Edited fabric pattern for Japanese clothes from the de Young Museum in San Francisco. The patterns all repeat in at least one direction.

a hat for friday. i might have just picked up another craft fair (yay!) and my book deal is a go (gulp). it will be a pattern book for creative knitting and embellishing with some recycling thrown in! (that's the hope anyhow.) i really don't know what i'm doing. it'll certainly be a learning experience. i'm hoping to avoid the 'buy this yarn and do this with it' thing. can you do that and still have a pattern book?

Design No: 886" Images of Mary and St. Vincent DePaul depicted on repeating pattern, single sided. Very much in the style of West African Fancy Wax prints. Descriptions in Swahili surround each image. Inscriptions/Translations

Note: The "Umoja Wa Utume Mkatoliki" is a Catholic missionary group

Trans: "St. Vincent Pallotti (1795-1850)" "Ernestness for the love of Christ (2 Cor. 5:14)"

There are about Ten "Pallottine Parishes" in Tanzania. This appears to be a cloth of the Mission group at one of these parishes. Nothing in this gives us an idea of date, but sometime in the last 20 years seems reasonable.

Repeating...that was a tough one. I hope you can find a repeating pattern in this old wine rack ;)

Station lockers are available in almost all train stations in Japan. Small lockers cost around 300yen while the biggest (perfect for big luggages) cost 800yen.
