The riddling rack played a crucial role in the making of champagne for hundreds of years. Before corking, the bottles are stored upside down to allow unwanted sediment to collect in the neck.

I have a few of these old, well-worn test tube racks in my room all stacked on top of one another. I thought the pattern they made when viewed closely was interesting.
Being a bit short of space this home made drying rack allows me to dry up to 15 A4 prints in the space I could only dry two flat
I've had the idea to use these chains as the basis for rack railway for a long time now, but have only recently been able to put together a working model. This system will also work on curves; however the engine will need a pinion gear that can slide across the axle (I realised this too late; at which point I just wanted to be done with it).

Sorry...many things going on lately as some of you know. Thank you
for excusing my tardiness! :) xox
It is interesting that there are several common photography subjects that are usually most interesting when they are empty. The two that come immediately to mind are benches and bicycle racks.
For me, it is usually the shadow created by the rack that is of interest. Today, it was the repeated reflection of the sun.
Most times when I visit the zoo I try to take a shot of this bicycle rack. I love the design and it just fascinates me.

The mall entrance is straight ahead behind all of these racks lined up waiting to be sold.
This Sears was opened in the early 1960s and had a good 50 year run before it closed on March 23, 2014. Here are some pictures from just a a few days before the store closed (March 19th).
The Findlay Village Mall opened in 1962 with a JCPenney and Britt's discount store as anchors. Sears built a store in 1963. In the late 1980s the mall underwent a major renovation that involved adding a new wing with an Elder-Beerman store and reusing the old Britt's store as a Kmart. In 2003 the mall lost Kmart (now Best Buy, Dunham's, and T.J.Maxx)and Sears closed in March 2014. Currently many sections of the mall have a notable amount of vacancies.

Unused merchandize racks sit on the sidewalk
I photographed these well-worn and utilitarian merchandise racks on a walk down a Chinatown side street last summer. It almost appeared that they had been demoted from active use to side-street storage, and that perhaps they were just waiting to be dragged away, or possibly they were being kept around long enough that they could still be pressed into service if needed.
I like trying to read (or read into) the possible history of artifacts like these. For example, they give every indication of being "home-made" by folks who don't follow construction "rules," but who have probably built such things before. The colors are wild, between the fluorescent green and the yellow, red, and blue of graffiti. I love the angle on the lower front of the rack at the left — all I can figure is that it must have been designed to match the slope of the particular San Francisco street where it was once used.

Now THIS is a bike rack. A little roof to park your seat under in case it rains. Fantastic.
There are so many different bike racks here in Copenhagen, some with ways to cover the seat, but this is just cool.

There was a rack of lamb in the freezer, so I defrosted that overnight, seared the sides and fatty edge before roasting for half an hour. I boil potatoes before frying, make sweet chilli stir fry, and to complete it, garlic mushrooms mixed in with crisped trimmings of lamb from the rack.
Since I took a break from posting photos from my trip with my tee shirt photo, I thought I'd post some other "off topic" shots. I have my phone and Flickr synced, so all of my photos on my phone are automagically uploaded to Flickr - and set to private. Of the 12,668 photos I have on Flickr, 4,536 of them are private. Most of those aren't even worth looking at!
Anyway, here's a little rack I built for my F-style woodworking clamps. I have room for a few more, but really could use another 10 or so. I have four large parrel clamps that I store in a different location. I need more of those, too.
When I was in the military, stationed in Germany, there were only about four things a guy could do.
1] shoot pool
2] throw darts
3] drink all the German beer you could get your hands on
4] harass all the fine looking German girls who loved American Gi's.
Me, being of high moral integrity [cough], never really participated in 3] or 4]. I just couldn't get into it. You're suppose to be representing America, and here they were, getting drunk as fuck and trying to bang anything willing to give them 15 minutes. In regards to these guys, I avoided them like the plague. Safer that way in many aspects.
But I did like to shoot me some pool. Nothing more relaxing than knocking down a rack of balls, while drinking some ice-cold Bitburger, smoking some hash and listening to the Violent Femmes.
In an effort to give some of the guys something to do on Christmas Day other than miss their family and friends, the powers that be that ran the Army's 8th infantry division [8th ID] decided to have a division wide pool tournament, open to any member of the 8th ID. My only problem was is that the unit I was assigned to, the 39th trans squad, a small unit of only 6 whose principle duty was to police the 8th ID, writing moving violation tickets and generally giving them grief whenever they tried to go on maneuvers.
So it was a heavy brow that I received when I asked if I could shoot in their tournament. "8th ID only, get lost" was what they told me. So I called someone up their chain of command, told him that seeing as I was stuck on base and that I had nothing better to do than inspect all of their vehicles for correct registration numbers, in the snow, on Christmas Eve... that if i was given something to do, say, participate in a pool tournament, then I would be just too dog gone busy to do any vehicle registration inspections, Merry Christmas.
One guy called another, whom called another, and I was placed in the very last bracket...
60-something games of pool later, i had swept all those brackets and won the whole enchilada...
The racks are empty, the magical conveyances all at home, but ready to transport their owners on another journey tomorrow; and, for some, this may be the start of a wonderful adventure.
