I chanced upon this well stitched together avatar during my skull hunting endeavor at DRD. So many amazing creations. From the builds to those haunting the sim. And a hunt worth reanimating for!

“Is this what we’ve become?” asked Kongu. “Sacrificing Matoran lives, Rahi lives, just so we can quick-finish our mission? Hahli could be dead, for all we know, and all you care about –”

“Don’t, just… don’t,” said Matoro.

“If we fail at this, there won’t be any more Matoran, or Rahi, or Hahli… or any of us. None of us are happy about what’s been done,” he added, glancing at Maxilos.

“But I think we are going to have to do far worse before this is over.”

Once Fearful, then Burdened, now Legendary;

A mere droplet, shaped into a cold, jagged crystal, shone brightly as it plummeted toward its end –

A humble translator from Ko-koro, laden with the weight of both life and death, became willing to do whatever it took to save his universe:

Hiding secrets from friends, exploiting a mask of Reanimation, aligning with a villain;

Matoro proved that sometimes a hero isn’t defined by their strength, endurance, or even courage – but by what they’re willing to sacrifice.

An edgy look for Bionicle's quintessential hero might be surprising, but in my eyes Matoro was written almost an 'anti-hero', especially when he was separated from his team and forced to work with Makuta/Maxilos.

The sword was a nod to the Inika's light-up weapons, and I tried to emulate the vague skull-shape of Matoro Mahri's mask once I decided a simple one wouldn't be as effective.

The final addition to my Piraka and Toa Inika series - for now!

Had lots of fun, and heaps of nostalgia, reading through those ancient Bionicle texts then figuring out how I could make the most faithful revamp/tribute for each character.

Which one of these is your favourite?

Is this the price the Mask of Life asks to save the Great Spirit Mata Nui? the Toa of Ice asked himself.

Already, I’ve seen Matoran enslaved, Piraka driven mad, Brutaka betraying everything he ever believed in, all in the name of a cursed mask.

And now more death and destruction, this time through my actions. Where does it end?

And I… what have I become? As soon as I realized I wore a mask that let me reanimate the dead I should have cast it aside – I never should have used it.

“Shut up,” said Matoro. “I’m doing only what I have to do to save the life of Mata Nui – a life you put in jeopardy.”

Makuta laughed. “Think what you like, little Toa, and try to avoid admitting to yourself that you are one bad day, one moment of cruelty, one fit of rage away from being me.”

"Anything you are asked to do – even if it’s hard, or painful, or you hate having to do it – you get done. Look, Matoro, back on Voya Nui you once questioned your worth to the team because you aren’t a warrior. But being a Toa isn’t about who’s strongest or toughest or has the best mask power. It’s about spirit. And by that measure, you are a great Toa.”

“Please. This is the logical choice. I’m not a warrior, like you, Jaller, or you, Kongu – or an athlete, or an inventor, or even a Chronicler. I am just a translator for a Turaga, and not even that anymore. I won’t save the universe with my fists or my wits, but maybe I can do it this way.”

Inner sarcophagus and false lid of Butehamon (1939-1875 BC. Third Intermediate Period XXI Dynasty - Painted wood - lid 211 x 75 x 42 cm. - false lid 174 x 37 x 13 cm. Provenance: Deir el-Medina - Egyptian Museum, Turin, Italy

Butehamon’s set of coffins, probably found in the tomb of Nakhtmin (Theban Tomb 291), is already the typical one for the Third Intermediate Period: an outer coffin, an inner coffin, and a “false lid”. Nothing is known of the whereabouts of his mummy. The outer coffin shows stylistic features that are still typical for the Ramesside period (1292 – 1076 BC), but the growing space devoted to images is a feature of the new “yellow coffin” style. The image repertoire is expanded, combining typical New Kingdom elements with Third Intermediate Period Theological creations. Offering and mythological scenes are alternated in the decoration of the outer coffin. The lid shows a board collar with lotus flower, a pectoral dominated by the Khepri scarab (the morning sun), and the winged figure of Nut on the abdomen. The lower half of the top of the lid, instead, is subdivided into frames showing a number of offering scenes. An exceptional feature is the long hieratic text painted on the inside of both the lid and the mummy board. It contains the “Ritual of the Opening of the Mouth”, a very old religious text whose purpose was to reanimate the mummy. Recent scientific tests have shown that Butehamon, in spite of his high rank, used pieces of earlier coffins to assemble his outer coffin

A zombie is a creature that appears in folklore and popular culture typically as a reanimated corpse or a mindless human being. Stories of zombies originated in the Afro-Caribbean spiritual belief system of Vodou, which told of the people being controlled as laborers by a powerful sorcerer. Zombies became a popular device in modern horror fiction, largely because of the success of George A. Romero's 1968 film Night of the Living Dead.

