I photographed this beautiful, dark purple columbine (Aquilegia) in the forest today after a refreshing rain shower. The raindrops on the delicate petals give the flower a special shine and emphasize its natural elegance. A charming moment of peace and beauty in nature.

A refresh of the first of the BYD eBuses to finally arrive in Wellington some 5 months before the demise of trolleybus operation at the end of October 2017, a shot courtesy of. Alan Wickens.
As May 2017 drew to a close, a Chinese BYD (Build Your Dreams) 36-seater electric demonstrator bus arrived in Wellington from Auckland for evaluation. It was not in use when Alan visited Kilbirnie depot on 30th May and was awaiting some repair.

ELECTRIC BUSES TO BE TRIALED ON CAPITAL STREETS

The wheels on the bus still go round and round, but this time they will be fully powered by electricity.
NZ Bus will begin this week trialling electric buses, or eBuses, in Auckland and then in Wellington, as part of its strategy to transition to electric-powered public transport in New Zealand.
The trial is expected to last three months.
In parallel with the trial, NZ Bus in the process of retro-fitting Wrightspeed electric powertrains to its existing bus fleet at its workshop in Wellington.
NZ Bus chief executive Zane Fulljames said the eBus is significantly quieter to the current diesel and hybrid buses, but will look much the same.
"The trial will see if the buses can meet the challenges of New Zealand's unique topographical landscape, and the specific requirements of bus networks in Auckland and Wellington.
"As a business we are committed to leading the industry towards an electric-powered bus fleet, as was reflected in our announcement last year to invest $43 million in our existing fleet.
"Trialling eBus technology is about looking at options for the future in terms of our ongoing fleet replacement programme," Fulljames said.
"As a major transport operator, NZ Bus has the scale for investment of the kind these initiatives represent. We are committed to continuing to lead the industry and contribute to reducing New Zealand's carbon footprint through innovation."
The makers of the eBus, BYD Company, operate across six continents, 48 countries and regions, and 200 cities. They are the suppliers of the largest electric bus fleet in Europe and are in fleets across Canada, the United States, Chile, China, Singapore and Australia.
The BYD K9 (sometimes just referred to as the BYD ebus or BYD electric bus) is a battery electric bus manufactured by the Chinese automaker BYD, powered with its self-developed lithium iron phosphate battery, featuring the longest drive range of 250 km (155 miles) on one single charge under urban road conditions.
The first BYD battery electric bus was manufactured on 30 September 2010 in Changsha city of Hunan province. It followed models like F3DM, F6DM and e6. K9 has a 12-meter body length and 18-ton weight with one-step low-floor interior. It is reportedly priced at 2–3 million yuan (S$395,000 – S$592,600) It has been running and/or tested in China, India, Japan, Hong Kong, U.S., Colombia, Chile, Spain, Netherlands, Denmark, Aruba and Singapore.More than 200 K9s in service in Shenzhen had accumulated over 9,216,000 km (or 5,529,600 miles) by the end of August, 2012. - Wikipedia.
