Sheep grazing along the Pangong Lake Road on the way to Pangong Lake, Ladakh.
Ladakh ("land of high passes") is a region in the Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir that currently extends from the Kunlun mountain range to the main Great Himalayas to the south, inhabited by people of Indo-Aryan and Tibetan descent. It is one of the most sparsely populated regions in Jammu and Kashmir and its culture and history are closely related to that of Tibet. Ladakh is renowned for its remote mountain beauty and culture.
Historically, the region included the Baltistan (Baltiyul) valleys (now mostly in Pakistan), the entire upper Indus Valley, the remote Zanskar, Lahaul and Spiti to the south, much of Ngari including the Rudok region and Guge in the east, Aksai Chin in the northeast (extending to the Kun Lun Mountains), and the Nubra Valley to the north over Khardong La in the Ladakh Range. Contemporary Ladakh borders Tibet to the east, the Lahaul and Spiti regions to the south, the Vale of Kashmir, Jammu and Baltiyul regions to the west, and the southwest corner of Xinjiang across the Karakoram Pass in the far north.
Despite its remote location in the far north, Ofdor has faced determined attacks in days of old. However, the city has resisted every attack since the first erection of its mighty fortifications.

One lovely summer day, I headed out on a road north of Hinsdale Montana. It was probably the most remote route I have ever explored. EVER. I've never quite seen anything like it. It was amazing!
I don't know if you can tell...but there is absolutely nothing near this school. Middle of nowhere and nothing. Sitting alone in gorgeous prairie land--it's the Snake Creek School! And it looked as though it was still sometimes maintained, but definitely not used anymore. They left everything behind...desks, books, a piano, everything. Can you imagine going to school here? I think it would be lovely and so cozy in winter! And there is no outhouse! They have indoor plumbing--lucky kids who used to go here! I absolutely love snooping through abandoned schools, you can almost hear the teacher talking and the kids laughing and playing outside. And believe it or not I have found several schools with everything left behind, as if they just walked away at the end of the year. It's incredible, and makes me thankful to live where I do in such a remote place.

Taken from a local fjord tour from Bergen, Norway. The scenery encountered during this cruise was not quite as dramatic nor spectacular as that encountered during the Norway In A Nutshell excursion. However it was still nice.
