The memorial stone commemorates the battle of Jena and Auerstedt on October 14th, 1806. It is located close to the Dornberg near Closewitz, Lützeroda and Krippendorf where Napoleon's Army defeated the Prussian-Saxon Army. Of course, it wasn't summer but autumn that day, and it was a misty morning. However, maybe the dramatic sky can reflect the bloody battle when tens of thousands of soldiers died.

My great-grandfather, Samuel Pickthorne, a seaman who died very young and far from home, is buried here, just beyond the trees, in Section 4 of the Hong Kong Colonial Cemetery.
We might never have known this, had my mother not - in her late 70's - discovered Internet and Genealogy, had she not happened upon the wonderful Johnsman Au, then Deputy Director of Audit in Hong Kong, who sweetly assisted her in her research, and who tragically died last fall.
As it was, we stood silent in this place, my husband and I, in March, respectful of chronology and connection and compassion...and two lives lost.

During the holiday season, nostalgic reminiscences usually include mounds of fluffy white snow.
All the best this year!

It's bonfire night here in the UK... which is an annual celbration known as
Guy Fawkes . I'm not able to get any shots tonight, but still wanted to enter into the spirit... so this is my effort. From the Disney fireworks display in the summer.

Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass under the trees on a summer's day, listening to the murmur of water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is by no means a waste of time.

Up to 40cm of new snow fell all over Switzerland yesterday. On normal conditions, it’s a 20 minute drive home, but the time tripled with yesterday’s snowfall. When this happens, i always long for those warm summer days, to give me a warm feeling inside. Hope you get the same feeling too ..
Well, i’ll be going to the Philippines (again) on December 22, so i’ll be having that warm feeling not only inside, but outside too.
EXPLORED! December 2, 2010 (Highest Rank #170). Again, a heartful thanks to everybody who commented, faved and most of all viewed this picture.

With just a week and a half left before the inaugural revenue runs of the NextGen Acela sets, OG Acela trainset 12 rockets past Edison Station beneath the PRR position lights on the afternoon of Sunday, August 17. Roughly three months later, a fire involving three of its cars would abruptly bring its career to an end. As of January 2026, this trainset, along with several others, now sits awaiting scrapping. It is crazy to think how long these trains were overlooked, only for a sudden rush to capture them once the end was in sight. It is a reminder to photograph what is here today, because you never know when it will be gone for good.

All images had to be in Jpeg, No Post Processing, just one image per category, we had to return to our groups meeting place, the Great Wakering Royal British Legion Club by 3.00 pm.
The images were downloaded to our club laptop and were stored for judging by three independent judges, the results will be declared at our Photography Group meeting Monday 11th April 2022.
Around 1958 this Vista 3D screen was a Weetabix promotion, you had to cut the voucher from the cereal box and send it off in the post.
The cards were then added to the subsequent cereal boxes, these cards and viewers can still be found on on the usual internet sites.
Needless to say this is a cherished family artefact, my Grandchildren still love to look at the images today.
I am delighted to say this was voted in 1st place in this category.
I would like to express my thanks to my Daughter Helen our Photography Group Secretary and Organiser for all her hard work time and effort in running a fabulous set of challenges.

Memorial Stupa at Choeung Ek. Between 1975 and 1978 about 17,000 men, women, children and infants who had been detained and tortured at S-21 were transported to the extermination camp of Choeung Ek. It is a peaceful place today, where visitors can learn of the horrors that unfolded here decades ago.
