Madam Humaira Hashmi ( Director Operations NCHD Sindh ) provided detailed presentation about NCHD Programs i.e. UPE, Literacy, BBSYDP Projects and also about MALALA and OWN School initiatives. It also includes the detailed briefing of NCHD’s national and provincial achievements. The achievements and efforts were widely appreciated by the Participants.

 

Dr. Iqbal Muhammad Choudry Director HEJ Research Institute of Chemistry Karachi University highlighted the importance of education and appreciated the role of NCHD in bridging the gap between strategy formulation and strategy execution to enhance Literacy rate and Universal Primary Education (UPE) with a view to fulfilling Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). He further ensured his volunteer support in teachers’ training and development for the provision of intellectual volunteers for the training of teachers all across the board. He further said that socio-economic development of Brazil, South Korea and Malaysia is largely attributed to effective education systems. In addition to that he urged government to increase budget allocation for the education sector.

 

Anees Ur Rehman Chairman Fund Raising Committee Rotery Club explained the role of private sector for enhancement of education. He said that Rotery club is already working for improvements in education. He affirmed his support to NCHD and also ensured that they would also undertake filed visits in collaboration with NCHD aiming at enhancement of School initiatives.

 

Pervaiz Lodhie Member PHDF provided detailed information regarding background of PHDF its working style and the current role. He also explained the collaboration of PHDF with NCHD & Govt of Pakistan. He also conducted interactive session with the participants about the models of UPE and Literacy. He also discussed about the use of technology to improve the education and teacher’s training.

All DGMs shared the achievements of their respective districts in the UPE and Literacy and also provided feedback to further improve the execution of strategies at the district level.

Prevez Lodhi sb appreciated the work, efforts and achievement of NCHD and focused on proper showcasing of NCHD work to share with the national and international donor community to attract them to support education through NCHD. He suggested all DGMs of NCHD to share success story reports & documentaries of schools/ literacy centers on social groups.

He further shared that his meeting with Baligh ur Rehman (Minister for Professional Education and Technical Training) has been fixed in which he will discuss about NCHD.

It’s been a fun week. Almost got canned. Got a “talking” to twice in one day last week. Once from my new supervisor. The other from a REGIONAL Ops. Manager that was here helping while ours was out.

 

Apparently my internet usage is being monitored. They have also noticed my lack of motivation & un-happiness. I told them the truth. I am not motivated. I am not happy. I TRIED to explain my reasoning, but they did not “hear” me. They listened, but none of it seemed to make a difference to them. At least once a day I hear someone say to me, “What would we do without you!?” I guess the answer is, “You would wait AT LEAST four hours for a call back from the retards at the helpdesk, you would have to wait for someone else to figure out the answer to something you probably should have know to begin with. All in all, you’d be FUCKED!!”

 

How am I supposed to be motivated when I have HAD TO move my damn cubicle over ten times in two years??!! Only one person here comes close to having that many moves…I started before her btw, she gets to move up and onward. Not me. Otherwise I would be fine with it. I didn’t get my 30 cent raise this year. You want me to take initiative?? You want me to be happy that my previous “Supervisor” still managed to fuck me over months AFTER he left for my raise this year??? You want me to be motivated to do things when I have been given a boat load of shit to do and then you dwindle my responsibilities down to nothing?? You want me to be motivated to do OTHER’S jobs?? Isn’t that what I have a job title for??? It’s not OB!!! But that’s not being a “Team Player”…

 

In the past, I have been given so much to handle that I have been busy every second of the day, told that they are going to “re-adjust” the work load, which never happened…well I guess it did, they took me completely off that with no warning. No, “Hey you need to improve on this.” Or, “You’re not doing that up to our standards.” Just, “Did you hear??” Yeah I no longer have this one or two people to take care of…then suddenly the next day the revised list comes out & instead of the revision I was expecting, they revised it to not include me at all!!! “Oh, well we are moving you back to doing this. And by the way, your going to have to move your cube again.” FREGGIN SWEET!!! Glad I didn’t respond to all on that email saying, “My name isn’t Robert”. Give me something!! Why am I the only one you jack around like this??

