A rainbow is a meteorological phenomenon that is caused by reflection, refraction and dispersion of light in water droplets resulting in a spectrum of light appearing in the sky. It takes the form of a multicoloured circular arc. Rainbows caused by sunlight always appear in the section of sky directly opposite the sun.

A rainbow appeared adding to the beauty of driving Yellowstone's Blacktail Deer Plateau road.
"This drive is a 6 mile one-way dirt road that takes you back into the woods and meadows of Blacktail Deer Plateau. Retreat from the paved road and experience the solitude of the Yellowstone wilderness. Driving on this road is slower going than taking the main road, slowing down the pace which will make it easier to spot wildlife and enjoy the views. Watch for the elk, bison, and bears that frequent the area. After many curves and bends, this road will begin to descend as you get closer to Tower Junction where it meets back up with the Grand Loop Road near Petrified Tree."

This morning at dawn i went for a hike across a boggy moor to see how the heather was coming on. It was windy and rainy and i did wonder if i aught to have picked a better day, but when the rainbow made an appearance i did momentarily forget about the squelching boots and sodden clothing.

Yesterday we had one of those rare winter days with puffy, cotton ball clouds, rain cells pushing through quickly, and sporadic rainbows.
At one point it hailed so hard it covered the ground. Later on it rained so violently it almost caused a small flash flood.
Luckily this view popped up late in the day.
Winter is beautiful and ever changing.

Huge full rainbow appeared late afternoon whilst walking down by Poole Harbour at Sandbanks. Only had 16mm lens so had to resort to panoramic mode and cope with traffic.... Anyway, nice record of a full rainbow over Bournemouth
Rainbow over Rangitoto island on a stormy winter afternoon at Takapuna beach, in the northern suburbs of Auckland, New Zealand. Today is my father's birthday, and tomorrow is my mother's, even though they were born 2 years apart, their birthdays are only one calendar day apart each year, so I dedicate these photos to them, and mom has a landmark 70th tomorrow, I love you both Happy Birthday.

I initially went out to More Mesa to shoot the stormy sky.
I was only about half way across when I noticed a few lightening strikes to the SE. As the sun settled to the horizon, things got quite intense. The lightening got closer and the thunder got louder. The cloudy sky got dark and moody. I had no idea things would develop so dramatically!
A long day of rain and thunderstorms ended with a beautiful rainbow. I only wish I'd had more time to get a better shot
