It was a cold -10C morning with crisp, clear skies in Gander, perfect day for parachuting! 103 Sqn provides Search and Rescue services on the East Coast of Canada from their base at Gander Newfoundland. They operate CH-149 Cormorant helicopters, a variant of the Augusta-Westland AW101.

Earlier today, birds flying over the Kingston Marsh were different and larger usual. Griffon and Chinook RCAF helicopters made several passes as part of familiarization flights for RCAF cadet units as well as for the 1 Wing Headquarters Family Day. Here we look at these aircrafts with apprehension-free curiosity or even indifference - responses that unfortunately are in stark contrast with other parts of the world.
