Had to share this joyous sight with you ! Yes, it's another rainbow (sorry!) but this time taken from my bedroom window this morning at 8.39 precisely ! If you look closely you can see it's actually a double rainbow. Soon the rain came and all my other pics were covered in raindrops and a bit blurry. The yellow thing sticking up on the left is a crane, by the way.

Processed in Topaz Impression 2, Soft Pastel at 50% opacity. Hope you like it - I was delighted to see it !

Have a lovely day everyone !

A rainbow is a meteorological phenomenon that is caused by reflection, refraction and dispersion of light in water droplets resulting in a spectrum of light appearing in the sky. It takes the form of a multicoloured circular arc. Rainbows caused by sunlight always appear in the section of sky directly opposite the sun.

Scheint die Sonne am Gewitter-Himmel, entsteht meist ein Regenbogen in diesen leuchtenden Farben (und zwar stets im "GegenLicht". und in der obengenannten Reihenfolge der

Farben.

If the sun shines in the thunderstorm-sky, usually a rainbow arises in these luminous colours (and always in the "backlight". and in the above order of Colors.

Secondary rainbows are caused by a double reflection of sunlight inside the raindrops, and are centred on the sun itself. The secondary rainbow is fainter than the primary because more light escapes from two reflections compared to one and because the rainbow itself is spread over a greater area of the sky. The dark area of unlit sky lying between the primary and secondary bows is called Alexander's band.

Yesterday we had one of those rare winter days with puffy, cotton ball clouds, rain cells pushing through quickly, and sporadic rainbows.

At one point it hailed so hard it covered the ground. Later on it rained so violently it almost caused a small flash flood.

Luckily this view popped up late in the day.

Winter is beautiful and ever changing.

On my evening here a shower developed, sun and rain nearly always gives a rainbow and it did. This is the only rainbow that I have captured and was quit pleased as it was almost a full one.

Sorry that the groin is partly cropped,as in my haste to get it in with the rainbow,i did not get the horizon level.

Rainbow at sunset, after a rain.

June is Missoula's rainiest month, and correspondingly has the highest probability for seeing an afternoon rainbow. Fortunately, I had my new wide-angle handy with polarizer already attached and I was able to capture and admire this evening's display.

Snapshot of a rainbow. Happened today after a short thunderstorm in the back of our house.

2nd shot of the unplanned encounter with the Rainbow, this shot was a much wider sweep than the first.

Rainbow over Rangitoto island on a stormy winter afternoon at Takapuna beach, in the northern suburbs of Auckland, New Zealand. Today is my father's birthday, and tomorrow is my mother's, even though they were born 2 years apart, their birthdays are only one calendar day apart each year, so I dedicate these photos to them, and mom has a landmark 70th tomorrow, I love you both Happy Birthday.

A long day of rain and thunderstorms ended with a beautiful rainbow. I only wish I'd had more time to get a better shot

Some of my Flickr friends may have noticed I've been pretty sporadic about posting and commenting the last 2 years. The reason is that I was pursing a second bachelor's degree, in nursing. I graduated in May and found out this last Thursday that I passed the boards. So it seems fitting that a rainbow signify the end of this quest. But to the right is a second rainbow forming, reminding me that there is still work to do. Nursing school was just the beginning, and I look forward to the next chapter.

Thanks for the views, comments and faves everyone!

On my recce for compositions for sunsets, arriving on the first top the Beacon I get caught in a shower. I wander off path to the cairn as the shower passes over and glance over my shoulder, quick a rainbow. Sack off, camera out, change to wide angle, check the settings, try to find a composition, oh and dial in the polariser, nothing to it.