 

Head this up with no feedback…Oh your going to be doing this from now on….No wait, now your doing this. Here’s barely anything to do. Motivates me SOOO much. I wonder what I will be doing next month??? Maybe it will be back to everything cause right now they have me doing nothing….then a few more months it will be right back to nothing. I used to love my job. Used to….

The mess in India is because most activist-leaders are sponsored by wealthy individuals, MNC-owners , Missionaries and super-corporates of India. eg The Anna and Chhote Anne are sponsored by Jindal and MNC-owners and Missionaries pay mediamen to give them coverage. MNC-owners pay ToI, India Today to give coverage Subramanian Swamy and MNC-owners also pay Supreme judges to give favorable judgment on Subramanian Swamy's PILs.

 

Due to funding and publicity, these activist leaders have become immensely popular.

 

Now to retain elite-support, these leaders refuse to support good laws. eg The Anna, The Chhote Anne, Subramanian Swamy etc all oppose wealth tax, Jury System, giving Mineral Royalties to citizens, Right to Recall Janlokpal, RTR PM, RTR Supreme Court judges etc. When activists ask them to support these good laws, the activist leaders start beating drum "unity", "timing" and ask middle layer to beat drums of leader worshiping.

 

IOW, all this leader worshiping is to crush the activists ' key question "why our leader ism opposing these good law-draft proposals".

I use my trike (and another recumbent bike) as my primary transport. The trike is my utility vehicle that I use for hauling groceries, 5 gallon water containers--and even a fridge (see photo). It has 192 speeds so it can haul any weight up any hill with ease. Once one gets use to biking/triking for their transportation needs, cars look silly for general transportation needs. A 15-mile radius around your house can be done easily and a 30-mile radius if time permits (time, more than energy, being the issue.) I have biked in all weather conditions, but most of the time extremes can be worked around.

All DGMs shared the achievements of their respective districts in the UPE and Literacy and also provided feedback to further improve the execution of strategies at the district level.

The intention of this course series seeks to provide an insight into classical Aristotelian logic in order to strengthen critical reasoning/rhetoric skills amongst the activist community. This course allowed for individuals to better represent themselves and the struggles they support in interviews, and will better allow for participants to hold-their-own in media interviews and in conversation amongst detractors from causes actively supported by Peace House/Affiliates.

 

Each course will be structured into a two-hour block containing two parts: theory and application. The first hour will contain teachings from varying works of antiquity, from Aristotle's Logic to the Socratic dialogues and orations from Cicero & other distinguished rhetoricians. From here, theoretical knowledge will be applied in addressing/critiquing potent arguments through the history of philosophy, from Descartes Cogito Ergo Sum to Immanuel Kant's metaphysical theory. The second one-hour block will deal with the application of technique acquired in the aforementioned block. Through consensus, we will decide which topic those in attendance would like to address, and will allow for a demonstration of informal logic and constructive criticism relative to the presentation of said argument (Note: if it is felt that there should be scheduled topics by course attendees, methodology for topic selection is subject to change).

 

-Presentation One: Introduction to Logic/Rhetoric: Presentation One will address one-third of Aristotle's triangle-of-rhetoric: Logos

 

1) Layman's Logic vs. Logic as a Math/theoretical science (If everyone has opinions and they're all equally valid, why does debate exist?) -This section will cover the distinction between logic and Logic, as well as an introduction to the syllogistic form/ overview of the structure of argument. The distinction between Formal and Informal Logic will be made.

 

2) Logic in Practice; a reading of Plato's Euthyphro.

 

-A group reading of Euthyphro will demonstrate how to address an opponent's argument on an opponent's terms. This will further explain the structure of argument and how many disputes remain unresolved due to axiomatic non-concessions.

Madam Humaira Hashmi ( Director Operations NCHD Sindh ) provided detailed presentation about NCHD Programs i.e. UPE, Literacy, BBSYDP Projects and also about MALALA and OWN School initiatives. It also includes the detailed briefing of NCHD’s national and provincial achievements. The achievements and efforts were widely appreciated by the Participants.

