Amstel River Amsterdam

Another shot from our recent walk in Southlands. That’s a public golf course in the background.

I think my new favourite subjects are umbrellas :-). So here´s a combination with my old fav "stairs". Taken at my birthday. I took a day off and it was raining all the time :-(. But it was wonderful day!

..ach ja ich musste am Samstag doch noch fegen... Grüße an Andreas ;-).

Using this one for my own challenge, as well as the "52 Weeks in 2018" group.

I posted a similar panorama of the Ho'omaluhia Botanical Garden about 2 weeks ago and it was a good shot on my part but it wasn't the shot that I'd envisioned. My vision is to capture the red glow of the first light illuminating these iconic mountain ridges at sunrise and a mirror-like reflection, anything else less than that is a no go for me. A day ago I came back on another attempt and actually got to the pond about 30 min before sunrise and it was windless and I can see some stars in the sky. When the first light illuminated these ridges and I saw the 1-1 replicate reflection from the pond below, I knew this is the shot that I have always envisioned.

Happy weekend, everyone.

Flowers, trees, the wind, stars and refelctions and lots of colors.

I thought I would do something a little different this posting. I usually only post one or at most two shots from a scene that I have worked... and of course... they are usually the ones I think turned out the best or strike a chord with me.

I usually will work a scene as long as there is light as you never know what is coming next and you can never assume the light is always going to be better. In this case it happened to get better.

This shot is approximately twenty minutes before the shot I posted yesterday and was midway through what was quickly developing as some very nice golden light. If you look about a third of the way into the photo you can see the light that was developing being reflected in the water and was at its fullest in the photo from yesterdays posting. You can also see the rock that became the focal point of that shot and where in the water I was standing.

You may also notice that there are 18 shots between this shot and the one posted yesterday. Each one has it's own character and has positives in composition or lighting but all were lead ups to that shot which I found was the one I liked the most due to a good mix of both.

This hopefully serves as a good example of how quickly things can change... especially during the winter in the Canadian Rockies. A couple of other photographers declined to wait around and if it wasn't for the half hour worth of light most would have probably considered it not worthwhile.

For me... the added drama that came twenty minutes later... was well worth the wait. I know I'm preaching to the choir... but patience and being there are 95% of a great photo!

So close, so very very close.

This amazing sky appeared about 15 minutes after sunset. As the weather changes and it is going to rain you see skies like these. Of course you need clouds like these.
