Auto Relo Plus was contracted by my employer to move my car from Minneapolis to Chicago for a job transfer.

Comments:

They'll ruin your car and make you deal with the aggravation of getting it fixed. ARP moved my car as part of a corporate relocation. My car was on top of the car carrier, and the truck driver didn't make it under a bridge. My car had nearly $6,000 in damage. They also sat on the car for 4 days before they told me what had happened, and wouldn't tell me where it happened. Anyone reading this should know that ARP has substandard insurance. Their estimate of my vehicle's damage was $1600 vs. the nearly $6k that a reputable body shop AND my own insurance company estimated. The difference? They pay a labor rate of $26/hr. I can't even find a teenager to cut my grass for that low of an hourly rate. Then they tried to tell me that there are "approved" body shops that will do the work for this price - they were all chop shops. I finally was forced to submit a claim with my own insurance and have them subrogate against ARP's subpar insurance company to get the work done right. Not recommended.

Update: I went to trade in the vehicle Auto Relocation Plus damaged. The dealer pulled a vehicle history report, which stated that the car was involved in a rollover. Needless to say, there was a significant amount of diminished value to the vehicle (i.e. now worth much less). I also found it interesting (of not infuriating) that someone had reported the damage, but ARP couldn't/wouldn't/didn't ever give me a straight story regarding what had actually happened. I lost thousands of dollars based on their poor business practices. These people are shady - buyer beware dontuseautoreloplus.blogspot.com/

Badong's greatest asset is its location, on the banks of the Yangzi. It's a modern town with many new apartment blocks built to rehouse those who were displaced because of the rising river waters.

I always underestimate these things. This room should be packed by now. (Actually, I think it may look even worse than the last time I snapped this shot.

Around 1903 Dr. John Meinhardi built this drugstore in Whitehall, Michigan. The building was eventually moved from the street to the rear of a house and sat unused for decades. In 2011 it was moved to Lyons Park for restoration.

Nov. 28 - Dec. 2, 2018. Volunteers from Roanoke Appalachian Trail Club, Natural Bridge Appalachian Trail Club, and Konnarock Trail Crew alumni rallied to complete an A.T. relocation on the southern slope of Sinking Creek Mountain in central VA. This 0.4-mile switchback was started in 2016, and features a great deal of technical rock work as it crosses rock fields to replace a steep, eroded section near the top of the ridge.

Relocated onesies and replaced with Americana.

Onesie shoes, swim and sweaters still live here.

First pass and a solution with new valve covers and coals mounted above.

A bluejay attacked the oriole's nest, killing one baby and de-nesting the other before it could fly. We agonized over the decision: leave it on the ground and see if the parents would care for it or take it to a wildlife rehabilitation center. Due to the large number of dogs in the surrounding houses not to mention other predators, the kids voted for the rehab center so we packed the little sweetie in a box. His parents moved on the next day. I'm wondering if they'll risk nesting in my yard next year.

YACHIYO

Although Atelier Tekuto’s «Relocation» project has been underway since 2007, Yachiyo is the first «Re-location» building completed in Japan. The building is situated 100 meters from the ocean in Hayama, Kanagawa prefecture. This is used as a secondary residence and temporary shop.

PURPOSE

To make 100 year old materials last for another 100 years.

To fuse old and new material, juxtaposing the regional and cultural differences in a parallel arrangement.

We treat sunlight as a material. A material that can be captured only for an instant. It has the ability to fuse the juxtaposing elements or emphasize their differences. It exists both within and outside the human concept of time. Sunlight turns the interior space inside out. It highlights the dramatic structure as it permeates the building, accentuating the marriage between traditional and contemporary values. At night, custom handmade light fixtures let Yachiyo float into sight like a constellation fireflies.

Yachiyo - Japanese word meaning «a long time».

RELOCATION

Two abandoned warehouses built 100 and 120 years ago were chosen. In order to reinforce the structure, the two warehouses were wrapped with furring strips that also function as thin columns. Enhanced high-pressure wood wool cement boards which act as insulation were attached. This provided structural reinforcement, humidity control and thermal insulation all in one system

The wrapping material was reduced to a thickness of 95mm in order to provide more interior space. Also, the preexisting material was treated in order to prevent infestation and provide resistance against the salty environment. The first floor is composed of, eighty year old bricks made in Shanghai. The material of the previous first floor was then refinished and applied to the 2nd floor. In effect, disused materials were transported from distant locations and given new life.

Re-configuring Values

“Re-configuring Values” is a concept that will permeate the 21st Century. The following concepts are essential to this discussion:

Ecology

The conservation of the global environment - the most significant theme for this century – ought to be examined from a new standpoint, through new developments and re-configurations.

Cross-Culture

Adopting specific local and regional characteristics in order to achieve not just simple integration between different architectural styles and cultures, but to create culture on an entirely new dimension.

Reconsideration of Time

A re-examination of the past in order to predict the future. An increased awareness of time as a phenomenon that can preserve local and regional differences in material and character.

It is essential to achieve a greater understanding of when to preserve, when to eliminate or when to maintain.

Based on these three approaches, we are working to “re-configure values” by recycling, reducing and relocating Japan’s traditional Minka houses in order to give them new life.

The Minidoka War Relocation Center was in operation from 1942–45 and one of ten camps at which Japanese Americans, both citizens and resident "aliens," were interned during World War II. Under provisions of President Franklin D. Roosevelt's Executive Order 9066, all persons of Japanese ancestry were excluded from the West Coast of the United States. At its peak, Minidoka housed 9,397 Japanese Americans, predominantly from Oregon, Washington, and Alaska.

Moved the hives to the edge of a raised bed to make inspection easier. We pulled the blocks the first time we had to lift the upper full deep.

We moved from Kirriemuir AB to Hanna AB this past July. An excellent opportunity presented itself in Hanna for my wife to each at the school here and she took it. So I am no longer a denizen of the Neutral Hills.

Sidewalks... Those will take some getting used to again.

The schoolhouse appeared to have been moved to the site, rehabilitated and enlarged. The writing above the front entrance indicated the former schoolhouse was District No.62 and was in service from 1895 to 1947.

Asphalt landings for relocated buildings at James Workman Middle School

Late 16th century armorial glass relocated into the south westernmost window of the nave.

Upper Shuckburgh's church of St John the Baptist sits on high ground close to Shuckburgh Hall surrounded by beautiful parkland. It is a private estate church not normally accessible to the public and had thus been a mystery to me for years, but happily the owners of the Hall have recently opened both the house and the church up to the public on select open days during the summer months.

The church was heavily restored following Civil War damage and again in the Victorian period, so that little of the medieval fabric remains aside from the lower half of the tower, but the interior is a treasure trove of monuments, the most impressive being in the transept on the south side of the chancel, but many more fine tablets and brasses are mounted throughout the church. There is much rich Victorian decoration and stained glass by William Holland of Warwick (also responsible for much of the decoration inside the Hall) but much earlier armorial glass from the late 16th century can be seen in a south window of the nave.

This church was an absolute joy to explore and having long thought it was one I was unlikely to ever be able to gain access to I'm delighted to have experienced it at last and together with a visit to the hall was well worth the £10 entry.