I posted some tinted film photos before. This time its the Kono Moonstruck. I have no idea about the origins with this stuff. Sometimes its just fun to f@kk it up and try something new.

Good Monday Friends and Patrons!

From now on Mondays will be Work in Progress Day! 🔧

So, to get started...Currently brewing up some atmospheric Victorian/Steampunk specimen vats for the upcoming Vintage Faire in Second Life!

It’s always refreshing to switch genres.

While fantasy and bioluminescence are what CC is most known for, I love the challenge of working different styles

Here’s a look at the evolving forms — part alchemy lab, part arcane artifact.

These are the variants that will house eldritch horrors fitting of a Reanimator´s lab. But there will be variants with mushrooms, plants and crystals! No textures yet, these are just stand-in materials in Blender to get an idea of overall look.

Any suggestions on what else you would like to see inside them?

More to come soon!

Made just minutes after yesterday's "ice cave" photo, for this one I used a 105mm macro with 1.7x teleconverter, the camera tripod mounted and aimed straight down. The lake ice was thick enough to support my weight. We can see gaseous bubbles of various sizes, frozen in random, spectacular patterns, and even a few arthropods, species unknown, also frozen. Can they still be alive, to reanimate later? I don't know. Some frogs can survive winter by producing a sort of antifreeze that keeps them alive even though they stop breathing and their hearts stop beating. Nature is amazing.

This photo is one view of Joan Jonas’s “Reanimation" that seemed to have gotten the most press and is a recent acquisition of MoMA. When it was first presented Ms. Jonas was almost eighty.

n a period characterized by rainstorms, landslides and famine occurred the Miracle of the Wheat. 1753 was a year really fatal: 368 people died; well among them were 12 Priests, Sisters and Brothers of the Convent. Legend has it that ... swarms of locusts destroyed any agricultural product, the wells were practically dried up. Even fertile areas of Pomarico as Trincinaro, St. James and St. Lawrence for several years did not give the result of the hard work of the men. It was since 1680 that the country was suffering. There was a terrible famine to the wheat crop. In May 1753 it is said that an Apulian trader had come to the Colle Sisto. Not knowing the country, he went to Pomarico going down a cattle track with fruit trees and oaks on either side. He was well vested, respectful and good-hearted. During his trip he awoke the curiosity of the Pomaricans he met on the street. He stopped by the local monastery to rest. Then he went into the Piazza Nuova (now Piazza V. Veneto) and it was there that he announced to the community he had come to town to deliver grain. The news went around the neighborhoods and districts, and all rushed there by any means available.

The Pomaricans who arrived at Colle Sisto were astonished to see such an amount of wheat. There were at least 8 horse-drawn wagons filled with sacks of grain. People were hungry and there was no time to organize for the grain distribution so everyone tried to take what they could through shoving. In the general crush the people were fighting for a handful of grain. From that moment, in that humanly understandable act, was given the name "The Fight" so that the faithful, when they meet for the procession this year on 8 May evening (which that year became the feast day of the Patron Saint ) go to honor one of the most important miracles of San Michele Arcangelo in Pomarico.

After the Fight, subsided in part by gendarmes and the monks, there remained one towering load of grain which, together with the priests and the people, was escorted to the Mother Church in the churchyard where the bags were arranged in heaps and distributed to poor people who were not able to go or had not arrived in time. The Pomaricani after the fight and successful distribution of the remaining grain which happened in the churchyard of the Old Church met in the evening with the merchant. He told them that a few days before a good-looking gentleman was presented to him under the name of "Michael Pomarico" and he ordered the wheat be taken to a country town that was on a hill called Pomarico. Michele pledged his ring set with a diamond stone. The dealer, together with the authorities, went in Piazza V. Veneto, the new square of Pomarico, with its shops and its wineries, looking for some Michael who fit the description. When no-one did, at the suggestion of a villager, he decided to go to the mother church. The seller, looking at the statue of the Archangel Michael donated to the people of Pomarico by Francesco del Balzo, (now housed in the glass case at the entrance of the Mother Church) he recognized the face of the ring owner. Then everyone realized that the Holy finger was missing the ring with the diamond in it, donated by the magnificent Porfida Giannulli on May 3, 1713, which the statue of the saint is still wearing in the morning procession of 8 May.

