This is a photograph from the second annual running of the Fr. Murphy Athletic Club 10KM Road Race and Fun Run which was held in Kildalkey, Trim, Co. Meath, Ireland on Easter Sunday March 27th 2016 at 11:30. This road race also features the Meath 10KM Road Race Championships which is open to entry from any athlete who is a full member of a Meath AAI club. The race starts and finishes in the village of Kildalkey and follows a right handed rural route out towards Rathcormick, Ballivor and Moyrath before returning on the same 2KM as the start which runners will easily remember as a long straight stretch of road. The route brings the runners through beautiful Meath Countryside on low-traffic country roads. The conditions were not very suitable for road running with a very stiff breeze and cold dry conditions. The 10KM version of this race replaced the traditional annual 5 Mile road race which was promoted by the Fr. Murphy athletic club and was held previous in Athboy on St. Patrick's Day, then Ballivor before a move to Kildalkey on Easter Sundays. There was approximately 150 participants in the race with a very large support from athletics clubs in Meath.

Let's get a bit technical: We use Creative Commons Licensing for these photographs

We use the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License for all our photographs here in this photograph set. What does this mean in reality?

The explaination is very simple.

Attribution- anyone using our photographs gives us an appropriate credit for it. This ensures that people aren't taking our photographs and passing them off as their own. This usually just mean putting a link to our photographs somewhere on your website, blog, or Facebook where other people can see it.

ShareAlike – anyone can use these photographs, and make changes if they like, or incorporate them into a bigger project, but they must make those changes available back to the community under the same terms.

Above all what Creative Commons aims to do is to encourage creative sharing. See some examples of Creative Commons photographs on Flickr: www.flickr.com/creativecommons/

I ran in the race - but my photograph doesn't appear here in your Flickr set! What gives?

As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:

     ►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera

     ►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set

     ►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone

     ►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!

You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. As alternatives we advise you to contact the race organisers to enquire if there were (1) other photographs taking photographs at the race event or if (2) there were professional commercial sports photographers taking photographs which might have some photographs of you available for purchase. You might find some links for further information above.

Don't like your photograph here?

That's OK! We understand!

If, for any reason, you are not happy or comfortable with your picture appearing here in this photoset on Flickr then please email us at petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com and we will remove it as soon as possible. We give careful consideration to each photograph before uploading.

I want to tell people about these great photographs!

this is me remembering.

remembering me

detached from the noise;

deemed to be unfair;

consumed by the silence;

me giving it all away.

This has come up three times in different conversations during the past few days - the act of running fingers along the underside of someone's forearm. Remembered sweetly from girlhood and slumber parties. And so on.

I've been thinking about the ways we give and receive touch, how we connect by touching, and how gendered the methods often are, even in childhood. Touch communicates so much. What are you saying?

www.southernlancasterhistory.org/robert-fulton-birthplace

(The) Robert Fulton Birthplace is administered by the Southern Lancaster County History Society (SLCHS).

The Southern Lancaster County History Society (SLCHS) celebrates local history in Southern Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. From pre-Colonial to the 20th Century. From Fulton Township on the Maryland border, north to Willow Street, west to Kirkwood and Drumore on the Susquehanna River, and East to Christiana. The SLCHS is located at the Robert Fulton birthplace.

Remembered chiefly for having built the steamboat Clermont, which in 1807 successfully made the trip up the Hudson River against winds and strong currents, the versatile Robert Fulton was also accomplished in other fields. It is not usually known that the great inventor was primarily an artist and that his miniature portraits are reputed to be among the finest produced in this country.

Robert Fulton was born in Little Britain Township, Lancaster County, on November 14, 1765, in a little stone house in the rolling hills of the Conowingo countryside, not far from the Maryland border. In later years, the section in which he was born became Fulton Township, named in honor of him. The house is located on U.S. Route 222, 6-1/2 miles south of Quarryville, Pennsylvania.

The Fulton family moved to the city of Lancaster about 1772. For nearly two centuries after the Fultons moved back to Lancaster, the house was owned and occupied by several generations of the Swift family. Here during the last half of the 19th century, a small commercial hamlet grew up along the line of the Peach Bottom Railway, later the Lancaster, Oxford and Southern Railroad, which ran through the Swift farm. Known as "Fulton House", this tiny cluster of buildings consisted of tobacco and grain warehouses, a store and post office, all operated by members of the Swift family.

In 1965 the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania acquired the site from the Swift family and the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission (PHMC) restored and furnished the house to represent its appearance during Fulton's lifetime (1765 - 1815). In addition, one area of the house contains exhibits chronicling the life and accomplishments of Robert Fulton. In 1966 the Robert Fulton Birthplace was listed on the National Register of Historic Places (#66000670). From 1982 to 2017, members of the Southern Lancaster County Historical Society, under a management agreement with the PHMC, had provided routine maintenance of the Birthplace and guided tours for the public. In exchange for these services, the Society maintained its archives, office and meeting place at the warehouse opposite the Fulton House at 1932 Robert Fulton Highway. In February 2017 the Deed to the birthplace property was transferred to the Historical Society, which is now fully responsible for the preservation and upkeep of the five buildings on the property as well as continuing to provide guided tours. The buildings include the Birthplace, the archives warehouse building, a granary, a small barn (previously a tobacco barn, now used as a gift shop and storage building) and a newer outbuilding (restrooms and garden shed). Included in the Deed are several restrictive covenants by the PHMC to ensure the continued care of the Birthplace buildings and property and the continued education of the public as to its historical significance.

My mother flew out to Hawai'i (where the majority of my extended family lives) when my grandfather was dying of cancer. I didn't hear about his death because I'd been traveling. When I got back, my mother called me from the party where his four children (and many, many other people) were celebrating his life. I make these comics, with my own words and my own images.
