridge, Aldershot, Guildford and Basingstoke. As a result, a large number of vehicles were out and about and I snapped a few in Farnborough, Guildford and Woking.

MTA Metro-North's West Of Hudson equipment is soon slated for replacement. I was told that come January, the MTA will release plans for their new fleet to replace the aging EMD locomotives. Operated and maintained by New Jersey Transit, these old rebuilt diesel locomotives are nearing their life expectancy of over 40/50 years. Metrolink replacement to Ashton today saw an opportunity for some photos.
A quite empty Tyrers LX11CWM is seen in Droylsden leading a Stagecoach on the 216 which would have a healthy load. Well what would you expect, the 216 almost mirrors the Metrolink for most of the route into Ashton, the advantage of easier access on Metrolink for the wheel/Push chair has gone and you can pay by card or cash if you are so inclined.
The replacement bus pulls up quite some way from the Metrolink stop, can I pay by cash, no you need a Metrolink ticket from the station over there, will you wait while I get a ticket, no bye.
A surprise vehicle on rail replacement between Epsom and Clapham Junction today, 2nd February, 2020. Volvo B10M-62 Van Hool Alizee N175 LHU was new to Tappins and was running in Norfolk for Jonathan Joplin until just two weeks ago. It is now operating for Candy Coaches.
It was a busy day of rail replacement buses passing through Staines-upon-Thames on Saturday 27/02/2021 with 20 departures an hour heading for Hounslow, Windsor & Eton, Weybridge and Ascot.
There were 17 operators out and about which between them managed to put on a show of 37 buses to keep me busy! And it was lovely and sunny too!!

Rail replacement on the West Somerset Railway between Minehead and Dunster on 15th September 2021 with former Stockport Leyland Titan PD2/40 HJA 965E from the Crosville Vintage fleet.
The first job for Omega Buses is a Metro Replacement run. There have been delays in the firms' birth, and Omega are still operating in Smith's yard, and do not have any services yet. High winds have caused problems on the metro and local firms are covering.
Omega are hoping to have their full fleet of 10 vehicles painted and acquire services by the end of January/start of February. At this moment in time, neither Smith's nor Omega are buying new vehicles, but the plan is to keep Omega as a smaller, family run type firm, with a maximum of 10 buses in the fleet, and any further expansion will occur in the Smith's side of the fleet.
