阿德莱德的油菜花

Prince Highway

Three months ago it was a field of yellow flowers. Now it appears it is about time to harvest the Rape Seed.

A trip out this morning with some fellow togs to the Cerne Valley to see the Rape Fields which are well out in flower.

The storms were chasing, but the morning was clear and bright, so it was good opportunity to try out some Infrared shots. The rapeseed fields in the foreground offered a good contrast against the far fields recently ploughed.

A CNDP soldier, one of Laurent Nkunda's rebels, in the Masisi village of Kirolwe. He had added a Stop Rape Power to Women and Girls badge to his beret. The badge is the emblem of the campaign UNICEF, V day and other organisations have started in Congo, and around the world to stop rapes in conflict areas.

Survivors of rape, supported by UNICEF and VDay, held a day of speeches telling their stories and calling for an end to violence against women. The courage of the women to tell their stories in front of three hundred people was palpable.

A rape alarm to protect university students on their way home in Japan. Japan is one of the safe-est places in the world for a woman to walk about, partly because they don't.

Alternatively it may be the case that Japan is in fact quite dangerous, but that many Japanese women who are molested do not report their molestation to the police.

Judging by personal testemony, sex offences such as the theft of underwear and molesting in the form of fondling are quite common.

"Honey, can you go grab the rape oil from the pantry?"

Saw this field, or rather the brilliant yellow of the rape, as I was riding along the A303 on the way back home. Just had to stop and take some photos.
