Nov.6, 2018: Visit to a very colorful Nubian Village. Mural type designs found on many buildings. Visited a local primary school and a large Nubian home with sand floors. The home we visited had Alligators as pets. Their were also taxidermied animals such as fox hanging from ceilings, to show they are successful hunters. Men and ladies from our group had their hands painted with local designs. Most ladies were dressed in full black, and their were many camels in the area.
The Nubians were an ethnic group coming from southern Egypt and northern Sudan, who during the course of history started a number of settlements along the Nile River. They were famous for their horse riding skills and their impressive marksmanship with bows and arrows. They where generally held in high regard as a strong cavalry force.
During the course of history, the Nubians typically blended and merged with the Egyptians during the Pharaonic age. In fact, a number of ancient pharaohs were of Nubian decent, and their legacy has inevitably lived on. These days, there are still several Nubian communities scattered around the country. Many of these small villages have become very popular with tourists nowadays.
On Elephantine Island, there are in fact two villages. The first Nubian village is Siou village and the second is called Koti village, both of which run across the center of the island. The two villages are connected by a footpath, and collectively, they are remains of three distinct settlements.
Many of the Nubians you’ll find living at either Nubian village were relocated here during the latter half of the twentieth century as construction of the High Dam in Aswan neared completion. The construction of the dam essentially meant that the Nubian communities had no option but to move.
Today, the Nubians of Elephantine Island inhabit the central portion.
Finally after 4 years my big ass stock battery died...It’s a huge mfarker...Size of a 4wd battery I reckon.
It weighs in at 16kg and the one I replaced it with is an Odyssey PC925 weighing in at 11.4kg.
I picked this battery for no apparent reason. It is a rip off in Australia at 370AU.
But I picked it to try an experiment. I wanted to stick it under my seat.
And get some more room in my engine bay without losing room in the boot with a battery box.
I had some timber which my car amp was attached to. I pulled the amp out because I have no more sub @_@
Originally I was going to cut a tight square in the wood to slide the battery into it.
But to my surprise it sits perfectly on top of the wood and still has about 15mm gap between the terminal and the chair...

From memory the timber is simple 16mm MDF which I cut to size. It sits between the 4 chair mounting posts.
A tied down strap was my safety to guarantee no movements at all.
I used L brackets to hold the board in place to two of the opposing chair mounting points.
I have a ground cable which I drilled into the chassis I also ran a 2nd cable to the chassis ground point.
Apart from that I used some Super Cheap battery terminals and re used my amp cable to run to the cars positive terminal.
I am yet to put a kill switch in for the battery and tidy up the engine bay terminals.

This rather large shrub/tree has had to be uprooted from the spot where it has grown very happily for the last six years to make way for the impending building work. It looks a bit tatty as it's just gone through a very hard winter and hasn't started growing yet, but it's been a star performer in a garden that struggles with evergreens due to the clay/flooding situation. It used to be the first thing you saw when you came in so I'm sad to move it, but it seems to be settling in ok. It wasn't easy to move - mr aspidistra was a star digger but I had doubts that it would come out of the hole as it's really heavy. It was dark last night by the time it finally made it to its new home and we had to fill in the hole by torchlight. I just hope it survives.
The central Partisan Hospital was founded in 1942, and worked until 1945 when it was relocated to Karlovac. The construction of the hospital was led by Jakov Kranjčević Brada, whose grave is located close to the hospital. As far as overhead facilities are concerned, the hospital had, among other things, the administration, the department for the wounded, the operating rooms, the staff building etc. The underground facilities are particularly interesting. They were used to hide the wounded during the attacks. During the existence of the hospital, more than 5000 wounded have passed through it. More than 1000 of them are resting in peace in the forests of Petrova gora, at the cemetery near the hospital itself. I have a bunch of DVDs that I have to destroy. My shredder doesn't shred DVDs. Scratching the surface of the discs was a feasible way to render them unreadable without going through great pains to tear each one of them apart.
I don't think I'll have many other chances to take a similar picture of so many discs with these scratch patterns on them. (Of course, I could buy a box of DVDs and scratch them to make a picture like this, but why would I do that?)
Nov. 28 - Dec. 2, 2018. Volunteers from Roanoke Appalachian Trail Club, Natural Bridge Appalachian Trail Club, and Konnarock Trail Crew alumni rallied to complete an A.T. relocation on the southern slope of Sinking Creek Mountain in central VA. This 0.4-mile switchback was started in 2016, and features a great deal of technical rock work as it crosses rock fields to replace a steep, eroded section near the top of the ridge.

"Relocation" is a piece composed of two photographs of the same size side by side. In both photos, I am seen wearing a white dress shirt and black jeans. In the left photo, I am smiling, wearing red lipstick and on the left sleeve of my shirt, there are red pieces of fabric and 5 pieces of red yarn sewn on. There is also red and crimson food dye dripping on the sleeve. My hands are in a prayer position in front of the center of my torso. In the right photo, the dress shirt is plain, but my hair is messy and my eyes are dark with makeup. My face is distressed and my arms are by my side. Both photos are edited to have low saturation and to appear very dark and moody. The photos are also slightly grainy and have high sharpness. The concept behind this piece is self-harm and how people use it to try to turn their emotional pain into physical pain, but it's not an effective method. The mood of this piece is very dark and gory as it shows one bleeding out. It also shows irony, as in the middle photo, I am seen smiling while I'm 'bleeding out.' This piece is a self-reflective piece as it discusses my personal experience and struggle with depression and self-harm and how I've grown to learn that it is not effective and just causes more harm than one started with. This is portrayed as I tell a story through these pieces: the first photo shows me, clean, but in extreme mental distress. The second photo shows me bleeding and feeling at ease and experiencing a break from feeling miserable. The last photo shows me bleeding and in distress, tying in the message that self-harm is not a suitable coping mechanism to get rid of mental distress and just causes more harm that the beginning.
June 27, 2017 - Docked in Fengdu, China. Our shore excursion this morning is to meet with families that were displaced by the flooding caused by the construction of the Three Gorges Dam. The family we were supposed to meet with wasn't home at our first stop. Their new house was built on the land right behind an existing family home. We visited the family in the original home and found out that their children moved to Xian. When the elderly couple can no longer take care of themselves their children must move back to take care of them in their home. They said they don't want to leave their home and move to the big city and live in a high-rise apartment block.
