Shigar Valley is a valley in Baltistan in northern Pakistan that is watered by Shigar River. The valley stretches about 170 km from Skardu to Askole and is the gateway to the high mountains of the Karakoram. Even though the Shigar Valley is a remote and largely inaccessible place, there are several villages in the valley. Askole is the last settlement in Shigar Valley, which is still far from the high mountains.

Shigar is the administrative sub-division of District Skardu. Population living in Shigar valley are called balities who speak balti an archaic form of tibetian language. People are peaceful, hospitable and friendly. They are Muslim Shias. Like rest of district the valley is crime free. Notable pesonallities from this valley are Mr. G M Sikander who joined Civil Service of Pakistan and has risen to the level of a Federal Secretary. Late Mr. Mohammad Ishaq a successful businessman who in his life time made tremendous contribution for education and health as head of Marafie Foundation.{See www.marafiefoundation.org} Mr. Afzal Ali Shigri joined Police Service of Pakistan and rose to the rank of Inspector General of Police. After his retirement he is heading the Marafie Foundation and working for improvement of health and education sectors. Quark Expeditions and other ship operators provide support to researchers with transportation to remote locations. This location featured a camera to monitor the local bird colony. More times than not, polar bears make toys of the equipment. The equipment may make it through 3 seasons. As researchers visit each area, they'll swap out the memory disks. Remote controlled Rover, I challenged myself to make a remote controlled 6x6 with all wheel drive, as small as possible, front and rear steering, suspension and as many lights as I can cram into this model as possible. This model contains 1 buggy motor, 1 pf steering servo, 1 pf v2 IR receiver, 1 pf switch, 4 sets of pf LEDs, 2 pf extension cables and 2 old school lego LED lights (for the flashing lights)

How to use this remote ??

It's wild, remote and beautiful; it's Wainuiomata Beach, and it's on the south coast of New Zealand's North Island.

Strong, cold Southerly winds sweep straight on to the beach straight from Antarctica, and as a result, the vegetation on the hillside is very stunted...!

Thanks so much for the very kind and encouraging comments beneath this photo...! Your support is very greatly appreciated.

I bought a remote! :) I took some self-portraits to test it out and I think I'm happy with it!

I feel like venting so let's begin.

Top 3 Pet Peeves:

1) LIES. Honesty is the number one quality I look for in all people. If you're dishonest, expect me to keep you at bay. If you lie to me, I guarantee it will be a struggle for me to get over and things might never be the same. Take that as a warning. Lies are stupid; just don't do it.

2) Being judged before people get to know me. I don't always make the best first impressions. I can be shy, awkward, and even moody if you catch me at a bad time. As a general rule, I tend to be most outgoing around outgoing people. I can honestly say that I don't dislike anyone. I'll never intentionally do you wrong and I'll try to be the best person I can be.

3) Finding out through a third party that someone was criticizing me behind my back. If you have something to say about me, good or bad, say it to me directly. I'll respect you more that way. It's also less hurtful.

So I realized this doesn't suit my picture at all... haha! I'm happy, just kind of frustrated.

The S&C could have had its own chapter in Red for Danger - it saw eight major accidents between 1910 & 1968 with 44 fatalities and 142 injured, all in days when the modern day safety devices we have now would have precluded most if not all of thoses crashes.

The line only took 5 years to build but there were 6,000 navvies employed and cost around £330m in today's money. You could probably quadruple that if it was built in the modern era looking at the way HS2 is going.

Like other railways constructed over barren areas (the West Highland for example) you can imagine the godforsaken conditions the men had to work in.
