Utata Iron Photographer 96, to include something sharp, something hinged and vivid colour. I really, really wanted to photograph the hinges on this old chest which I use as a sewing chest. Hinge design was very different then.

Still life of red thread with needle

I finally set aside the time to make new work and created two new collages on cradle frames yesterday. More detail photos on my blog.

28/365 My Tiny Planet.

This photo is the first of three I did for the contest by Diorama band. The idea of the contest was based on The Scale video concept (track featured on their latest album Even The Devil Doesn't Care).

I was inspired by "The Little Prince" character to emphasize that even if you are all alone on your tiny planet where you might have (or have not) all that you need, music and ideas brought to you by its means can make you strongly connected to the outer world.

This is an example of some of my own personal photography and also photoshop art. The image was originally made with two separate models, one of them was blonde. But in my head I envisioned the image after the fact as being a little more interesting by mirroring the black haired model using photoshop CS, all that remains of the blonde is her wrist. She really was a great model, its a shame im just showing her wrist! Perhaps when i have a chance I will dig up some more photos of the blonde who's wrist you see here. By the way... this image has never been published, if your looking for something like this to publish, just let me know. I will be happy to hear from you. Depending on your use of my work, sometimes i'm happy to share it just for a link back to my website: www.warrenleestudio.com

altering pages of Dante's "Divine Comedy"

Using a piece of cardboard as a cover, the cardboard from the box of the last laptop I purchased (a Mac Powerbook) I created the cover of this book. Tearing off one side of the cardboard revealed the corrugation which I used in a horizontal manner. I decorated the cover with a hand pulled silkscreened sticker I purchased from a vendor at the Felt Club in 2008. It features a skyline of Downtown Los Angeles with the City Hall on a turquoise background with a gold half tone moray pattern of a bike over it. A real, unique piece of art. The inside of the book is the outside of the box of the laptop I bought with photography of the keyboard of the laptop. The signatures are wrapped with an upcycled black patterned paper on one side that I received from a third party vendor. It really contrasts nicely with the outside of the book. The white paper is a high quality Hammermill bond paper that's really slick and a nice writing/drawing surface fo most pens. I binded the signatures to the cover using a red colored hemp thread and a unique bind. The book has 96 white pages or 192 surfaces to write or draw on. The book measures 4.5" W x 5.75" H. This book's size allows for it to be taken just about anywhere, fitting in small handbags or stuffed into a large pocket.

This book is still available for purchase on my Etsy page. Find it here: www.etsy.com/listing/36766442/blue-sticker-corrugated-car...

30/365 The Devil

The last of three I made for Diorama band contest based on their video The Scale. The track was featured on their latest album titled Even The Devil Doesn't Care.

And it's quite obvious why I picked out the red horned character, hah, isn't it?

And.. it's color chalks, guys. Never do this.

This is the journal quilt that I made in May. Each month this year I've been making a miniature quilt (this one is about 9" x 12").

Some new things I did with this quilt:

- French knots (finally learned how to do these!)

- Sewing with transparent thread on the fish and turtles

- Machine quilted the majority of the quilt - all the layers are machine-sewn along the edges. The fish, turtles, shells, and book are hand-sewn onto the quilt.

- Using bias tape - up until this point I've just cut the backing about an inch or so bigger than the front and wrapped it around. Used bias tape this month for a more finished edge.

Symbolism of the quilt:

- My trip to Texas - visited Sea Turtle, Inc. (a rescue and rehabilitation facility for sea turtles); collected some shells from the Gulf of Mexico (3 of the shells I found are hand-sewn onto the journal quilt); and explored South Padre Island (the largest barrier island in the world, of which the majority is undeveloped).

- Finished teaching a crafting for charity class to homeschoolers. We used bias tape for making pillowcase dresses for girls who are orphans in Africa.

- Mother's Day - did blue French knots on one fish to represent my mom (blue is her favorite color). Also chose 7 different fabrics for the water since I gave her 7 gifts (one to open daily from Mother's Day and for the next 6 days).

- Being a Mom - My daughters are adopted from China and there's a proverb that says: "An invisible red thread connects those who are destined to meet, regardless of time, place, or circumstance. The thread may stretch or tangle, but it will never break." I hand-stitched red lines onto the two turtles' backs.

Also chose one of the fabrics in the water that had purple and green (my two favorite colors); and made purple French knots on one of the fish.

- Visit from a friend - My friend, his wife, and their dog visited in the middle of May. We went to Koi Acres and saw hundreds of beautiful koi - from tiny ones to ones that were over 2 1/2 feet long. The two fish in the journal quilt represent the nice time we had together.

- Completion of Homeschooling for the Year - Finished homeschooling the girls for 1st and 3rd grade. The book on the beach in the quilt represents the many books we read and all the interesting information we learned during the past year.

A color copy of the quilt and a description of the symbolism behind the quilt was sent to two partners for a swap on Swap-Bot.

I used blue leather backed with card stock and lined with Asian wrapping paper. I used a piece of chipboard for the spine. The signature is made up of yellow bond paper. I also added faux headbands to give the book a more sophisticated look. I binded the signatures to the book using red colored hemp thread using a unique long stitch bind. The cover is a soft cover allowing it to be comfortably stuffed into pockets, purses and bags of all sorts making this perfect for the writer or artist on the go. The size of the book is 4.5" W x 5.75" H with 128 white pages or 256 white surfaces to write or draw on.

This beautiful book is still for sale on my Etsy page. Click here to see it: www.etsy.com/listing/37103144/blue-soft-cover-leatherasia...

Tearing off one side of the paper on a piece of cardboard, I revealed the corrugation underneath & cut out the corrugation to paste a photograph on the cover. I lined the book with a photocopied, letterpressed piece of art. The signature is made of several different colored papers including different colors of lined paper and security printed envelopes. The book is held closed with a red colored ribbon and bound with matching red hemp binding thread. Final size, 4.75" x 5.75"

Notice the thin red thread. I didn't see it with my eyes.

Going back to the golden age of DIY couture. Experimenting with stitches, materials and textures variety.

I'm being inspired by the amazing DIY styles that were passionately and almost secretely put together nearly ten years ago.

This very fascinating tank top is made with all upcycled fabric from my collection.

Like some other taylors and designers, I love fabrics and textiles. I collect them. I save the coolest fabric scraps from former projects I have made over time. Because they're beautiful, worthy and eco friendly!

I lobbied to be part of the second MSU MOR IT Leaders Program Cohort with help from my supervisor. Being accepted into the program showed the confidence others had in my capabilities and potential, and I’m committed to put in the time, work, and reflection to make the most of this experience.

I’m seeing how different points in my leadership journey have shaped my perceptions now toward management and leadership. In the past I’ve been sort of a reluctant leader. MOR, my cohort, and my coaches have empowered me to step up, get over myself, and just do it.

I’m learning to be true to some of my introverted tendencies, but to find the balance to challenge myself in different ways and grow. I’m seeing my strengths more clearly: driving results, staying positive, listening, strategic thinking, thoughtfulness, thoroughness. I’m learning to trust myself, to lighten up, and to be kinder, to remember to acknowledge and celebrate successes.

I’m learning to be intentional and decisive, while accepting I will make mistakes sometimes. I’m learning to see in new ways, from the balcony and through different perspectives. I’m re-learning the value of reflection, of being quiet, of thinking, of planning, and then doing. I’m re-learning the value of relationship building, of finding commonalities, of connecting people and ideas. I’ve been blessed to connect with new colleagues, collaborators, coaches, friends.
