On January 14, 2012, hundreds of people defied the rain and took to the streets of Beirut to protest against rape.

Protesters marched from Sanayeh to Riad El Solh square in Downtown Beirut, where security officers cordoned off the area to prevent them from reaching the Lebanese Parliament.

The march was organized by the Beirut-based feminist collective Nasawiya.

Secret reads: "I was raped."

tried to frame the yellow rape seed with the blue sky and green stalks, kept the house for scale

The story reads “I don't remember the details of what happened. I pick up clues from the seemingly random things in sex

that paralyze me with fear.”

My good friend Eric Raper and Family. Accompanying this picture was the following message:

Wishing you all a Merry Christmas, Happy New Year...and a bunch of really cool days in between. Days full of...uh, full of...meat...yeah, MEAT! Meat and, and...uh, milk. Yeah, milk. REAL milk. Not that nasty 2 percent stuff or, that worthless 1 percent garbage. And no cranberry sauce! Absolutely NO cranberry sauce! That stuff makes me wanna...

Sorry...got a little carried away.

For those keeping score - in the attached photo we have Kelly on the left (13), Aubrey on the right (16), Janet in the middle (literally and figuratively), and I have no idea who the old guy is. He's creeping me out a little.

Other up-to-date info:

+ Kelly has added acoustic guitar to her growing list of musical objects she can now play.

+ Aubrey has added a driver's license to her growing list of insurable objects (we're hoping "get a job" gets crossed off the list next)

+ Janet has added another year of putting up with me (she's looking to see if she renegotiate her list)

+ Eric has added a bunch of useless text to this email (see above)

A field of oilseed rape on the western edge of Market Harborough, Leicestershire, UK.

Oilseed rape is typically grown as a 'break crop', which allows fungal diseases and pests that would normally feed on the cereal crop to die out, thus improving the yield of the next year's cereal crop.

Oilseed rape will not normally be grown in the same field more than once every three years. It is lower yielding than most cereal crops, however does command a better price.

The UK is generally self sufficient in growing enough rape to cope with domestic demand, as of 2008 there was 598 hectares of land being used for rape, with 1,973,000 tonnes being produced.

rape at Combs Stowmarket Suffolk

I hope you remember

I hope you fill with dread when you think of me

I hope your heart gets heavier

I hope you regret every second

I hope rape isn't your specialty

Was I your first?

I hope so.

Painted when he was eighty-two, this is Picasso's last major statement about the horrors of war, perhaps inspired by the Cuban missile crisis. Here, Picasso transforms a familiar subject from the art of the past-the story of early Romans who, suffering a shortage of marriageable women, invited the neighboring Sabines to Rome and then carried off all their young women. Against a sunny background of blue sky and green fields, the overlapping forms of grotesquely distorted figures are compressed into the foreground space, the horses and soldiers trampling a woman and her child.

Mirela, 23 and Senada Rizvanovic, 17, two girls from Brcko who were rounded up with dozens of women, children and old people in June 1992 and placed on buses where after several days ended up in the town of Zabrde. The girls were put into a furniture shop and their mothers were led away. At night they were taken into empty homes in town and raped by Serbs. One of their friends disappeared. After one night they were put back on buses, reunited with their mothers, and taken to Kladanj where they were released as part of a prisoner exchange. They eventually ended up in a refugee center in Tuzla. ( A more complete account of their story is available).