The merchant and the population suddenly realized and shouted to the miracle. The seller, then, excited and stunned put the ring on the Saints finger waiving fees agreed with St. Michael the Archangel. There was general commotion culminating in joyful applause. The small town, where life flowed calm and sleepy, was reanimated. For a week the streets and the alleys were crossed by people coming and going, their faces showing the signs of a joy never experienced before. All spoke of the miracle and felt proud to witness an extraordinary event. Since that year, the Patron Saint became more and more honored.

Character Creation

Weather Wizard (Mark Mardon) is a supervillain appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics.

Weather Wizard made his first live-action appearance in the television specials Legends of the Superheroes (1979), played by Jeff Altman. The character later appeared in the television series The Flash, portrayed by Liam McIntyre. Additionally, his brother Clyde Mardon appeared in the 2014 pilot episode of The Flash, portrayed by Chad Rook.

Publication history

Created by John Broome and Carmine Infantino, the character made his first appearance in The Flash #110 (December 1959). He was significantly rebooted by Geoff Johns, and later by Brian Buccellato and Francis Manapul.

Origin

One of the sons of a South American drug empire, Marco Mardon was disinterested in helping his brother Claudio run the cartel that had been left to them. Instead, he traveled to Central City and got involved in petty crime there, eventually falling in with the Rogues. When his brother was murdered and the Rogues fell apart after their attempt to gain powers went awry, he unwillingly returned home to manage the drug empire. Discovering that his brother's widow was responsible for his death, he tried to kill himself and her, but succeeded only in killing his sister-in-law. Despondent, he agreed to join Glider's new Rogues.

Character Evolution

Silver Age

Mark Mardon was introduced in the Silver Age. In his early appearances he was described as having stumbled upon the weather wand, which was in the possession of his brother, who had died of a heart attack. This version of the character was American, and had no inherent metahuman abilities.

Modern Age

In the Modern Age, it was retconned that Mark had broken out of prison and gone to his brother's lab. When his brother tried to call the police, Mark killed him and stole his weather wand. Towards the end of the Modern Age it was also revealed that he had inherent metahuman abilities.

New 52

The New 52 introduced his current origin, and made him no longer responsible for his brother's death. It is unclear how he acquired the weather wand, and he did not have inherent metahuman abilities before having his DNA recoded.

Major Story Arcs

Underworld Unleashed

Mark and four other Rogues are approached by Abra Kadabra, who offers them the chance to become infamous villains. He sells his soul to Neron, but is double-crossed and apparently killed to facilitate Neron's arrival on Earth. His body becomes a powerful killing machine. He is ultimately restored when Neron is defeated.

Birth Right

Weather Wizard learns he has a son from a one night stand with Julie Jackam, and that the boy, Josh, is displaying weather controlling abilities. He spends time in conflict with Wally West, who believes that Josh is his son. He is defeated by West as he is unable to bring himself to hurt Josh.

Crossfire

Weather Wizard is invited by Blacksmith to join her new Rogues in taking over Central and Keystone Cities. He uses his powers to devastate the cities by setting fires throughout. When the team is defeated, he and the other original Rogues manage to escape with the assistance of Captain Cold.

Rogue War

During the Rogue War, Weather Wizard sides with the unreformed Rogues in their fight against the reformed Rogues. He fights Magenta but is prevented from killing her by the original Trickster. He escapes the fighting with the rest of the Rogues while Flash is distracted.

Full Throttle

Weather Wizard and the other Rogues are invited by Inertia to take part in a plot to freeze time and rob the frozen world. Inertia reveals to him that he actually has inherent metahuman abilities and breaks his wand, helping him break his mental blocks and use his powers without it. Inertia's machine actually steals the Flash's powers, and when Flash tries to regain his powers Weather Wizard is one of the Rogues who fire on him, accidentally killing him.

Salvation Run

Weather Wizard and the Rogues are the first villains who are transported to the prison planet Salvation. When other villains start arriving he sides with Team Lex. He fights against the Parademons when they attack, and escapes the planet through Lex Luthor's teleporter.

