Before the major road re-location project, this iconic New York Central signal bridge stood guard on the famous New York to Chicago Water Level Route. In this photo, we have an eastbound intermodal led by SD70 #2519 at Northwood, Ohio in June 2008. According to one website, the 2519 is 1 of 4 SD70's that are in storage and have not entered the rebuild program to wide-nose SD70ACC's.

I went to “regular” Brat Fest today to buy brats for the whole assembled family in town today. On the way in, I passed the “Wisconsin Remembers” wall. It highlights all of the Wisconsin military/coast guard servicemembers who made the ultimate sacrifice. Sobering, and fitting as this weekend centers around Memorial Day when we pause to remember those who gave their all.

On a recent hike I came across Pippy’s grave. I decided to add this photo of ersatz memorials to my collection. It is a small and humble but obviously a heartfelt tribute to someone’s dog. The black stone at left has a bone painted on it suggesting Pippy was canine. Farewell, Pippy- you were loved. Universal City, Texas.
A view across the South Downs National Park at dusk.
This view reminded me of A E Housman's poem
"Into my heart an air that kills
From yon far country blows:
What are those blue remembered hills,
What spires, what farms are those?
That is the land of lost content,
I see it shining plain,
The happy highways where I went
And cannot come again."
...that the most beautiful things in the world are the most useless; peacocks and lilies, for example.

starring NOT Dwayne the Rock Johnson, and full of family, bloody fun.
Man early 2010's was a dark place for cinema.
Also Julie Andrews was in that film, I mean why the **** would Mary Poppins join a movie about The Rock being a ****ing fairy!
This old house near Anarchist Summit east of Osoyoos probably saw many Thanksgivings over the years before it was abandoned. I've photographed it in many seasons, but it looked particularly appealing in the glowing autumn sunlight with yellow aspens behind. (Richard McGuire photo) (193)
Remembrance Sunday today and a colourful reminder from Port Sunlight on Merseyside. The background shows the village’s impressive war memorial, which remembers the 512 Lever Brothers employees who lost their lives fighting in the First World War, plus more casualties from WW2.

"Cofiwch Dryweryn" is a Welsh phrase meaning "Remember Tryweryn." It refers to the Welsh village of Capel Celyn, which was flooded in 1965 to create the Llyn Celyn reservoir to supply water to Liverpool. The phrase is now a powerful symbol of Welsh nationalism and a reminder of the cultural impact of the flooding.

People are adding flags to the sea of flags, remembering those who died of COVID-19 across the United States.
Each flag was a life lived, loved, laughed, cried, suffered, celebrated, remembered...
