Camp Zama’s 56th annual Bon Odori Festival was held on Aug. 1 with nearly 15,200 Japanese and American community members visiting the installation for the event. There was traditional “Bon” dancing, food, live music and entertainment, games and more. A fireworks display was held at the end of the evening to conclude the event. Read Aloud Family Day was a collaboration event with LibroMobile a bookstore in Downtown Santa Ana. We had 3 bilingual authors come out and read aloud to the families with children. After, the book reading they autograph the books. Our community read the 4th author book that was not able to make it. We provided over 200 books to the families that attended the event. There was also pan dulce and aguas frescas. The importance of this event is to encourage parents and caregivers to read aloud to their children by taking a book home.
Rep. Mark Tweedie (R-13) participated in Read Across America, March 9, and visited students at Hopewell Elementary School in Glastonbury.