 

Dr. Iqbal Muhammad Choudry Director HEJ Research Institute of Chemistry Karachi University highlighted the importance of education and appreciated the role of NCHD in bridging the gap between strategy formulation and strategy execution to enhance Literacy rate and Universal Primary Education (UPE) with a view to fulfilling Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). He further ensured his volunteer support in teachers’ training and development for the provision of intellectual volunteers for the training of teachers all across the board. He further said that socio-economic development of Brazil, South Korea and Malaysia is largely attributed to effective education systems. In addition to that he urged government to increase budget allocation for the education sector.

 

Anees Ur Rehman Chairman Fund Raising Committee Rotery Club explained the role of private sector for enhancement of education. He said that Rotery club is already working for improvements in education. He affirmed his support to NCHD and also ensured that they would also undertake filed visits in collaboration with NCHD aiming at enhancement of School initiatives.

 

Pervaiz Lodhie Member PHDF provided detailed information regarding background of PHDF its working style and the current role. He also explained the collaboration of PHDF with NCHD & Govt of Pakistan. He also conducted interactive session with the participants about the models of UPE and Literacy. He also discussed about the use of technology to improve the education and teacher’s training.

All DGMs shared the achievements of their respective districts in the UPE and Literacy and also provided feedback to further improve the execution of strategies at the district level.

Prevez Lodhi sb appreciated the work, efforts and achievement of NCHD and focused on proper showcasing of NCHD work to share with the national and international donor community to attract them to support education through NCHD. He suggested all DGMs of NCHD to share success story reports & documentaries of schools/ literacy centers on social groups.

He further shared that his meeting with Baligh ur Rehman (Minister for Professional Education and Technical Training) has been fixed in which he will discuss about NCHD.

haitianhistory: Today’s word/concept is: HISTORIOGRAPHY So, what does this word mean in the context of historical research? Historiography usually refers to all the work on a given historical topic and the study of how historians have dealt with historical subject matters. According to the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy “In its most general sense, the term refers to the study of historians’ methods and practices. Moreover, “historiography becomes itself historical when we recognize that these frameworks of assumptions about historical knowledge and reasoning change over time. On this assumption, the history of historical thinking and writing is itself an interesting subject. How did historians of various periods in human history conduct their study and presentation of history?" (Source) Trent University defines historiography as “a summary of the historical writings on a particular topic … It identifies the major thinkers and arguments, and establishes connections between them. If there have been major changes in the way a particular topic has been approached over time, the historiography identifies them.” (Source) So, to put it plainly, historiography can be understood as the the body of historical writing on a topic and the history of how historians have approached a particular topic over time. ⇒ For example, if you encounter in your readings: “The Historiography on the Haitian Revolution is very large” It usually means → ”Lots of stuff have been written about the Haitian Revolution.” Historiography of course, does not only refer to the grouping of works on a topic, as we have seen already, it also focuses on the changes in historical methodology. So, historiography evolves over time? Why? Historians can rarely escape their own time. This is not to say that the historical discipline is entirely subjective, rather, this is to suggest that historians do not write in vacuums. Historiographical essays are thus important because they help us see how the methodology in studying a particular topic has changed over time. ⇒ For example, in the 1960s, most (but not all) historians favoured an approach that gave a significant importance to economy and were often interested in making Marxist and class-based analysis of History. This is not necessarily true today when many historians prefer an analysis which gives more space to culture (hence, you will often hear people refer to a "cultural" or "linguistic turn" in History). Now, this change in the way historians understand events rarely means they debate over the occurrence of those events (although, it does happen), — what it actually means is that historians find that some approaches highlight factors that better explain historical events than others. Historians’ major task is not simply to narrate events, their work also involves looking at the relationship between various instances (that is, their causal relationship) in explaining historical events. (To make this text more digestible, I will save you a discussion on the problems historians face with narration and causality, just remember that the two have an influence on historiography.) So, as just mentioned, historiography helps us see how the way in which historians write about History changes, in part, because they often take different approaches with time. ⇒ For example, for a long time, the dominent historiography on the causes of World War I suggested that the Great War was fought between European powers for colonies (i.e. the surproduction of goods forced European capitalist to pressure their own government to support their adventures in foreign lands in search of the new markets). Other historians, who do not necessarily completely reject the previous explanation, argue however that nationalism is better in articulating the drive to go to war. Historiography also suggest that we should not underestimate the importance of European alliance system before WWI (i.e. the “domino effect”). More importantly, most (but not all) historians who favoured the colonies and market explanation tended to be further towards the left (Marxist, Leninist and so on) in their analysis. (Notice “tended’ is in italics.) At any rate, historiography is a complex term but it is necessary to understand it in order to comprehend some of the work historians do (and to grasp the real nature of most of their disputes). To recapitulate, in most instances, historiography is: The body of work on a particular historical topic of interest (i.e. : the historiography on the Haitian Revolution, the 20th century historiography on the French Revolution, the historiography on Thomas Jefferson…) The “history of history” (the study how historians have dealt with particular topics, with a special importance given to the context in which their work was written. This usually emplies analyzing the approach(es) historians have favoured to write about History (i.e.: was this historian sensible to the Marxist turn in History, the Postmodern turn in History, the Cultural turn in History, the Subaltern and Postcolonial turn in History …?)) Warning: Before using a term, always make sure you are comfortable with its meaning and that it won’t be placed in your text simply as an ornament. If unsure, consult an appropriate dictionary or a Professor. I have to admit that this is a pretty dense read. This is also kind of what I’m talking about with the sort of ascending hierarchy of jargon…you have to understand the words used to explain the jargon, which requires a foundation of jargon already in place. This is why I try to show the process, rather than tell it. This is also a rather conservative explanation that tends to blunt the critical edge I think that historiography should have, as well as downplaying just how contentious and common debates and disagreements among historians are. This is why I think some people are confused when I do something like post a medieval artwork, and then cite writing from someone in the late 1700s who talks about that work. What I’m trying to do is show how our ideas about that medieval work have been affected by the person writing int he late 1700s. I’m not using “outdated sources”, I’m showing you how the centuries between middle ages and right now have affected our view of that work. After all, if each era’s historians add their own perspectives, doesn’t the racism, colonialism, and orientalism of their writing affect the work of those who build on those narratives? Doesn’t racism, colonialism, and orientalism right now affect the narratives of today’s historians? I think these things can be discussed by anyone, and understood by anyone, regardless of jargon and strict gatekeeping over exact definitions. The purpose of language is communication, and I think a lot can be communicated through images, audio, and video as well. Bottom line for me is really, trying to maintain the subjective/objective dichotomy in historiography is counterproductive.

