Um er-Rasas (Arabic: أم الرّصاص) (Kastrom Mefa'a, Kastron Mefa'a) is an archeological site in Jordan which contains ruins from the Roman, Byzantine, and early Muslim civilizations. The majority of the site has not been excavated. Among the portions excavated so far include a military camp and several churches. For its unique blend of civilizations, Um er-Rasas was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2004.
in the shipping container housing Tabula Rasa, cool minimalistic light installation by Chan Wan Kyn (from Singapore's School Of The Arts), part of i light Marina Bay 2012.
Light from a LED bulb is coming through an horizontal slit, creating a nice mood with the dust floating in the container, adding texture to it.

after five years and nearly 2.500 uploads i close this site today respectively will let it abandoned.
since i restarted taking pictures in autumn 2006 i passed through many stations of developement. i tried detaching from entrenched viewing patterns, made experiments, aborted them, looked around and started anew. when now perusing this site it appears to me as a hotchpotch of attempts finding my own style. much too often i uploaded photographs that only hardly appeal to me. or such pictures i merely exhibited in order to please the audience. my efforts to tidy up the site hasn't been effectual. i will start anew in another place - that suits me better.
my thanks go to all who viewed, commented and faved my photographs during that years. you helped me learning and finding orientation. see you!

This picture was taken during the 2006/7 Hajj. These pilgrims are about to descend from their bus onto the Plain of Arafat on the most important day of the Hajj. They are dressed in two seamless pieces of white cloth as a symbol of equality. The pilgrims will spend the day in prayer and reflection and perform a rite known as the Waqfa (standing before God) reminding them of the Day of Judgment. The Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) is reported to have asked God to pardon the sins of pilgrims who "stood" at Arafat, and was granted his wish. Thus, the hopeful pilgrims leave this plain joyfully, feeling reborn without sin and intending to turn over a new leaf. For them, it is a new beginning... a clean slate... tabula rasa.
