Taken on a walk along the River Soar on a cold and frosty morning the river was very still and gave a lovely reflection of the tree - Leicestershire UK.

Finding myself at a loose end photographically (ie, no inspiration

forthcoming) outside the Scottish Parliament building, I resorted to a 'standby'. Maybe not the most creative of photography, but I have a soft spot for water reflections, and it's good to get it out of my system now and then. So I keep telling myself.

Whisky Bay at Wilsons Promontory National Park..

The promontory has been a National Park, to one degree or another, since 1898. Wilsons Promontory National Park, also known locally as "the Prom", contains the largest coastal wilderness area in Victoria. The site was closed to the public during World War II, as it was used as a commando training ground. The only settlement within Wilsons Promontory is Tidal River which lies 30 km south of the park boundary and is the focus for tourism and recreation. This park is managed by Parks Victoria..

Coastal features include expansive intertidal mudflats, sandy beaches and sheltered coves interrupted by prominent headlands and plunging granite cliffs in the south, backed by coastal dunes and swamps. The promontory is surrounded by a scatter of small granite islands which, collectively, form the Wilsons Promontory Islands Important Bird Area, identified as such by BirdLife International because of its importance for breeding seabirds..

Tidal River is the main river in Wilsons Promontory. It runs into Norman Bay and swells with the tide (hence the name). The river is a very interesting colour, a purple-yellow. This is due to the large number of tea trees in the area, which stain the water with tannin, giving it a tealike appearance. Darby River is the second major river, with extensive alluvial flats and meanders. It was the site of the original park entrance and accommodation area from 1909 to the Second World War.

more experiments with black backgrounds - this time I realised my Ipad was a glossy black mirror when turned off, so I took this photo making sure nothing but the figure and reflection was visible.

WOW: Dazzling

When I close my eyes and think about the word dazzling, dazzling would remind me of something shiny and sparkly. And so the first thing that came up in my mind was a beautiful young girl who was wearing a tiara under a streak of light from above dancing. This idea somehow became a difficulty as I didn't know how to dance, neither did Emma, or Mikayla and we don't have a stage to dance to, and we don't have the control over the drama stage. So instead of a girl, I decided to take a picture of a tiara that I borrowed from Emma's mom.

I first took the pictures on a bed that had a white bed sheet, but I thought it didn't really work because the tiara wasn't dazzling so I turned of the lights and took a lamp to create a shine. The light was really hard to catch, and the dazzling parts were hard to take from my camera. I then decided to take the picture on a small plant, but it looked weird and finally I decided to take the picture on a table. I couldn't catch the sparkles on the picture, and Emma thought of an idea of placing broken pieces of a disc to create more sparkling reflections. As a result, I have a dark background, and a white setting, which created a contrast. The tiara itself and the black background also created a contrast. Then the disc helped create rainbow colors of reflections and also created a reflection of the tiara. There were lots of reflections in this picture so I named this picture, "Reflections". Light was show from an angle above, and the most highlighted place of the subject was the middle part of the tiara. This picture was taken in a lower angle where the some of the pieces of the disc is blurred.

Another difficulty I had was creating the focus. My camera always focused on one part of the tiara, and I wanted to focus on the whole part. It took a lot of shots, from different angles and different angles of the light to create the dazzling sparkles, while you can still see the reflection and have the whole tiara in focus.

Although this photo does not have a story or something meaningful behind it, I really like how everything is like what I wanted it to be - the reflections, the dazzling colors, and the tiara.