Rapid Stratification

This demonstrates that multiple strata in sedimentary deposits do not need millions of years to form and can be formed rapidly. This is a natural example which confirms the sedimentation experiments done by Dr Guy Berthault (sedimentology.fr/) and calls into question the multi-million year dating of sedimentary rocks, and the dating of fossils by depth of burial or position in the strata. Strata lines/layers are clearly visible in this photo close-up.

Dr Berthault's experiments and other experiments (ianjuby.org/sedimentation/) and field studies of floods and volcanic action show that rather than being formed by gradual, slow deposition of sediment, with the strata or layers representing a timescale or even a particular, environmental epoch, particle segregation in moving water or airborne particles can form strata or layers very quickly. Such field studies and the experiments demonstrate that there is no reason to deduce that strata relate to different geological eras and a multi-million year timescale.

Obviously, the uniformitarian principle, which the geologic column is based on, can no longer be considered valid and the multi-million year dating of sedimentary rocks and fossils needs to be reassessed. Such rapid deposition of stratified sediments explains the enigma of polystrate fossils, i.e. large fossils that intersect several strata. Evolutionists confidently cite ages for rocks and fossils, but what most people don't realise is that no one actually knows the age of sedimentary rocks or the fossils found within them. So how are evolutionists so sure of the ages they so confidently quote? The astonishing thing is they aren't. Sedimentary rocks can't be directly dated by radiometric methods, and fossils can only be dated to a maximum of around 50,000 years with Carbon 14 dating.

The method evolutionists use is based entirely on assumptions. Which is ... unbelievably, that fossils are dated by the assumed age of rocks, and rocks are dated by the assumed age of fossils, that's right ... it is known as circular reasoning.
