Taken in Cardiff South Wales , UK

In August

Red-tailed Pennant, Brachymesia furcata, at San Luis Pass, UTC 071, Galveston Island, Texas, 27 Oct 2015.

These fast agile insects are so difficult to capture! they don't stay in one place for long, always on the move!

Photo taken with Sony NEX5 with 18-200mm Tamron lens

It was suggested to me this dragonfly may be hiding its face with its wing. I think my son may be right!

Libellula saturata, flame skimmer dragonfly

This dragonfly is a valued predator. I found it in a padi field. It provides natural ecology to the environment: it typically eat mosquitoes, and other small insects like flies, bees, ants and butterflies that could be destroying the crop.

A red dragonfly rests in the grass at Kings Park. The dragonflies were plentiful, but darting around in a frantic dance. A few minutes of waiting and more than a couple will land near you - for a few seconds at least.

While out on my lunch break walking around the AT&T ponds a red dragonfly stopped flying around long enough to pose for this photo.
