Built in the early 19th century Rakes Mill Pond was the brainchild of Jarman Rakes. Rakes Mill Pond is a dammed up pond and creates a swamp similar to what a beaver dam would do. The pond is located just past Mile Marker 163 going south on the Blue Ridge Parkway. You can pull out and park on site. Walk down to the dam and put your hand in the water. You will see a 15 foot water fall.

I've messed around with various methods of measuring fork rake. I'm really liking this one. It seems accurate and repeatable. The pics don't show it but I tried it on two different forks, and I measured them with the rake going to my right (as shown) as well as to my left. All the measurements were very close.
The fork shown was designed to have 66mm of rake, but it's 67.5. The other fork was supposed to be 45, but it's 43.
I'm disappointed that the errors are in opposite directions, because it means that I can't blame the calibration of my jig... What can I blame?
Here I've positioned a pair of .250" parallels next to the magnetic block and I'm using two squares to align the side of the block with the center line of the 1" bar. Once the magnetic block is in the right position I'll turn the magnet on and lock the block down to the iron table.

Ohio University groundskeeper Terry Glenn rakes the spoils of autumn, Nov. 9, 2005, near the Hudson Health Center, in Athens, OH. "This is my favorite time of the year," Glenn said wryly.
Entering the "beer garden" at The Rake in Borough Market, London, I noticed a large number of casks lining two of the walls. I had stepped straight into a real ale festival :-)
For the quarterly contest at The Dal House. This is my entry.
Living in Hawaii where it's green all year, I don't get to experience the pretty autumn colors. This also means that I don't have to rake leaves like poor Moe.
Here I am raking leaves with my brother in the backyard of our parents' house. I was home from college for the weekend & lending a hand with the yard work. (Actually, we were probably only raking up piles so we could jump in them!)
