Sunset at Regensburg Main Station, Germany. I always take a camera with me when I'm travelling so I don't miss a good chance to take apicture. One day I was travelling from Regensburg back to Siegburg/Bonn and found this sunset was worth a shot....

A charming old railroad depot with a distinct red roof and white trim is surrounded by a well-maintained garden and lush green grass. A winding sidewalk leads up to the structure, with trees and bright blue sky in the background.

DM&E's daily 171 train – a Kansas City to St. Paul freight crests a little hill and passes the searchlight signals on the former Rock Island main line at the north siding switch Letts, IA. The train will shortly duck under US 61 and make a curve to the northeast to hug the Mississippi River at nearby Muscatine.
A line of clouds moving in from the north blotted out the morning sun as 171 moved through southeastern Iowa, en route for the next crew change at Nahant, an hour or so down the line.

Approaching Fremont NE at sunset just north of Papa Siding. The rear end of the train is near the location of the old FEVR/C&NW cowboy line diamond. There's a curve there where the train looked super as it came around in the evening sun. My goal is to get something there soon...
Nice and boring but I'm just happy to get it lit. The marine layer hung around over the hills all morning but down here in the middle of the delta the sun found many spots. An 0530 sign up had 1501 going from Schellville to Lombard lite then by me here around 0740 heading to Petaluma. The train is practically westbound for most of the trip, making this light angle here the only place to shoot 3/4 light in the morning.

Even when this was taken two years ago in the summer of '14, the number of YN2 SD40-2's was already dwindling down. Now, after two years, that number has only grown smaller. With the SD40-2 fleet on CSX being fodder for their SD40-3 rebuild program, these things are not long for the world. Surprisingly enough, CSX 8130 retains it's YN2 dress to this day and is one of two YN2 units left in the 8100 series.
On that hot summer afternoon, the conductor on this veteran beast has already kicked up his feet and has the natural AC on as they roll north towards a stop in the siding at Tontogany. They would wait for traffic out of the greater Toledo area to clear before proceeding to their destination of Stanley Yard, only about 15 or so miles from here.

Here's a "straight" version of the last photo I posted. No digital lith -- just a bit of toning in Photoshop.

The crew of the Louisville, New Albany & Corydon always carries a chainsaw on the walkway of LNAC CS9 #86, a re-engined ALCo S4, and the reason is clear. Approximately 6 miles north of its home base at the Lucas Oil plant in Corydon, IN, the train is approaching Corydon Junction at New Salisbury, where the shortline interchanges with Norfolk Southern.
