The Mormon Island Relocation Cemetery was constructed in 1954 by the Army Corps of Engineers. It was created in order to used as a new site for several cemeteries that would be submerged by Folsom Lake, newly created by the construction of Folsom Dam on the American River. Remains from the Gold Rush mining camps of Mormon Island, Salmon Falls, Negro Hill, Condemned Bar, Carrollton Bar, McDowell’s Hill, Natural Dam and Doton’s Bar cemeteries, plus five individual graves were relocated to relocation cemetery after its construction. In 1996, remains from the Prairie City Cemetery were interred after being discovered during the construction of the Prairie City Road on-ramp to Highway 50.
Glass designed by A.W.N. Pugin and made by Hardmans in 1851, originally for Campden House, later moved to the Catholic church in Ilmington and since relocated here following that church's recent closure.
Our Lady & St Michael's Catholic church in Shipston on Stour is a simple but attractive building with an unusual history, being built in 1847 to serve as the chapel of a workhouse. It was only acquired for Catholic worship in the 1970s after a long period of disuse and thus required extensive renovation with new roof, flooring and glazing.
The church consists mainly of a single chamber nave in brick with stone dressings with a very small chancel projecting at the east end. The west front is crowned by a bellcote and pierced by a small rosette window, with lancets forming the remainder of the fenestration throughout the church. Entry is via a projecting west porch.
Within all is light, bright and well restored, and adorned with furnishings largely brought from elsewhere that sit so well here that it is hard to recall it wasn't originally built for Catholic use. The glass in the east window is an abstract composition depicting Pentecost in rays of light colours by Tony Naylor installed in 1980 (by the same artist the more recent two small angels in the porch). Frustratingly this has since been partially obscured by the stone Victorian reredos brought from the redundant church in Ilmington, but it otherwise sits well here. There is Pugin-esque glass brought from elsewhere in some nave windows and a series of stations of the Cross recently brought over from the recently closed church in Avon Dassett.
The church is normally kept locked outside of Mass times, as I found on a previous visit, this time I was more fortunate to catch a midweek service here and had the opportunity for a look around before Mass began.

The work of constructing a new chapel Margao madel at a cost of around Rs 20 lakhs has been awarded to Race Constructions and is expected to be completed within six months. The new chapel will have 45 sq mts of built up area as against the existing 22 sq mts and will be relocated opposite the existing site on municipal land that has been filled up.
