“I am no blank slate for love to write on.
My heart has walls marred with cracks,
bloodstains, and bullet holes;
graffitied over by past lovers.”
― John Mark Green
Visit Tabula Rasa by Theda Tammas

Lagoa Rasa is one of 7 volcanic lakes found in the highlands on the Island Of Flores in the Azores. The lakes are the result of activity in one of 3 major volcanic centers. Lagoa Rasa (Shallow Lagoon) is located in the southern most volcanic center near Lagoa Funda (Deep Lagoon). The later lake sits at an elevation of 500 meters above sea level while Lagoa Rasa sits next to it but some 150 meters higher in elevation. Lagoa Raza formed in the last stage of volcanic activity in the Lagoa Funda Volcanic Center around 3254 years before present. Geologically Lagoa Raza is a maar. These geological features are low-relief, broad volcanic craters formed during shallow explosive eruptions. These explosions are usually caused by the heating and boiling of groundwater when magma invades the groundwater table. When both magma and water are involved, volcanologists refer to the explosions as Phreatomagmatic eruptions. The low cone around the crater is formed of ash and rock particles ejected during the explosions. The resultant rock is often referred to as a pyroclastic rock. The volcanic ash is called tuff and, here because of the size of the ash particles in this cone, it is referred to as lapilli tuff. As often happens with maars, the ones on Flores are often filled with lakes. A scoria cone (cinder cone) rises in the background.

The North America Nebula, NGC 7000, is an emission nebula in the constellation Cygnus. Above is the Pelican Nebula (enlarged on the 2nd image). Together the area of this nebula reaches 5 full moons across and can be seen with the unaided eye in a dark sky location.
This target was shot with using a high speed, wide field 400mm telescope coupled with a 26 Megapixel cooled camera from my light polluted backyard.

Believed to be the cosmic fire of creation by the Maya of Mesoamerica, M42 blazes brightly in the constellation Orion. Popularly called the Orion Nebula, this stellar nursery has been known to many different cultures throughout human history. The nebula is only 1,500 light-years away, making it the closest large star-forming region to Earth making it relatively bright. Because of its brightness and prominent location just below Orion’s belt, M42 can be spotted with the naked eye, while offering an excellent peek at stellar birth for those with telescopes. It is best observed during January. The Mayan culture’s likening of the Orion Nebula to a cosmic fire of creation is very apt. The nebula is an enormous cloud of dust and gas where vast numbers of new stars are being forged. Its bright, central region is the home of four massive, young stars that shape the nebula. The four hefty stars are called the Trapezium because they are arranged in a trapezoidal pattern. Ultraviolet light unleashed by these stars is carving a cavity in the nebula and disrupting the growth of hundreds of smaller stars.
Fantástico lugar, hay que andar con cuidado, con las aristas y las olas.

I will fight the system, break it down and redesign it
I don't want anything the way it's created by them
Where is my right to choose, if all the options are theirs?
We can be the system, it will turn and try to own us
We can have everything, if we will change into them
Now it's our time to choose, which of the options are theirs.
