A special thanks to Geoff Gallice for inviting me along to this very special place in a remote corner of Manu NP.

This started out as a prototype for a BB8 droid, but I thought it was interesting enough to stand on its own.
It's a remote control, steerable, monowheel. It has some control issues (don't we all) but it's still pretty fun to play with.

Lagangarbh Cottage (lagan garve) sits in a very remote area just beneath the towering Buchaille Etive Mor in Glencoe, the awful weather here today didn't allow me to get many shots at all, but I wanted to shoot this cottage, I though that the weather despite being awful actually adds a lot to the dramatic scene here so I had to shoot this one from inside the car with the window down to protect the camera and offer some shelter as it was still pouring down outside, water on the lens from an outdoor position would have quite likely ruined the image.

From our tent flap at dawn, taken with a cheap film point-and-shoot. We had driven out to Joshua Tree for comet Hale–Bopp. A friend had a telescope with a motorized drive and a camera setup, and was trying to get some photographs. We sought out a dark, remote spot to set up for the night; not sure exactly where it was, but judging from the creosote bush it had to have been down in the Pinto Basin. We had great looks at the comet, but he never did get the 20-minute exposure he needed without clouds coming across and ruining the shot. When the sun came up, though, those clouds made for a great sunrise!

In a remote Northeastern Ontario Trapper's Lake & claim about 90 miles south of James Bay. Where the NE roads end.
Not too far to Ledmore Junction, this is a typical Scottish single track road. There are just a few houses once again it is a pretty remote spot. What you cannot deny is that sense of time and space.

I've bought this set for 75€. With an L-Motor, Battery/Receiver Box and Remote Control this seemed good value for money. Seemed.
This is a chinese as you can get, when you order a pint of lager and get a glass of horsepiss. Yes, it's yellow and has foam on top, but you'd be a wee bit disappointed - as I am.
1st they did not understand the special properties of a shay, which runs on two bogies to tackle tight radii. This has no bogies, it's a rigid rame loco. The front and back wheelsets don't even touch the rails when you put it on the R40 circle that comes with the kit.
2nd the electric part. It's on or off, like in the good old days with my 4,5V Lego trains, but at double speed. If you want to watch the peculiar power train with moving pistons and turning cogwheels - you can't. The loco is too fast, and the pistons are just a blur.
Without friction tyres it takes a few seconds of spinning wheels until the machine gets into motion.
3rd cable management.
This thingy comes with about 20-25cm (10") of four core cable, but it doesn't exist in the instruction booklet. You have to guess where it should go, and at the end you're left with one big loop. Yes, there's room in the driver's cab, but where do the fireman and the driver go? And they don't even make any arrempt to hide the plugs. Only one in my pictures because I didn't bother with the light, but there are two 4-core cables.
Recommendation? Definitely not. 2 of 5 stars.

In the woods near the Minnesota River a mile or so outside of Granite Falls the TC&W crosses the BNSF Marshall Sub at one of the lesser known rail crossings in the state.
Another image I took one early morning in beautiful Pearse valley Motueka on New Zealands South island. It was an incredibly atmospheric morning with cloud and deep fog scattered around the surrounding mountains. The house was full of character, though it was foreboding in this setting it was home to a lovely Kiwi/Alaskan couple I had the pleasure of staying with.

Snow Lake, or Lukpe Lawo, is a high-altitude glacial basin in the Karakoram mountain range, located 16,000 feet (4,877 m) above sea level, and is approximately 10 miles (16 km) wide. The basin lies at the head of the Biafo and Hispar glaciers, which spread down from the Hispar Pass in opposite directions, forming a 61 mile (100 km) river of ice that is among the world's longest continuous glacier systems outside of the polar regions.
Hispar Pass (or Hispar La) (el. 5,128 m./16,824 ft.) is a high-altitude, non-technical mountain pass in the Karakoram Range in Pakistan. At the pass, the Biafo Glacier (63 km. long) and Hispar Glacier (49 km long) meet to form the world's longest glacial traverse outside of the polar regions, 100 kilometers in length..
