In Defiance, Missouri, at the home of Daniel Boone, lies this old, relocated gristmill (animal-powered), complete with old fruitwood gears which still turn. The Mormon Island Relocation Cemetery was constructed in 1954 by the Army Corps of Engineers. It was created in order to used as a new site for several cemeteries that would be submerged by Folsom Lake, newly created by the construction of Folsom Dam on the American River. Remains from the Gold Rush mining camps of Mormon Island, Salmon Falls, Negro Hill, Condemned Bar, Carrollton Bar, McDowell’s Hill, Natural Dam and Doton’s Bar cemeteries, plus five individual graves were relocated to relocation cemetery after its construction. In 1996, remains from the Prairie City Cemetery were interred after being discovered during the construction of the Prairie City Road on-ramp to Highway 50.

Sunday, 23 February 2025: Helsinki – Kuusamo – Hossa National Park
Outbound Travel Day 5 / Upitrek Day 1
Breakfast in the Fast Lane cafeteria, then out onto the decks and into the sunshine for our arrival into Helsinki. Cruising past the islands and into the natural harbour, and then seeing Helsinki grow larger and larger as we approached the ferry terminal, was one of the highlights of the voyage out.
We caught the tram to the central train station, stashed our rucksacks and headed out for a bit of sightseeing and a leisurely lunch at the original Fazer Cafe.
From the station it was an easy train ride out to the lovely modern airport for the FinnAir flight up to Kuusamo (AY497 15.50 - 17.30).
We landed in the dark, and in snow.
The last leg of the journey out was the minibus transfer, along with most of our fellow snowshoers, to Hossa National Park where our guide for the next week, Petri, welcomed us into Jatkonsalmi cabin - our main base for our week snowshoeing "Off the trails".

I think the Liholiho LFL may have been blown over in all the wind we've been having; it's been moved across the sidewalk, slightly away from the bus stop and closer to the hedge.