Final Crisis

Like the other Rogues, Weather Wizard rejects Libra's offer of membership Secret Society. When the Rogues are attacked by the knockoff New Rogues he easily kills his counterpart, Weather Witch and rescues Trickster from Mr Magic. He goes with the Rogues to seek revenge on Inertia. Confronting the speedster, they are met by Libra, who has taken Josh hostage in order to force the team to join with him. He claims he does not care whether the child lives or dies, but his resolve cannot be tested, as Inertia breaks the standoff by killing the child. Weather Wizard joins the team in executing Inertia.

Blackest Night

During the Blackest Night, Weather Wizard joins the other living Rogues in traveling to Iron Heights, where the dead Rogues are attacking. He fights the reanimated Top.

Gorilla Warfare

Weather Wizard joins the Rogues in an elaborate train heist that is interrupted by the sudden arrival of Gorilla Grodd's invasion force. He joins the team in fighting the gorillas and rescuing their hostages.

Forever Evil

Weather Wizard is invited along with the other Rogues to join the Crime Syndicate's new Secret Society, but like the Rogues he refuses. When they are attacked by Deathstorm and Power Ring he flees with a majority of the team, first to Metropolis, then to Gotham. There, he is sought by Poison Ivy, who believes he can help save her plants, and by Mr Freeze, who hopes to use his powers to create a frozen wasteland in Gotham. He is saved by the Rogues, but captured by the Royal Flush Gang.

He uses his powers to crash the van they are being transported in and angrily parts way with the other Rogues, who are planning to turn themselves in to save Glider. He returns sometime later during their fight with Johnny Quick and Atomica, saving Trickster and Mirror Master. During the fight with the Syndicate's forces he uses his powers to push their enemies into a huge mirror, which is then shattered.

Powers and Abilities

Weather Wizard possesses the ability to control and manipulate the weather as he wishes. He can generate and control any natural weather phenomenon, and is also capable of manipulating Earth's magnetic field. However, his powers are inextricably tied to his moods; that is, any weather he creates reflects back into his emotions. If he causes rain, he becomes depressed; creating a storm makes him angry and violent. This is due to having his DNA fused with his wand in the genome recoder.

Weapons and Equipment

Though he no longer requires it to manipulate the weather, he is frequently seen to carry his weather wand. Usually depicted as a glowing blue staff, it may be used by him to focus his powers, or may simply be comforting to carry. The staff can be used for any of the purposes that his inherent abilities now replicate.

Martian brain and skin tissue, which made Randy really smart, indestructible and irresistible to many of the galaxies female life forms. But they are a story for another time. Randy designed the Owls rotors with unique feather like

leading edges, which reduce the turbulence caused by the air

rushing over them, making the OWL very silent in flight.

Until next time and more exciting tales about Randy and JB

It took possession of an old Diver Suit, integrating with the metal. It began to work its alien self inside the suit reanimating and upgrading it beyond belief, even adapting powers after reading the history on the monument. The virus doesn’t speak so it’s intentions are unclear but it seems to be trying to integrate itself with the indestructible metal, Destrite.

Today's story and sketch "by me", I was sitting at my drawing table in the man cave enjoying a cup of coffee listening to a Doors CD, when the Intergalactic Emergency Flash Fax machine Spit out a fax, a flash fax is a message sent through space at many times, actually over ten times the speed of light, they are sent directly to the Man Cave, when the Galaxy Security Council is unable to locate Rescue Randy, today I received the message, and replied Randy was unavailable, he is currently on Mars with a Brazilian girl friend who is an expert using hard wax for hair removal. Unwanted body hair has been a problem for Rescue Randy the most interesting living tissue crash test dummy in the Cosmos, since his last reconstruction, following the crash into the Planet Z-D20 at four thousand miles an hour. The Doctors from UCSB reanimation, where a bit heavy with the crash testosterone, when they put Randy back together, which will have to be a story for another time. Today's emergency fax is concerning a group of Space Monkeys that escaped from the Planet Feridoo, in a space craft that was delivering Danish Moon Pies to the Feridoo maximum security Space Monkey enclosure, the fax included the on star tracking locator, which I followed to the Solvang Moon Pie Bakery. Home of the Monkeys favorite snack, the escapees believed to be munching their favorite Danish Cream Cheese Moon Pies, I hopefully will have an update on the Space Monkeys soon, until then taa ta the Rod Blog.
