I stitched each of my children a "Good Night' cross stitch when they were little, and they've had them on their nightstands for years, but this summer my son redid his room, and this was one of the things he put in the "remove-but-save" pile. I decided to save it for him by hanging it over my husband's nightstand!

This rather large shrub/tree has had to be uprooted from the spot where it has grown very happily for the last six years to make way for the impending building work. It looks a bit tatty as it's just gone through a very hard winter and hasn't started growing yet, but it's been a star performer in a garden that struggles with evergreens due to the clay/flooding situation. It used to be the first thing you saw when you came in so I'm sad to move it, but it seems to be settling in ok. It wasn't easy to move - mr aspidistra was a star digger but I had doubts that it would come out of the hole as it's really heavy. It was dark last night by the time it finally made it to its new home and we had to fill in the hole by torchlight. I just hope it survives.

Nov. 28 - Dec. 2, 2018. Volunteers from Roanoke Appalachian Trail Club, Natural Bridge Appalachian Trail Club, and Konnarock Trail Crew alumni rallied to complete an A.T. relocation on the southern slope of Sinking Creek Mountain in central VA. This 0.4-mile switchback was started in 2016, and features a great deal of technical rock work as it crosses rock fields to replace a steep, eroded section near the top of the ridge.

Heart Mountain Relocation Center hospital, boiler room and smokestack. And, yes, the smokestack leans. Due to deterioration of the masonry and consistent strong west winds, the smokestack is 18 inches out of alignment. If the smoke stack continues to deteriorate, it will eventually fall. Thus there are efforts to preserve the smokestack while maintaining its historical value.

Get tired of shots of Chendu Road Junction (where Yan'an Elevated Road and S-N Elevated Road meet) in purple or blue color? The city of Shanghai enjoys decorating itself very much. This picture captures Wuning Road Junction, where Shanghai-Nanjing Expressway ( now coded as G2, Shanghai-Beijing Expressway) meets Middle Ring Road. / 厌倦了蓝色或紫色的成都路立交的照片吗?上海非常喜欢打扮自己。此图展现的就是武宁路立交,沪宁高速公路(现称G2,京沪高速)与中环线在此交汇。

Regular readers of my diary know about my ongoing campaign to keep the Cane Toad, or Sapo (www.flickr.com/photos/pgurt2/6953325042/) , population in my yard and pool to a minimum.

Rather than toss them over the fence only to have them return in a day or two I've been practicing a catch and release method, keeping them overnight and taking them to the river in the morning.

I let them loose here in this small pond on a tributary of the river which is about 50 feet below. It doesn't completely solve the problem but it certainly limits their numbers on my property.

Now tell me this setting doesn't beat living by a crumby old backyard swimming pool?

I have a bunch of DVDs that I have to destroy. My shredder doesn't shred DVDs. Scratching the surface of the discs was a feasible way to render them unreadable without going through great pains to tear each one of them apart.

I don't think I'll have many other chances to take a similar picture of so many discs with these scratch patterns on them. (Of course, I could buy a box of DVDs and scratch them to make a picture like this, but why would I do that?)

I have always wanted Snopes to live in back, because he's clearly brother to Pauly and Holiday. He was part of the huge original colony we TNR'd in 2010 but he didn't stay in our yard. I really wish we had done this years ago.
