adding comments with red thread as i read through "Aphorisms on love and hate" by Friedrich Nietzsche from Penguin Classics
Been meaning to do this shoot forever. I've always loved the concept of the red thread of fate. I guess Valentines was the perfect excuse to be this sappy.

According to an ancient Chinese legend, an invisible red thread connects those who are destined lovers, regardless of time, place, or circumstance. The thread may stretch or tangle, but it will never break.
I have wanted to take this picture for ever now and I am so happy I finally got to do it! This took forever to set up/take down, and we were covered in sweat and bug bites by the time we were done, but Cody really helped me so much with this, I couldn't have set it up without him. He's perfect, and that's why I made this picture. To remind him that through all my travels, our string may stretch for thousands and thousands of miles, but it will never break. For my red stringed soul mate. I love you.

I opened my cedar chest to see if I could find the doll quilt that my mother made for me when I was a child, but it's apparently buried pretty deep. So we're going with the quilt on the top, Prism Star, a variation of the broken star pattern. I love this, it's such lovely bright colors. This is most of 1/4 of the quilt, which is bound and quilted in red.
Bored in Albuquerque, NM, while on a business trip, I found this sewing kit in my hotel room...
A sewing needle is a long slender tool with a pointed tip. The first needles were made of bone or wood; modern ones are manufactured from high carbon steel wire, nickel- or gold plated for corrosion resistance. The highest quality embroidery needles are made of platinum. Traditionally, needles have been kept in needle books or needle cases which have become an object of adornment.
A needle for hand sewing has a hole, called the eye, at the non-pointed end to carry thread or cord through the fabric after the pointed end pierces it. Hand sewing needles have different names depending on their purpose.
Needle size is denoted by a number on the packet. The convention for sizing is that the length and thickness of a needle increases as the size number decreases. For example, a size 1 needle will be thicker and longer, while a size 10 will be shorter and finer.

[...] He is something of himself, from the most precious he has, he gives something of his life. This does not necessarily mean that he sacrifices his life for others - but that it gives him something of what is alive in him, he gives him something of his joy, his interest, his understanding of his knowledge, of its humor, of his sadness - of everything that is alive in him. By the other in this way gives something of his life, he enriches him, he increases the other the feeling of being alive, reinforcing the feeling of being alive in itself is.[...]

I love buttons for the variety of colours, textures, shapes and sizes that they come in. I decided to use some of my favorite buttons in an altered book. More about this altered book with further detail shots on my blog.

"I'm bleeding out
Said if the last thing that I do
Is to bring you down
I'll bleed out for you
So I bear my skin
And I count my sins
And I close my eyes
And I take it in
And I'm bleeding out
I'm bleeding out for you"
-Imagine Dragons
My emotions are bleeding out of me all the time. Sometimes they are constant sometimes not. If you really knew what I was thinking, then you would truly know how I feel about everything in this world. Songs inspire me to take photographs and make them. I used red thread to signify blood in my own way.
One of the three thread drawings that I did for the Threads of Meaning exhibition at the Chapel Gallery in Ormskirk.
All three of the pieces are based on ideas around codes and lost languages - I wanted them to look like some sort of writing that you couldn't quite decode.

As early as in 1973 Niki de Saint Phalle made a contribution to the city’s understanding of modern Art when the three Nanas, which were still very controversial at that time, were placed beside the river “Am Hohen Ufer”. Despite her international career, she had a special love of Hannover and bequeathed almost 400 works to the city, which made her an honorary citizen in 2000.
