Repeating patterns. I like this photo. It has something artistic in it. I shot this photo through the Porshe SUV's window in spokane downtown across the mall. I like the reflections that make a repeating pattern.

i'm sure i've got that already, but it never gets old.

Leading Lines and Repeating Patterns

For my leading lines picture, I brought my camera with me downtown and took a picture of a fountain outside of a business building. The water pool is in a long rectangular shape and has the fountain down at the far end of the rectangle. When I look at this picture my eyes follow the pool water down to the fountain, making it a leading line. I took this picture at 12:15 in the afternoon so the sun was shining and it was a beautiful day out. The aperture was 3.5 and the shutter speed was 1/1600. In Photoshop, I increased the brightness and contrast. I also played with the levels. I additionally cropped the picture to make it thin and vertical.

For my repeating patterns picture, I went to my community park and started shooting things that had patterns. I chose this picture of the playground floor material because the circles look like they are going on forever. I used great depth of field so you can see all of repeating circles. I took this picture at 5:20, using an aperture of 20 and a shutter speed of 15. I cropped the back of the picture so the pattern appears to be continuing forever. Additionally, I added brightness, contrast, and saturation of the photo. I rotated the photo to make it vertical just like my other photo.

I learned many things while doing this project. I learned what the terms leading lines and repeating pattern actually mean. This project made me go out and look at things in different ways. The repeating pattern picture really made me look at little details of things to try to find a picture that worked. I also got more practice editing and adjusting my pictures in photo shop. I liked that this project gave me a challenge, but I also had fun going out and shooting.

Taken on my first Architecture tour in Chicago. I've lived here many years, but I don't often get to play tourist :)

It's definitely worth the hour! Our tour guide was a lot of fun.
