Red Dragonfly on a red flowering stalk of Croscomia "Lucifer" flower plant.

I am delightedly surprised to see this type and color of Dragonfly that I last saw half a world away, in tropical Bangladesh !!! Out of all places, in Newcastle, Washington (State) !!! At a Fruit & Produce & Nursery Stand, sitting on an also deep red blooming stalk of a Croscomia "Lucifer" flower plant !!! What a sight that was!!! At first I thought it was a lawn ornament, then it moved and flicked its wings! And I was like, "Oh my Gosh! IT IS REAL!" I ran back to my car to grab my camera and snapped a few pics. Here are a few. They are fun to watch.

While trying to get some shots of the dragonflies this lovely Red Dragonfly landed next to me so I reeled off a few shots I like the way the background has blurred on this one.

Neurothemis fluctuans, also known as Common Parasol, Sungai Perak.

This Flame Skimmer dragonfly frequents my backyard and loves to hang out on this hibiscus tree. Today I got some great pictures of him...definitely a male because of the black/brown stripe on the top edge of each wing. These pix don't do him justice...he is gorgeous up close.

This red dragonfly kept flying off and returning to the same perch again and again. Finally, turned around and seemed to be saying - What are you looking at?

I love to take close-ups, but must work within the capabilities of my equipment. Tomorrow I start a digital camera class at the local college. Watch for improvement. :)
