Here is yet another 'progression' sketch that was created over several months during the 1990's. It was affixed to a slide-out table surface that's part of some office-scale file cabinets. When I visited my friend and colleague Steve in the morning, usually to get a cookie out of a drawer, I would try to think of another detail to add to the sketch.
Steve and I had another friend and colleague Bill who was quite meticulous in his personal tastes and preferences. He and his wife had an impressively well-kept and period-decorated home, typically in pre-WW2 American styles. They even kept their microwave oven hidden in the pantry cabinet!
The neighborhood in which they lived was an old community that has a mix of the very nicely maintained, down to the decidedly run-down. Being technically a part of the City of Los Angeles, their area was subject to their programs, motions and zoning decisions of which Bill would be rightly critical.
Thus as a joke, this was a running sketch of things that affect the quality of life in a neighborhood. Everything shown of course would be the direct opposite of what Bill and his wife, and most of us I should add, would want!

Rendering of the Brummbar. Big son of a gun. This is probably the biggest vehicle we will ever make. The Tigers are nice, and cool to look at. But prob will never build one. I prefer ALL of the medium and light AFVs. Stueys, Shermans, and Panzers are my fav to build.

Snow and ice in architectural renderings is not that usual; this one shows accurately how places don't clear off the ice and snow though.
The second in a series of four moto concepts to rekindle design and rendering skills. Looking at it now, it has a subconscious feel of the Suzuki 'Nuda' concept bike from the late 80's!!

A rendering of the design of the 2400-series cars by Boeing-Vertol.
We're sending our 2400-series railcars off into retirement with a special ceremonial last trip on Wednesday, January 21, 2015. Learn more about these cars and join us in saying "Goodbye, old friends!" after 38 years of service on the 'L'.

The first of this series of railcars were introduced in 1976—a year where the nation was celebrating its 200th birthday. It was also the year when “One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest” won multiple Academy Awards (including Best Picture), when Jimmy Carter was elected President, when Apple Computer Inc. was formed by Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak and Captain and Tennille’s “Love Will Keep Us Together” won the Grammy for Record of the Year.
The 200 cars in this series were built by Boeing-Vertol between 1976-1978, with the car’s interior and exterior designs done by industrial design firm Sundberg-Ferar, who also worked on cars for the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA, DC Metro), Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) and Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA).
The cars were delivered with bold, red-white-and-blue graphics on both the sides and the end of the cars—a nod to the nation’s bicentennial—and were initially introduced into Ravenswood Service (today’s Brown Line) and North-South Route (roughly today’s North Side Red Line and South Side Green Line, via the State Street Subway), and West-Northwest Route (today’s Blue Line).
One distinguishing feature of these cars that separated them from hundreds of their most recent predecessors is that they went back to sliding doors, which later made it possible to convert them for wheelchair access under the Americans with Disabilities Act. (Previous to these cars, starting back in the 1940s, our cars were built with streetcar-like folding “blinker doors” which had sets of four narrow panels that swung inward at stops.)
While the last cars of this series ended their service on the Orange and Brown Lines, they were most associated with Green and Purple Line services since the 1990s.

This is the first exercise I did for my Design Presentation (manual rendering) class. I drew a very simple floor plan in Autocad and rendered it in color pencils. The key is to make elements closer to you (in this case, the taller the object is, the closer it is to you) brighter and more vibrant. Also, adding shadows helps anchoring the elements.
This rendering was done with Prismacolor markers and some colored pencils. This one took a lot less time than my colored pencil renderings. The chair is from anthropologie.com.
