Probably I would be too diverted by the landscape to read this book sitting in front of the window.

These tiny birds have such huge personalities. I love watching them as they scurry back and forth, staying just at the water's edge, probing for the aquatic invertebrates revealed by the waves.

Although considered common, their numbers are in steep decline as humans take over more and more of the coastlines necessary for their survivial.

This adult in breeding plumage is migrating from the High Arctic tundra where they nest. Non-breeders do not migrate, remaining in their wintering grounds saving their energy for when it is their turn.

I read the challenge as ‘starts with zed’ not ‘contains zed’ so it limited my choices a little! Anyway this is a Zippo lighter mid ignition! I did try some shots not hand held, but preferred the movement in the shot over sharpness.

This pair of Gadwall were dabbling around in a local chalkstream where there is plenty of submerged vegetation. I was interested to read (Adrian Thomas - RSPB Guide to Birdsong) that they often feed on plant titbits brought to the surface by diving Coots, several of which they were following.
